Mold

The air seemed to thin suddenly, as if the surrounding walls inhaled the dank atmosphere. Mold sensed an eary peacefulness in this unpredictable environment. He just wished he could get reception of the current news channel on his helmets display. Although, being cut off from the rest of Auxis and its current political troubles, exploring deep in this massive Vanu artifact in the search for new technology, while being decked out in Vanu armor and weaponry, was exactly what he needed.
"If only everyone else on this damn planet had been here right now, they would all see what this magnificent technology would do for our way of life and we wouldn't be having this conflict." Mold thought to himself. He was not a scientist, but was still a true believer in the Manifesto shared by the people of the Vanu Sovereignty.
Ahead of him where a pair of scientist from the original Exploration unit sent out by the military expeditionary force nearly 30 years ago. Mold was their body guard for the day. His duty was to neutralize any hostile situation and to protect the findings of the scientist during transportation. They where studying a doorway which seemed to be sealed shut. Mold grew impatient as he made a visual check down the foggy hallways of the Vanu structure. The building was still mostly unexplored that an alien life form could come from any direction. He dreamed that he would be the first to encounter an alien life form. Part of him that strives to seek new things wishes the alien was friendly so that they would teach our kind more about the Vanu technology. The rest of him that struggles to deal with the chaos of the current events wishes the aliens where hostile so that he could vent his rage on something other then human lives.
With the way the walls of this structure are interfering with the instruments of his suit, anything could sneak up on his position without appearing much more then a faint blip on his helmet radar display. Much like the one he was seeing just now directly down the west hall. With a quick, panicked movement, Mold spun to his left and activated his high intensity light in attempt to get a visual.
"What is it?" a scientist uttered in shock as they snapped to a stance behind the soldier.
Mold stared in disbelief at what he had seen at the far end of the hall. He wasn't sure if this was really happening or if his mind was off in a dream. The figure did not appear to be human. It was much to large to be a man and it had one narrow rectangular teal eye. When the light had shown on a massive weapon attached to its right arm, Mold instinctively raise and readied his weapon.
"Identify yourself!" Mold beckoned to the foreign humanoid.
He could not feel through his thick armor but he sensed the scientist where clenching on his back plate with white knuckles.
Just then Mold heard a familiar voice combing from ahead, "Whoa there Mold," it said "that's no way to greet your partner!"
"Damn it Drederic! I was just about to give you rocket surgery, what the hell have you done to yourself?"
"Your going to need to use a little more then that rocklet to take down this new prototype MAX unit." Drederic replied as he advanced to the Exploration unit.
