Yes, until I got with the times and bought Mass Effect 3. A year late and a dollar short but it's just so damn fun!

I only tried it out for the first time this weekend. First time in months I've played, actually.
It was notably better performance-wise, which means I can actually play the game, but the mechanics that made me stop wanting to play the game remain, so I don't think it will keep me for very long.
Also some of the changes did kind of irk me. For example, not being able to see the labels of things until I'm practically on top of them was somewhat frustrating, especially in the air.

I'm playing a lot more now than I did before, simply because I'm able to play without my frames dropping me into a "fire and hope for the best" nightmare.

No, I haven't been able to consistently play. For what is already available, Planetside 2 is really behind the times in terms of content. The game is fun and a lot of people want to play and like it. But the majority of fights still devolve into camping spawn rooms and zergfights.
More than a year later, we're sitting at a point where we're still stuck to three maps with no real point to play other than to kill/retake the same spots over and over again. Meanwhile, other MMOs are adding more content either for free/as upgrades at a consistent schedule. Where as with PS2, it seems rather sporadic. And when you ask anyone who is part of the PS2 development when we can/should expect an actual meaningful content bump, everyone just shrugs their shoulders or gets a stupid as shit smarmy look on their face. Performance and game balancing is not a substitute for content, it's MMO upkeep.
tl;dr version
Planetside 2 is still a beta. Play other games.

I play every weekend. I think PS2 gets better and better.

I love playing planetside 2. Absolute best war game available in my opinion. Doesnt mean this game could be so much more.

O:MFG made me feel like I wasn't playing on a four year old PC anymore.

It made it run a lot smoother, but it doesn't have enough to hold my attention for an extended time yet. More continents, more content.

Happily the game appears to function correctly again, so I can once again justify playing it. I would call that a success in my case. PS2, so I have learned in my time, is not a game that can be played every spare moment without getting bored, but it is a genuinely fun game to play at times. So given the OMFG updates fixed the issue s that made the game unplayable, then I guess yeah, it's enough to keep me playing at my modest level.

Was a good update, but no. I'm done with the game until new gameplay changes are implemented. Done everything there is to do dozens of times allready on two characters. I know the maps better than I know my own family soon.
More continents desperately needed and some intercontinental warfare, please. I'm so tired of just unlocking stuff I barely use.

I have to say since GU2 I can finally play the game smoothly in big battles. But I don't really have the urge to go back since there haven't been alot (if any) new gameplay changes the past few months. Hopefully now the game is much better optimized they are going to start working on those. I really want some new maps. I hope they release Hossin soon since it is largly done.

The people for whom the optimization has helped to make the game playable, it's given them their second wind.
But for people like me who have never really had problems with framerates and the like we are done. But the fact remains that I really want to play, in fact seeing some outfit members going past my rank really pisses me off when I get to the login screen i find i just don't have it in me to get in again.
NEED MOAR CONTENT !! Not just a new continent, something give us something.

I haven't regular played it in about 6 months. I've played in some op nights but outside of that i'll hope on once in a while. As others said there is no reason to play as there still is no meta. Congrats you captured base XYZ for the 100th time tonight.

Quite right, but the way I see is that even so there are two valid reasons to casually play:
1. Organized group activities/challenges with your outfit are fun for the interaction/laughs.
2. Blowing stuff and otherwise killing some time, sometimes.
Bonus: To record footage of people doing derp and posting hilarious videos about it online.
The game lacks depth and purpose for sure, but there's still fun to be had.
