Well now that I've been in beta a few days playing very nonstop.. I must say, this game really does rule! Tonight I had the fun of a tower standoff, and as many before me have said, this is one of the most enjoyable things about PlanetSide. I spent most of the time running up and down sniping whomever I could (and I did quite well I am glad :D ) and stepping outside and mowing through the masses. My current favorite config is Reinforced with a bolt driver and a gauss. I've been stocking Cyclers as they're pretty nice too.. The gauss is still my fave though.

Anyway!! on to the Shots. Hopefully, I'll take some more cool ones and keep updating this thread, but for now I'll start with a couple that I'm really proud of. After the heat of the tower standoff let down a bit, I charged out (Surge implant is awesome) to the beach to try to get behind our attackers. I was very successful hehe.

How much does surge increase running speed? 2x, 3x, 4x, mach1?

Hmm I don't know the exact multiplier, and I believe it's different for each armor type. The stamina it drains is also different per armor.

In case you didn't already know, the fastest way to run is with no weapon out. Well with the Reinforced armor, running with no weapon out is bearable but still slow. With Surge, which doesn't drain too quickly by the way, the speed is quite nice. Especially inside..

In agile armor with no weapon out, the speed is very high, and stamina use is even lower.

Sometime I'll do a quick count to see if it's evident what the multiplier is for you.

I had the knife is 2ndary mode.. and it took either 3 or four. I hit him twice before he was able to turn around. You can see he hit me a bit before biting the dust.

Oh, and by the way that wasn't an "open field" it was actually a nice forest-type area pretty far from that tower. He thought he was safely distant.. he was wrong.

Ahh finally, some more awesome shots.

Well I recently tweaked my config to try Gauss + Thumper on RF, because I was sick of being so futile against MAXs and larger groups.

At first, I wasn't so sure, because the Thumper's projectiles are hard to follow, but after tonight I realized why I will definitely cert in Special Assault. Base defense/assault. We had just captured this base and the Vanu were literally flowing in this one hallway. I turned the corner and originally just saw two running in. I thought, no problem right? So I'm ducking in, launching pinecones at them, and stepping back behind the turn in the hallway. I dispense with those two, and start running down the hall only to see two or three more running in. Truth be told I think I killed at least 8 VS troops in total just from using the thumper effectively and having enough health kits :)

I noticed you weilding the thumper...
I havent used it in combat, and I've only been on the receiving end of it a few times. But just the few times I've encountered it, it seems like it's a really good weapon in the right hands.

O man that looks so sweet, I had a fight today too, we were on Solsar, on an assualt on the technology plant, one of the 3 last facilities owned by TR. We got throught the main gates and swarmed at the main door. I walked up, hacked it open, Then BAM the doors opend and all hell broke loose, yea it was great. i sprinted in cornering the puny little TR with a surpressor, i dont know why but im really good with that gun, its weird. then we pushed our way upstairs, opened the door to the CC and we stuck it out, it was sweet.

Then we were under attack on the west side of the base, i ran over there to give some support, we took down a max with our nades when suddenly i see a flash of red. I instantly turn on my Darklight and appearing are 2 TRs with knives on the walls just crouching. I rail one to the wall, the other pulls out his pistol but i make a few holes in him and snatch his pistol. if u ever get a chance, its a pretty cool weapon. Weeee ill be takin Screenshots tomorrow too hehe

Lol, i noticed theres a vanu coffin between all the NC and TR ones in the stares on shot 6 of thew tower battle was that there befire you got there or was he a stealther that got in the middle of your fight?

Vash, I have only been using the thumper in "trial" mode for a couple days now. So far in outside battles it hasn't helped me much because either A) I forget to pull it out or B) I can't track the projectiles in air. Both things I could fix with more practice. However, as I was describing for the first screenshot, indoors when you're facing small groups of troops in tight areas (hallways) it is absolutely beautiful. I'm sure with a little more practice you could clear hallways without ever getting in harms way (using secondary fire bounces the grenades around). It's something I'll definitely invest in because Special Assault gives three great weapons for different situations. The Decimator absolutely owns armored targets.. Main drawback is the low ammo, as far as I can tell.

I am pretty sure that VS coffin was a stealther who got in. I was noticing about every 15 seconds or so, an infiltrator would be in the bottom floor of the tower with us. With that many people running around and that many things you're bumping into, it's very easy for a cloaked person to sneak by. Another thing, is even if I saw through their cloak, I never tried killing them much because there were so many friendlies packed in that it would have been more damage than he could have caused anyway. When they got to the bottom level, they were dispensed with quickly :)

Ghoran, I just noticed, in "Tower 3" you can actually see two stealthers. They're just too hard to catch and dispense with safely in such a chaotic battle.

:rofl: Yes seeing through the cloak and taking out an infiltrator is very satisfying.

