/begin of rant
If you download game from Steam 12 GB be ready to download 8GB patches after that. And patch size is increasing every week.
I delete game after every weekend session and now it is getting really annoying to download 20 GB when it could have been only 12GB.
Plus in Steam you could pause download or limit download speed in order to keep my home internet connection for other family members.
But 8GB patches are downloaded at full available speed using whole internet bandwidth. And you cannot even pause it!!! I hate it! :)
/end of rant
SOE, please patch the game in Steam so that I should NOT download 8GB patches all the time!!!

Fighting with game addiction. If I don't uninstall I cannot stop playing games. Works very well for me.

Then it sounds to me like SOE is doing you a favor.

Haha :) That is funny and true but when I really want to play it makes me sad :)

Why start the game through Steam anyway? Simply create a shortcut in Steam and save yourself the hassle.

This thread is ludicrous. The OP is complaining about a condition he is imposing on himself.

It's not SOE's fault you have a weak power of will?

Why do you have it on Steam? Steam is redundant in this case. Steam is there to sell digital games and to make sure your hard copy is legit.

Since I re-install game every weekend it is easier for me to play through Steam :)

How do you download otherwise? I have 10Mb connection and Steam helps me to limit downloading speed so that I do not use whole connection speed while downloading. Very handy.

Nope, 8 hours a week is my maximum gaming time nowdays. Even when Hossin hits.
and even 8 hours is a bit to much in my opinion. Need to reduce it but do not know how :)

I assume you meant, Steam is downloading everytime even if you don't want it to. Go to the official Planetside 2 site and download a non-steam client. The non-steam client won't download/update unless you log in to play so you don't have to uninstall/install on and on.
Now, I also assume if you delete your Steam PS2, you can just install a non-steam one and your account will log in just fine. That i'm not sure, so go to the official forum first and ask a moderator or create a support ticket.

You could install the game on an external hard drive, and just put it somewhere really hard to get to. Like a bowling ball sized iceblock, or a box sealed with nails, or give it to a friend

I have an idea for SOE. They must implement accopunt locking system so that I can configure it that it is locked for me any other day except the weekend :) That would be a great feature! :) And that I could not unlock it while it is locked.

I think your solution will not work because it is for parents to control children. But in my case I must control myself and I am a Sw engineer by education. So, if it is possible to hack the solution I will easily hack it.- I need a solution that is not possible to hack like slow download speed or SOe automatic locking that I suggested before.

And this is why games should be downloaded with no hit on bandwidth (within reason. eg: You're allowed to download a game once a week/fortnight with no effect on bandwidth).
For someone like me, this is a VERY serious problem. Was thinking about getting back into the game at some point (I stopped playing after that stupid sniper nerf) but now if I get back into it, it's HALF my bandwidth FOR A MONTH! As I only get 40gb a month (the ONLY option beyond that is unlimited and I'm with BT).
So... Spend half my internet usage on a single game (and this is before playing mind) or go into town and look for games on discs that won't affect my bandwidth so much? Seems like a no brainer. Only way I'd put out half my internet usage is if I think I'd be playing the game for a long time.
And before someone asks, I downloaded the game before the patches in the past, hence the hesitation of doing just that now.

Or you could have made a backup prior to deleting it and avoided all this? ....

And that helps people in my situation just hearing about the game how exactly?
I'm talking about internet usage in general. There's X games which are free to play, but with games taking up more and more space it's getting to the point where one is being pushed towards higher (and therefor more expensive) internet options. Which kind of defeats the purpose of free to play thinking about it. I mean, would you pay a one time fee in a store for a game that would have taken half your internet usage online or pay a higher monthly fee just for more download space? It's cool if you can afford the later but not everyone can.
It's not a fault of the game makers though, it's a fault of the only reliable internet companies that only provide minor amounts of internet usage without raising the internet allowance to adapt with the times. At least, that's how it is in the UK. People in America seem to have 200 gig+ to burn through. >_>

Downloading the standalone installer will only download the files it need, and reduce the download by about the patch size.
You can get it Here (https://www.planetside2.com/register) (clicking the "download the game") if You are in the US
Or PSG version Here (http://launch.soe.com/installer/PS2_PSG_setup.exe) if You in Europe
