Everyone is taking this too seriously. You need to trust me that its not going to be everyone doing everything.. some certs require other certs, ie reaver requires mosquito to get the Wraith u need the balisk, While in order to hack you need a hacking tool, in order to revive you need a medical applicator, in order to deploy you need somthing.. the list goes on
Your just not gonna be a jack of every trade. Your going to be a nice balance of things.. and you wotn be able to suit for them all at once.
i agree hamma.
from what i've gleaned off of you, since certain certs have pre-reqs (galaxy needs reaver, reaver needs mosquito, etc) that amount of certs is needed in order to be able to do top level things in certain fields while at the same time be able to have a basic cover of others.

Adv Hacking needs Standard Hacking.. etc etc etc

Plus also, some certs require more cert points to get than others. Adv hacking will cost a few more than standard. etc
2/3 sounds like a lot to me but i trust Hamma and the DEVs.
Besides if they lie i can always kill them....uhhhh i mean....ummm..... WATCH OUT BEHIND YOU!!!!

Ooops, I should mention my character. Even at max rank I still found that I needed to rely on others for things, I was missing some key certs i wanted. Some things I forgot to add and I had to unlearn certs in order to get the one I needed more..
Its balanced really well, Have faith in the dev team. They are working hard to bring a great, balanced game to you.. game balance is one of ther upmost concerns

so it seems we have previously underestimated the scope of certs, if everything needs a cert, and some follow on from others than yes, i spose 2/3 is fair..... i mean a pilot good enough to fly a galaxy and survive should also be able to fly mosquitos, but may also choose not to....
it seems to me that 2/3 of ALL certs is alot though, but we shall have to wait and see....

:stupid:
I think so too but like i said i trust Hamma and the Dev team, they know if it's overpowered or not, if he/they say it's good than i'm cool.
I don't mind the number of certs really, i just don't wanna see jack of all trades. As stated above, specialization = teamwork = more fun. :)

I voted yes. The game will be more fun if you can fill a wide array of roles. I don't see why it would be a problem as long as you can't do it all at the same time.

This poll is rigged, I just want everybody to be able to do two thirds of everything . . .
With the current all or nothing certifcation system 2/3 makes sense, and doesn't seem surprising to me at all. Equipment loadouts should be what keeps characters from doing everything.
IMO PS would have been better with a more detailed RPG like skill/stat/attribute/ system. Too late now though. :D
I think just limiting the armor that pilots/drivers can wear and requiring an implant to effectively use the REK, BANK, and Medical Applicator would reduce a lot of the fears being voiced over at the station boards (that place scary  ), but for all I know it isn't even a problem anyways.

If one cert requires a prerequesite, what happens if you unlearn the prerequesite after obtaining both?
An example would be having a Mosquito and a Reaver cert, then dropping the Mosquito cert. Would you lose the ability to fly a Reaver?

This is what happens when some people take 4 lines from IRC and turn it into a witch hunt. And they wonder why the devs stopped telling us anything about the game until they were sure it was going into the game...

indeed, rather stupid how we have such concerns over a cule of lines in an IRC chap, but thats life i spose.....
we shall just have to wait and see, as hamma says the devs are puttin alot of work into making the game balanced, so im sure t will be fair.

I trust you Hamma and the Dev team cause they are uber |337 and pretty much control our brains... Oh and you probably still won't see too many jack of all trades just because some roles are going to be more fun than others for certain people. To put it in simpler terms, Bob likes to drive a Galaxy. Bob has many more certs but he rarely uses them. Therefore, Bob would be specialized as a pilot. What I'm trying to get at is that there won't be many people that are going to want to do everything. Maybe at first but once they know what they want to do, they will probably stick to one specialized field.

One of the points a lot of people seem to be missing is that personal inventory space will not allow you to do all the the things you might have certs for at the same time. In the service, you qualify to fire serveral different weapons, but you can't walk into battle carrying an m16, m60, law, anti-personal mine, etc all at the same time! You pick and manage your loadout based upon the task you plan to achieve. Between weapons, ammo, etc.. there just is not space to be a Jack-of-all-trades in the field. With 2/3 of the certs, you can be versitile at choosing your task at the base, but once you pick your loadout and hit the battle field - you are no different than the guy that has less certs in the field.

I agree with this for the most part. My statement was just taken out of context and misunderstood. Ive tried my best to explain it not that big of an issue, and also mentioned to the devs that that thread exists so they can help put out the fire I created. hehehe

There'd be no point in making Mosquito a prerequisite of the Reaver if it were possible to use a Reaver when you unlearn Mosquito.
