I decided to come back and give it a try and I still don't think Planetside 2 is a good game, they've not addressed any of my problems and in fact it is worse as the population just isn't there any more.
All that aside SOE do not know how to make post launch content, they never have and never will. Their motto seems to be, get the game out of the door and shift all the developers elsewhere. This is why their games fail, they just seem too focused on the next thing and don't pay attention to what they already have.
I remember playing many of their older titles and whenever you'd get new content, they'd put massive efforts into the stuff you'd pay for like TCG items in SWG, those items were all new and amazing, yet anything put into the game for "free" was just recycled.
Usually with SOE they'd claim new dungeon content and yet it would be a cave that looked like every other, with some boxes or whatever copied and pasted and dotted around, with a randomly generated NPC pasted into a lonely room.
This is why The Dead Mines was so amazing for me back in 2004 with World of Warcraft. Typically a low end dungeon would have been that boring cave, all the high end stuff was exciting like Dead Mines, yet I never got to see that stuff because I was so bored with the crap low end content. Blizzard showed how to create amazing content across the board, then each expansion after that was all totally new content and Cataclysm was even redoing the whole world! This is something SOE has never attempted, they do a zone from time to time, but usually they let their low end content just die.
PS suffered from the same issue, Core Combat was developed in just a few months, had barely any testing, what peopled tested of it, they hated and yet it was pushed out any ways. That expansion was like one artists work who had to rush it all or something, like the flame thrower effect, I have a hard time believing they were happy with that..
Now with PS2, well firstly we've seen no real new content since launch, any of the weapons that have been added just look like all the rest, there has been now new classes or armour sets or anything significant. I think they added one vehicle since launch, but to me it looks like another one, so I couldn't even tell you what it was. Then we have Hossin which is the first island since Amerish which must have been in the game close to launch or even beta... I'm not sure as I cannot remember, all I know is it was there when I used to play a lot.
What Planetside 2 needed was more content of a higher quality and faster, because it was launched in such a sorry state (typical SOE) that people were leaving so fast. At this rate there will be another new cont in 2016.. like no one will care because the game is old and dated by then.
Bases have needed to be redesigned since beta, they are so large and yet have very little indoor floor plan, this just means they're there for show, but aren't fun to fight for, so no one bothers and just still don't defend.
So when I look at Hossin, it is no surprise that it is just recycled content that has just been laid out in a slightly different way....
The new stuff I ask for isn't a big ask, other games come out with giant expansions with so much new content and new land masses which are totally different. I just think SOE has only like 20 active developers working on the game and shifted everyone else to new projects.
Good luck with H1Z1, knowing SOE, Dayz will out pace their development lol...