The cloak is almost useless at range. When I'm sniping, the running infiltrators are very obvious. I would almost recommend not turning on cloaking suits while running around outside, because if I see someone cloaked (which is super easy at distance, or especially at night/foggy) then I'm more likely to choose them as a target - they fall in one hit.

The other day I took out a cloaker from range who really got very unlucky. It was pretty empty and I was just scanning the area when something caught my eye, I glanced over to it and it was just a coffin.. But near the coffin I saw something barely move then disappear. I put my crosshairs down, they turned red.. I shot and killed. I actually sent a /tell to the person saying how incredibly unlucky they got that I just happened to be looking in that direction at the right time, distracted by a coffin.

Indeed, out of doors a sniper is the most dangerous thing to a stealth, unless the stealth discovers the sniper first, in which case the roles are reversed.

Thats what I like about cloakin, when they walk by somethin, somethin is gona get blurry or actually dissapear for a mere second.

I can see this as being very cool for one reason and very bad for one reason.
Pro: Very cool taunting possibilitys. Imagine a sniper that has some standard armor wearing dude in his crosshairs and he send him a /tell telling him whats going on right before putting a bolt in his face :)
Cons: Some idiot who thinks it would be a good idea to use it to be a "secret agent" for the other empire. :(
Oh well, we will just have to see if that makes it to retail.

It will, because say ur in the VS, and you have a friend who is TR, or ur talking to a GM or something on a different empire, what would ya do? I love fuckin with MAXes to get to the CC, like saying "3 stealthers on the roof of the tower, get up there and take them out" and when they run up there, I sneak over to the CC and hack it, muahnahahahyahahahahahhahahaa, it works every time, DOH, shouldn't of said my plans....... :( :( ;) POOOF!

Ahh great times sniping. I chose it as my first cert since I figured I could get some good BEPs quick. I was right :) They just kept falling. Unfortunately the lag was INSANE so I only bothered with standing targets (even when there's no lag, hitting a moving target is extremely hard). Still plenty of kills though :D All those coffins were made by me. I think in total before getting booted and overrun I killed approx 20. Pretty strong medicine from range ;). I had to run back inside and reload 4 times before they got in the base.

I didn't know this till Saturday night. My squad was decimating a bunch of NC's, there must have been about 20+ of them, for a few hours.

I got this tell from this guy complementing me how i was beating the hell outa the NC's with my turret and mine work. I told him thanks and asked him if he wanted to join us... seeing that we were short a couple people in our squad. He laughed and said he was one of the people getting the crap beaten out him and just wanted to throw a complement.

Luckly I didn't tell him how i was doing it... I didn't know other factions could tell you till then.

Yeah I have mixed feelings about cross-team talking. So far it's all been friendly in my experience, giving props or whatnot. But I think back to DAOC when spies easily ruined most events I attended because they had friends in other realms. In Planetside though I think it would be a lot harder, since battles can be decided so quickly. In DAOC it seemed like more of a contest of who had the element of surprise and who had more numbers. Both of which could be easily and quickly comprimised by a spy. Another thing is that since Planetside has no real level advantage, if you see someone being friendly with the enemy you should take every right to shoot the enemy (and perhaps them both if you're ruthless :p )

I'm not an OC'er but I'm pretty experienced with computers and have done lots of things to tweak my system. I run PS with almost the lowest settings, but I have Mesh Detail on (can't stand blocky weapons and avatars), and I run 32 bit. Outside of PS my Direct3D performance setting is "blend."

While I'm on the topic of performance, I might as well share something I've done that some might want to try. I made a partition on my drive that is about 3 gigs and uses 32k clusters, and I made the entire thing windows virtual memory.

I don't know if that's the cause, but I can testify that PS loads maps extremely fast on my system. The first load is the longest @ about 10 seconds. Recall To Sanctuary is _almost_ instantaneous.

I still lag in populated battles and such, but it's playable enough and pretty enough to hold me over until the next upgrade (which should be soon :D)

Unless I'm mistaken, the NC got their first CR5 yesterday or around that time anyway. The TR have I think one, maybe two (not including SmokeJumper). I haven't heard of any VS... Come to think of it, I've never even seen the first four add-ons on a VS. Someone else is gonna have to speak up. For sure though, if I see some in the field, I'll snap a shot for you.

Neo, yeah, I don't understand the bandwidth limits.. Some times it goes over the limit and the site works fine all day, but both times it's "frozen" my site, it's not even been close to the 56 meg limit.

CEP just got WAY easier to get. You don't have to rush for the CC anymore, just take your group to a base and fight until your faction receives the cap.

cp is easy to get now, but they have a nice balancing thing there for the kills and squad size, and all they have to do is up the total amount of cps needed for each lvl if they want to lower the number of commanders, and I would rather cps are easy to get over the tking land that it was.....

I just had to do it, because I captured a really sweet screenshot tonight. I added about 20 my gallery.. I want to fill it up more with the new beautiful settings (just upgraded my computer last week).
