My download and upload times were average but my ping/latency score was 530ms. I play on my wifi network. Is there anything I can do to get better ping? I have comcast internet and use the default box they gave. Is there a better modem I should get?
I would retest. If you can post the scores from speedtest.net and pingtest.net here.
For ethernet cable, will getting like a 50 FT one solve your issue? I avoid wireless when possible, but I don't think that is the root cause of your high ping. I never have pings that high when playing on wireless previous. Either your router is bad or the cable line itself is.

I dont remember where I got 530 from both here are the two you asked for;
speedtest results: ping = 36ms, DL speed = 5.88mbps, UL speed = 5.62mbps
pingtest results: ping = 56ms, jitter = 38ms
will getting like a 50 FT one solve your issue?
I never thought of that, I think I will look into getting one, thanks!
That doesn't look so bad now. Anything north of 200 would be really bad IMO. At least in terms of play ability in online games.
Is PS2 or any other online game feeling you are having lag (not FPS) issues?
Personally I run a 100FT all the way into my room back home, though probably 75 would do it. Give it a shot, glad I could be of help too.

Yeah, I get lag a lot in PS2. For example, I sometimes get shot by what looks and sounds like a shotgun, but my teammates will say it was a carbine or lmg and I am lagging so the bullets all come at once. Also, today I was just standing around (not at a fight) and I saw a yellow tracer whiz past my face. A second later I got the headshot sound and fell down.
Those are just two examples of the lag I get. Another one I get (often) is when I get shot instantly from someone around a corner (because they see me before I see them and client side hit detection takes its coarse). By the time I turn the corner I get instagibbed lol.
Yup that sounds bad. If the ethernet wire doesn't fix it, call comcast as there maybe a problem with the line.
You buy the cable yet? If not get something like this 50 ft from amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-Networking-Cat5e-Patch-Cable/dp/B001W26TIW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1383666245&sr=8-2&keywords=50ft+ethernet+cable). If you go to Best Buy for the cable it will likely cost you an arm and a leg.

I was cleaning up some of my storage boxes today and found a 50ft ethernet cable that I used for my old desktop 5 years ago!
It is just barely long enough, but it is long enough. :)
The best news is my improved ping, I ran a test aaaaaaaaand....8ms!!! YAY!
That is perfect! Glad everything worked out lol.

Depending on how old that Comcast modem and/or how congested your vicinity is, your wireless quality could be affected by something as simple as a microwave turning on. (Max transmit power for any 802.11 device is 1 W, most microwaves are in the ~1000W range.)
Ethernet's definitely your best option for gaming though, 'cos in FPS games like planetside, lower latency almost always results in better framerates.
