Greetings,
Hackers are absolutely not welcome in PlanetSide, The game will be regularly monitored for players who are cheating. Additionally, all reports of this type of behavior will be investigated and any appropriate actions will be taken.

I see it posted here too but I wish there was proof, like a screen cap of an email or something. Seems fairly believable that this message was sent. As for the GM doing what he says he'll do... I'll believe it when I see it.

Surprised they care. Good on them.

Saying you care, and showing through actions that you care are worlds apart.
That they are making Planetside free instead of just pulling the plug forever gives me hope.
That even when there were quite a few people playing and paying $15 a month, that they were not responding to support tickets about hackers in a timely fashion and that when they did respond most of the time the GM that responded would have a signature that said ~'Good Luck in the Land of Azeroth' or 'May the Force Be With You'. Makes me a lot more cynical than hopeful.
If we weren't getting even remotely adequate support and response to cheaters when people were paying a monthly sub, how am NOT going to be doom and gloom that when it goes free to play there would be anything close to the support we need?

Yeah, I agree. Doesn't make much sense. They closed down the trial program, called "The Reserves", that allowed players to play for free back a long time ago due to hackers/exploiters. Was the only way they could stop them from creating new accounts and doing it over and over again. *If I'm mistaken about that please correct me. But I'm pretty sure that was the reason they stopped the trial program.
Now they are going to just allow anyone to play with no fee and try to combat hackers/exploiters again? What's different this time around?

The reserves program was started as a year-long free-to-play program, and it lasted the full year; so you can't really say it was stopped because of the cheaters. Though it is probably fair to say the reason it wasn't extended was a in part due to the cheating problem.
That said, Planetside 1 does actually have an automated anti-cheating system which detects cheaters and bans them without any GM intervention. It was limited to the free accounts because it does have a problem with false-positives (especially with high-ping players). Some vets may recall that they enabled it for all players at one point, and the system banned about 200 people in a week, and there were wide-spread calls from players saying the were wrongly banned who had their accounts re-enabled.
From then on, the system was only used to auto-ban the fodderside players, and the logs were also used to when a specific incident was reported the GM's would go back and check if the incident coincided with the anti-cheat log flagging a particular player.
I am quite positive (from reading the hackers whining about it on their forums) that the auto-ban system would ban players rather quickly for most hacks. The notable exception was pull-hackers (that's the hack where a person sits somewhere somewhat away from the action, often in a MAX way in the air above the flight ceiling, and teleports, or 'pulls', enemy troops in front of them on their client only, then because of a problem with CSHD they can kill enemies in massive numbers while being unkillable and apparently invisible.) Pull-hackers used clientside data and was very difficult for the automated system to detect them, so they could sometimes stay ingame for hours until an EQ GM came over and banned them in person...
