View Full Version : score per minute
Hi,
I was looking and compairing my score per minute with some other players and it seemed like I had a decent score while my K/D was more mediocre.
However something came to my mind, I got the 50% alpha squad boost, and I wonder if that impacts positive on my score? checked while I was playing and it seems to me that I get the same points in score as what I get in xp for everything. Also "achievements" count to my score.
Have I overlooked something when I was checking my score, or is the score actually influenced by boosts and medals/achievements etc?
In case of yes, then how is this a fair way of measuring score? :S
shouldnt there be a standardised score system that gives me eg. 100p for a kill even though I get 150xp for the kill with my boost!

That's correct. Score is indeed influenced my memberships and boosts therefore it is a rather unreliable indicator towards player skill. K/D is a little more helpful but again not everything that is rather important to the success of a zerg or organized push will garner you a high K/D.
People have been asking for a change to the scoreboard for awhile but it's not something too important given the plethora of issues we have to work though at any rate. Hope that answers your question for you.
Ok then I know for sure, however I fell sligthly cheated. The score system was praised to be the cure againts K/D ratio and I felt proud to be having a decent score because I play mostly support. However now 50% of my score is just air I guess, and anyone elses score may be 0-150% boosted :S so no real comparison can be made.
But thanks for the answer!

Technically it can be more. With the 25-50% resource boost players can use much more C4, vehicles, or utility items further skewing their KDR and SPM. Try not to fixate on it too much.

I wish they'd just remove the k/d ratio or at least let you switch it off, some people might like playing a sniper or spend their life in a lib so they can brag about their k/d ratio but I prefer to be useful which often means charging headlong into huge groups drawing fire and doing what damage I can so the people behind me can get the kills (ah the life of a heavy) sadly this means my k/d isn't that great and its constantly right there mocking you whenever you hit tab or go on your profile....

I think a better option would to be to have SPM be time-adjusted, "SPM over last month" or something along those lines. That actually takes into account how effective a player is at the moment, rather than including the time they were BR<20 and didn't have a clue.
To be honest, SPM isn't an effective stat anyway. It doesn't cover a lot of support roles that naturally have a very low SPM. Over the last year a specialist Galaxy Pilot will have a a rock-bottom SPM compared with that of a front-line HA or an ESF pilot for example.

Very true. Since I let my membership lapse, I would otherwise often log off with a minimum of resources, so I spend about 10-15 minutes continent hopping at the end of my play sessions to fill up my resource stores. And while I do that I see my score per minute diminish significantly.

I think spm is a really poor metric to measure effectiveness, I spend half my time staring at the map as an SL or PL, or sitting defending a point waiting for the enemy to hot drop it or baby sitting a sunder to make sure it isn't C4'd, the list of support actions that entail waiting and not adding to your score is endless. High spm just tells me that someone is a really effective farmer, jumping from one hot zone to next, often solo, often Ignoring the objective. Yes there will be exceptions but they are a tiny minority of the player-base.

Removing K/D from the game does nothing. It doesn't take genius to take someone's kills and divide them by their deaths. If it just bugs you personally that it's there in front of you then the problem is you. If your going to play the way your going to play then you have to learn to ignore it.
Try not to fixate on it too much.
Well its har not to, I wanted to be the very best, like no one ever was, to heal guys was my real test. To ress them was my cause. Now I dont know what to compete with
Well no I guess it's not the end of the world, they will fix something sooner or later, especially for MLG rankings. I still have faith in this game ^^
(No intention of mocking quoted post, Its exam period and my sense of humor is a bit twisted atm)
