You guys really need to put up some more recent and much better graphic quality ss's of all the armors. I was looking at some ss's, and the tr look stunningly awesome at high resolutions, such as this one:
http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=772
And when I looked some ss's in the same batch of ss's of some NC, they look much more bland with crappy textures like this:
http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=771
What's with that? Are they purposely trying to make the tr look cooler or something? Damn, i mean that tr screenshot makes them look fucking awesome. 'Scuse my french plz.
Anyone else agree? After looking at that pic, it really makes me want to join tr just to look at all my shiney team mates ^^. lol.

probably just different grafics settings. The NC who took that screenshot probably had a slow comp, so he used low grafics in order to play well.

If you guys haven't noticed, the screenshots are taken at unplayable graphics levels. The game is pretty, but it only gets that pretty when you have an ub3r gaming machine like I have. :p

Hehe if you can 3dmark03 over 4500, I'm sure you can play at the so called "unplayable" graphics levels.:)
4696:)
I MADE my machine for planetside... all these other games are just to test it.:)

Well, damn. I cant even RUN 3dmark '03.
Fotunatly, massive upgrades are on the way

Hamma has a geforce4 and we all know he is TR, so the TR shots are going to be high res. The NC player (as Trout stated) has a lower end card.

Actually thats not true, a geforce 4 ti 4600 could not run planetside at that resolution and expect playability in large battles. And hamma did not take that batch of tr ss's anyways, it shows hamma in a few of them. Those ss's were takin from a radeon 9700 pro or at the least a 9500 pro.

Cmon, Hamma, at the very least, can you tell us what card was being used in the comp that took these ss's?

I think those of us who are going to be upgrading fairly soon would like to know the difference in cards. Could you please give us this info? I doubt it would be breaking the NDA.

Hamma uses a Radeon 9700 pro in the shots.
The unclear textures and lower overall quality in some shots, is well because they havn't been using AA or FA whit some more details textures and higher settings.
As for the abudance of TR shots... well i'm pretty sure that all of the PS staff and most of the older guys from PSU play TR in the same outfit.
Bet there will be some arrangements made to get some VS and NC shots too soon :)
edit: Hamma dosn't take all the shots, so theres bound to be differences between the shots due to different comps.

..I thought his Radeon burned out, and he bought a gf4.
Still, the 9700 and Ti 4600 are nearly completely equal statistically Venoxile.
In fact the Geforce's core and memory clock, run about 200 mhz faster. The only thing the Radeon beats is the memory bus width, by 128-bit.
Now, I don't own a radeon 9700, but it is a superior, and sometimes vastly superior card to the ti4600.

That's not true... The Radeon 9700 Pro is much better then the Geforce 4 ti 4600, even the radeon 9500 pro with 128 mb is better then the geforce 4 ti 4600 with 128 mb. Go look at some benchmarks. The Radeon 9700 Pro handles much much better at the very highest resolutions.
Look at this test: http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20021202/radeon_9500-07.html
The cards all do pretty equal except the 9700 pro which does much better in the normal tests, but then in the very high resolutions tests the 9500 pro and the 9700 pro blow the ti 4600 out of the water.

vice versa, the GF4 burned out and he got a radeon.
Annyways, the radeon also has working AA/FA ;) and Dx9 support, what little that counts atm hehe

Dunno, I don't really care that much. I should be upgrading around may 10th.
My upgrades:
Radeon 9700 Pro at circuit city - 300$ (maybe lower if when the 9800 comes out the price drops), tax - 18$
Athlon XP 2200+ (1.8g) at a local business - 100$, tax = 6$ 256MB PC 2100 266 MHz DDR Memory - 20$, tax = 1.20$
Planetside - 50$
Total = $495.20
And i have about 600$ to spend on entertainment at the moment. The rest will go into monthly payments.

Ok heres the deal, those first 2 screens were taken on my 9700
The second 2 screens were taken by Flynt, I am not sure what he is running.
I have a 9700 Pro with ALL graphics turned up. Except for last week when PS reset the details on me and I didnt notice till i took the batch of screens.

Could you find out what flynt is running? lol, i might just join tr because it's the shiniest empire ^^.
edit: better yet, could you give us some ss's of some high level vanu/nc on a 9700 pro?

Flynt is running a radeon 8500, probably not at full detail

Ahh, well you've obviously seen nc and tr when playing (or i'd hope so...), do they look as detailed and menacing (and shiney ^^)?

Here is a sweet high quality Vanu Medium armor (http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=230)

That pic is incredibly old, no vanu have black on them anymore. They're completely covered with purple and teal. I don't even think that pic is that high quality.

He looks strangely high detail though, look at his lower chest it has a shine, as if he were even bump mapped, and I am aware its old.

I don't really mind how the vanu look that much, i might even have joined them if it weren't for their huge disadvantage in the ammo department. They don't use the same rounds as everyone else so it'll be impossible to take ammo from dead tr/nc because they use completely different ammo types, so if you run out of ammo, and no one in your squad died or the others in your squad took the dead vanu's ammo, you're going to be running around with a pistol. That's not the only reason, just a big one i can think of right now. Time to sleep, good night.

Then just drop your weapon and take the enemy's bullet weapon.... you can do that you know.

You do realize that no ammo that goes with empire specific weapons can be interchanged, right? This includes Common Pool to Empire weapons. The Jackhammer can not use Flechette Rifle ammo, Cycler can not use Punisher ammo, so on and so on. This means the Vanu does not have a disadvantage in that aspect. No empire can use another empires ammo unless it is for that type of gun. Of course you can take common pool ammo for that certain weapon and use it, but thats about it.

2003-04-06, 04:49 AM
ummm. Vanu's energy weapons recharge their ammo i thought.
Venoxile
2003-04-06, 11:46 AM
No they don't, that would be really unfair... But seriously, I thought all empires + common pool (besides vanu) used 9mm ai and ap rounds?
Ruthless
2003-04-06, 04:01 PM
heheheh i cant imagine bolt driver using 9mm
Venoxile
2003-04-06, 04:14 PM
I didn't say the bolt driver did, I believe that the assault rifles all use 9mm aka gauss, cycler, punisher, and the suppressor.

Most ammo is interchangable. The inventory is to small for them not to be. Id assume you get powercell, 9mm, 20 mm and shotgun shells.
And back onto the topic of video cards. Notice that the information comes directly from an Radeon source. Could that be just alittle bias? Just maybe? Yes the 9700 is better then the geforce 4 and FX, but notice FX isnt included in that test....wonder why?
