Let's put our advertisement click on banners in the most annoying spots such as the former deploy button and let's make it the same colour just to really piss them off. Job well done SOE. Despite how much cash I've invested in this game..this shit keeps up and you'll see more people walk to avoid the annoyance then you would see any benefit from those same adverts.
Its becoming more annoying every patch. There's advertising and then there's harassment. SOE has entered the harassment stage.

I wonder how much of this new nudge system is based on just wanting more subscribers and how much might be based on really needing more subscribers. To me it sounds like they are having some financial issues.
Anyway we are going to have to get used to seeing more advertisement for their monetization, not to the degree that we saw during this silly debacle.

Continue putting up the ads if that brings more content faster, imo.

I understand they need to make money. But when its a part of the main play interface in its current form where it interferes with the gameplay, then for me, that's too much.

well,if you read the intertainment news then you would know that Sony Film is in a shitload of financial trouble, mass layoffs, cutting dept.s and other drastic moves to save the company
then add in the loss of sales in their television div and the mess that Japan is still in due to the 3/11/11 disaster
I think it was the main reason this game was rushed into release

Well, confession time.
I did find the prompts annoying, although I think they've already turned them off.
I unsubbed last October and stopped playing, however in the last month I've started again, and adopted a new playstyle and surprisingly (to me) I've enjoyed it. So, I decided to resub.
The adverts didn't make me resub by being annoying but they just made me think about it a little and wonder whether I should.

Well, Higby's post confirms they are in financial trouble. Wonder if SOE would ever consider getting off of the free-to-play kick. Doesn't seem to be working out in the case of PS2. But, I may be talking out my ass there cause removing F2P and putting in a subscrition based system might net the same results in income or worse. <shrug> Watchagonnado.... Also, there's not a big incentive to have a membership. I would have one if there was.

Has SOE ever ran deals on memberships like say half price for a month or anything like that? They may have and I missed it but that might be a better way to entice players than spam the screen with adverts.

I don't think Higby's post confirms anything except that SOE needs money in the same sense that every other company needs money.
They need to make a profit and, good, I hope they do and I am sure they are.
So they advertise. Companies do that, nearly all of them, even the ones that are making huge profits.

Let's remember SOE is a business first, and a gaming company second. If you all want to keep playing PlanetSide 2 for free then welps.. there has to be a sacrifice here or there.
Either way the frequency of popups was a mistake that's been addressed I think everyone can calm it down a few hundred notches now.
Higby's post doesn't confirm they are in any financial trouble. Every time SOE sells something everyone thinks they are in financial trouble. The game is FREE by default.

While it may be annoying I think reaction has been a little hysterical; its a business they have to turn a profit and pay the salaries of all the guys creating the content, guys that play for free need to chill out.

I don't mind advertisements as long as they're not purposefully made to annoy you, like the prompt you need to click.
I just wish SOE was more creative in their way of monetizing the game. Some one on reddit suggested (http://www.reddit.com/r/Planetside/comments/21omo0/war_bonds_as_a_means_of_promoting_membership/)for instance to connect SC with the lore by introducing war bonds. An interesting idea the least that would make monetizing the game a lot less obtrusive imo:

the only part that bugs me are the popups that look like legitimate in game requests, such as squad invites, friend requests, and seat swap requests.
it's already been the case that i've checked my notifications to find a platoon merge buried in 3 advertisements because i started ignoring that portion of my screen.
it seriously distracts from play, and abuses an otherwise important feature just to spam about a sale that could just as easily be made visible many other ways.
the upgrade button is generally non offensive, and other menu related or even chat messages in game or in loading or death screens would not distract from live play in the same detrimental fashion.

It could be that they are financially solvent but want to expand the dev process. This is likely as they are doing much more frequent updates and I haven't heard of layoffs. The deploy button is annoying, but everything else is just fine. I stand by that I will resub with the release of Hossin.
