This came up with my outfits chat and we had the great idea that other factions seem to have cool guns that are specialised while we seem to be the *shotgun* faction but only have 1 shotgun that the other factions don't get and thats for 1 class. It would be nice if the NC shotgun had some faction specific attatchments like explosive shells, perhaps a lmg ranged shotgun, basically some cool shotgun types.
If they want to make us the shotgun faction thats fine, just don't give all the other factions everything we get except 1 thing.

Airhammer too and the joke of a weapon that the enforcer modified is. Airhammer alone makes up for this for me though.

You also have scat maxes, shields to move close to the enemy and intant gib weapons.
Well, I will trade the over nerfed Vulcan in any other ESAV weapon any time, but if I can choose I will get the VS one.
You were going to receive a gauss sniper rifle with a secondary shotgun mode.
They removed the secondary shotgun mode for two reasons:
It was bugged, but it could be fixed, killing maxes with two shots was WTF?
All factions got morrows, in this case people was saying, please no more shotguns!
And for the last one, infiltrator with access to a shotgun type weapon would make the game explode with complains.
But it is clear that the NC will get the best sniper rifle in the game, while the VS will get a versatile one (can be both semi auto and a kind of bolt action) the TR will get the crappiest one, it is like giving a T9 carv to the infiltrator but with less bullets. The NC will have long range advantage in the game, that's for sure.

I hate shotguns as a weapon on all classes.
Shotguns are more for a twitch players who do not miss and then you get your kill. If you miss you are pretty much doomed while reloading.
I didn't play other factions but NC and our NC shotguns just boring. Yes I can use shield to protect myself but I cannot kill you if you are 5+ meters away from me and this is majority of the fights in Planetside 2.
Just for comparison. If NC MAX is effective in 5 meters radius that give us 50 square meters of effective area. I do not know what is the effective radius of VS or TR max but say 15 meters that gives you 550 square meters. 10 times bigger effective area for TR and VS maxes.

This came to my mind: a NS short, double barrelled shotgun, massive damage because the TR would never give us something like that, the NS are my only solution now.

my thought is:
TR underslung chaingun
NC underslung tri-barrel "shotgun"
VS underslung lightning wip gun
available to engineer, combat medic and HA classes (of course best on HA)
weapons would have a variety of special ammo types to make it better in certain ranges or against vehicles

Honestly the TR are getting the best one IMO. It may as well be an assault rifle for the infils. Sure NC are getting a higher damage bolt action that can 1 shot people from further away but infils who have been sniping from the dawn already have no problems doing this with the Longshot, Rams .50 and Paralax.
VS Infils from what I have seen aren't 'too' happy about their sniper rifle as not a lot of people like the charge up mechanic but at the end of the day it's still an unlimited ammo bolt action or semi-auto sniper rifle. With good position there will be plenty of kill streaks int heir future.
As for TR did some playing around with their sniper rifle as I have been playing around with Semi-auto's on NC recently and this thing does everything I get out of my Semi-auto on NC but can also be a reliable cqc weapon. All in all none of them seem blatantly bad to me.
*EDIT* Addressing the MAX's though. I'll say the same thing I've said in another thread. I've since given in to slugs as they were buffed several patched ago and seriously, it's night and day with than without them. Give them a try, you have to space your shots out in .5 second intervals to be accurate up to 35 or so meters but you can do it. <5M it's your standard spam clicking procedures still, just slightly less damage as MAX vs MAX which I will gladly trade to be more effective at range. Yet range never was the 'real' problem with the NC MAX. It is and always has been sustained fire that is the NC's MAX's downfall. Now obviously you shouldn't be able to sustain fire a shotgun that instagibs people but a new weapon variant for all factions would be nice. Maybe a 3 pellet shotgun with a march larger magazine if they wanted to keep the shotgun theme in line. Even still I believe they should just do an NS Shotgun/HMG for MAX's.

Ok maybe 0m is overdoing it =p but aye our guns are to short range to be any use really, if they want NC to be the shotgun faction they should focus on giving us longer range ones that fit the playstyle of you hit you hurt a lot you miss your screwed. They could do with doing this for all the factions really, working on making cool guns which fit their style like more minigun type guns for the TR, a variety of different range shotguns for the NC and some more high tech type guns for the VS (just making the bullets purple and make a laser sound DOESN'T count)

An issue with adding all sorts of these cool effects too is that we're still in a 32bit client. If I were a betting man I'd say a couple months after we get the 64 bit client we'll start to see a lot more new and unique effects for stuff.

You don't necessarily need to give us new cool shotguns, just tweak what we have. Increase velocity in some cases, decrease spread, stuff like that. The jackhammer could use say an additional pellet, higher velocity, and decreased spread to truly be the king. The airhammer could use a little tweaking, but I wouldn't think too much. The enforcer modified is absolute crap right now though, major overhaul needed. Increased velocity, decreased spread both to bump range. It just sucks terribly.
As far as cool shotguns though, how about a shotgun pistol?
Oh, and regarding the underslung, 3 rounds would be nice, similar to the modern masterkey. One doesn't do much.

Aye a faction specific pistol would be cool, a shotgun pistol for the NC, perhaps a pistol with ultra fast fire for the TR (so its sort of a shotgun, unloads all its bullet in a VERY short time) and the VS could get something too... I just don't know whats cool to go with accuracy...

We were already going to get a shotty pistol but they scrapped it because the other factions complained. Namely because shotguns on infils; a mute argument in my eyes as smg's are already way more effective than that will ever be.

I with soe would realise other factions will always complain about the NC, they don't want us to have any useful weapons so we are easy to farm. I don't even see how it would be to much (unless they balanced it badly) I'd see a shotty pistol being 1 shot that does maybe 3/4 hp.
And infiltrators have 1 shot kills from 300m away... how is a shotty pistol going to make a class designed to make the game less fun worse anyway?

That is hardly an argument because OHK from 300 meters away a moving target is a pure luck and happens. Well. Almost never.
But sure it is possible :)

Its not *luck* if you know how to lead a target properly you can do it a lot more, I've been 1 hit killed a TON while running (and of course even if they miss your head its only 2 shots). Sadly the shotty pistol COULD have been a 2 shot pistol but now the Xbow does that it would need to be a 1 shot kill to be worth having (unless it could just have 2 shots loaded)

I've been 1 hit killed a TON while running
We have vastly different experience. When I constantly moving I cannot remember when last time I was OHK by sniper with bolt action. It is that rare for me.

A shotty pistols advantage should be rate-of-fire, the disadvantage, range. So it takes 2 to kill, but can fire very quickly.

For the bolded part I'm envisioning a Metal Storm type system; maybe in a 3- or 4-barrel configuration for a pistol and a larger, 7- or 9-barrel matrix for larger weapons.
