All production of new content was put on hold for optimizations if you have not heard. Apparently, the first optimization patch was released this morning along with bug fixes. Pretty curious of checking it out myself.

What a lovely singing voice you have!

I think I just heard glass smashing somewhere.

But seriously, do you want it done rushed with bugs and balance issues or do you want it done right? It's coming and when it makes its appearance it SHOULD be mostly acceptable.

If it turns it's been done sloppy after all this time though...

Aye, we knew it was going to get delayed. Not just because the performance patches have taken priority but also because Hossin itself has to be redone as a result.
I eagerly await Hossin, but I want it done right not rushed.

There was news this morning

Currently the Indar and Esamir overhauls are Done, and the Amerish lattice/overhaul is being worked on. Once Amerish lattice/overhaul is completed, then they will put those resources onto Hossin.

We still have OMFG2 to get through next, sometime in the new year maybe?

Actually I'd prefer them to release some new content and just add a caveat its a bit buggy. Testing on live as it were.

They need to work on OMBG (Operation Make Better Game) next.

And then, Intercontinental lattice!

And by 2015, we finally have a meaningful game!

I've been playing Planetside 1 even up until last year (and would still be playing it if they gave it the HD overpass treatment).

I'll wait for a meaningful game over yearly COD's any day. :groovy:

Hahah yes, this! The next thing I'd like to see is Hossin with continental locking, a resource system implemented for bases and removal of battlezone boundaries to start making the game feel like there is a meaningful fight going on across a planet. This game needs Meta game and polish, not a new horrendous pink bumper for the harasser and some pumpkin hood ornaments...

Also pressing balance issues, such as looking at the ZOE max and AV turret.

Great job on the optimisations so far though SOE. New sounds were great playing last night, vehicle explosions made me say wow, but the fight I was in was a huge AV turret spamathon. Maybe it was just the particular base location in the Indar sea bed though.

You made this thread back in September

Did you really need to create another one when we all know the reason why Hossin is not out yet?

Heyheyhey, atleast we are in beta now.

The alpha stage of working with an unstable barebones engine has been completed and now the beta phase of implementing the actual game mechanics can start. Hooray!

Ok, i apologize, that was a tad mean spirited. Must have been DOUBLEXBAUGHs in-game names that drove me here. :p

Also hamma has a point, wasn't it clear back in september that hossin will still take untill after optimizations?
I will still take my time to wait untill the aforementioned basic game mechanics (namely proper resource/support system and intercontinental warfare) are being put into the game before i start throwing poo at smeds door.

Another way of looking at this is that the optimization issue started being acknowledged and addressed 8 months too late, and that in January we thought we'd have 2 new continents by June.

So sure in September it was clear what was promised in January was still going to be a ways off. I'm not sure that makes it any better.

I'm perfectly happy with them staying focused on the 2nd optimization patch, and then I'd much rather see a big quality of life patch where they put in 50+ no-brainer changes to make the game incredibly more enjoyable. Yeah. Operation Make Better Game sound much better to me.

Agreed. Especially since I recall something was said about PU2 / PU3 being related to making it easier to add new content to the game, kind of like the whole camo upgrade allowing for hacking of vehicles.

Well its officially been a full year since release and there was no meaningful landmass expansion. I can't name a single other MMO that didn't put out a landmass add on after the first year. Basically we are now getting the game we were supposed to be playing last year. I love the game, but its been a cluster fuck.

So there is something about this that I would like to point out:

What have we had this year in terms of continents? By my count we have had 3 different versions of Indar, soon to be 3 versions of Esamir, soon to be 2 versions of Amerish, with Hossin and Nexus Nearly complete.

So lets take out what was there to begin with, and just make it, continent work it was done this year: 2 versions of indar, soon to be 2 versions of Esamir, soon to be 1 of Amerish, Hossin and Nexus.

So lets reduce it further, and just count Revamps of continents, and the nexus as half.

That brings us up to 4: 6 half continents and 1 full continent. Look, we've seen Hossin, we know it's mostly done and got held back because of the Optimization. 4 continents in one year next year would double the size of the game.

What needs to happen, is that Optimization needs to be Finished, and they just need to put a pad lock on the files that would allow them to edit Indar/Esamir/Amerish anymore.

So if we count fixing their own fuck-ups as a positive the US government really is pretty damn good.

You are giving them way too much credit for what has been given vs what has been on the table.

I disagree.

Again, they totally redesigned the continents multiple times. At this point, if they would Stop Doing That... we could get new continents put out.

Amerish was done how it should have been done: Just get it done in one go. Unfortunately, there were multiple varations of Indar and Esamir that will be gone in the near future. This is time that you cannot say cannot be used next year on Oshur or Cyssor or Searhus.

I guess I"m bitter because I was in the crowd that was pointing out issues with the continent design and hex system a year and a half ago, so seeing all of this time go by and finally getting stuff fixed that never should have been in place in the first place is NOT a success or progress in my book.

Like if they we were to finally get a fix to spawn room placement and capture points and real indoor areas where there could be infantry fighting without getting spammed by vehicles... I'm going to celebrate, but i'm not going to be inclined to say 'wow soo great' i'm going to say 'about fucking time'.

I don't know... this whole process...

It's a bit like taking a knife, then go through a design process that actually turns it into a spoon. Then you're surprised when people object that they can't cut things particularly well with the new knife anymore. Well, the ones old enough to remember what knives were used to be able to do anyways.
Then little by little, you sharpen the edge of the spoon untill you can start to cut some things with it.

It's still a sharpened spoon.
If you're generous, you may call it a knife again.

But it sure as hell ain't much of progress.

Fair enough

I will say that as to "Getting camped by vehicles" I haven't really had this happen in... well... a while. Bases pretty well exclude vehicles from the fight, or as much as they should. When I do see a vehicle that someone was able to get into a nice high ground position it's often a magrider... and I hardly consider that the norm, it's just the ability of those tanks: effectively get anywhere with magburn and hovering.

Only continent I see it really being a problem is Esamir and Amerish. Esamir because the incredible edible wall system has made entrances easily camped (Because if we could get people up on the walls you could deflect attackers who were trying to do that, whereas now you have to run out into the open and hope for the best), and Amerish because the changes haven't gone into effect yet.

The base design is undeniably getting better.

I honestly don't see resolution though between people wanting PS1 style bases, and people who want PS2 style bases. I think both have a place, but 1 is not necessarily better than the other.
