Loyalty. Cheap running costs and a way for the game company to say 'hey our games don't die off that quick' People still log into Planetside 1.'

Loyalty for us to enjoy the game and stick with it, cannot ever think how id feel if I never got to log into Auraxis again! Unless there was an Emulator.

People have already been exiting PS2 at a pretty high clip ever since it was released, probably even more so now that the company has been sold.

The PS1 population has gone down if that's even possible.
