UGO (http://www.ugo.com) has put up a new preview of Planetside. It's a bit lengthy, but it's a good read. Here's a sampling:
PlanetSide is unlike anything I've played before. The intense interaction and cooperation of hundreds and possibly thousands of players at once gets me all tingly inside. It's also great that you'll be able to hop into the game for 20 minutes and actually make a difference in the war! We've heard this before from other MMO's, but I think PlanetSide will actually come through with this.
You can find the rest of the preview here. (http://www.ugo.com/channels/games/features/planetside/)

Loved the thing with the rat....i died laughing.

Dont think he was actually cloaked, and if he was he didnt have a pulse rifle, maybe a beamer? A few moments of hacking... 30 seconds of hacking and 15 minutes of waiting more like it...

The way he described it, it was a tower--the reaver must have been there already. How else could you hack something and have the AA guns firing immediately thereafter? It also sounded like he was wielding the lasher.

There are some crazy screenshots accompanying the piece if you look for more screenshots. A line of sunderers inside a sanctuary and a few characters milling about, all named 'Sunderwhore' or something. Weird!

Whoa, those are some wacky screens. Looks like the devs were testing something. Maybe trying to see what would happen if a bunch of people spawned a bunch of vehicles and parked them next to each other hehe. They probably do wacky stuff like that relatively often in an attempt to find and squash any bugs that may arise.

You know, if I were making an MMO game I would set up a server where I would lead PR people around by the nose with some character hip to the lingo and have them participate in small set-piece skirmishes. I mean, that's what -I- would do.

PlanetSide takes place in space, far in the future, where three races battle for control over the universe.

It says there are "6 massive continents"

I thought there were 13 including the sanctuaries.

That's the long-term outcome of it. The Vanu tech provides unlimited power, obvious weapon applications as the Vanu Sovereignty have displayed, and most important, ressurection after death. Whichever power could beat the other three would be the undisputed ruler of the a fairly large area, possibly encompassing the universe.

Whoever is victorious if/when the wormhole reopens, or an alternate method to traverse space is discovered, would likely have near invincibility. an army that can rebuild itself via the Vanu technology? no more 'i shoot at you, you shoot at me till one of our armies is dead' tactics. lets say, for instance, that the new conglomerate wins. to the victor goes the spoils, and this war will be no different. imagine all the stregnths and none of the weaknesses of the factions rolled into one? any force that attemted to stop the 'New Vanu Republic' style forces would be crushed...

Is the Vanu technology restricted to Araxus? I was under the impression is was integral to the planet, and not some little "Vanu Kit" or something.

Refering to the matrix that you bind to, not the spawn tubes, obviously.

Yes. The storyline "excuse" is that the Vanu matrixing technology is in the core of the planet, and the human 'invaders' just hacked into the tech and use it as their own, without fully understanding it (or being able to reproduce it).
