I love you Gamespot! Those screenshots are awesome!

Oh and now to go some more in depth about the screens. All I have to say is yay and nay! I love to get new screen shots but I wasn't impressed at the graphics. For some reason, the older screenshots seemed to have much better graphics but it could just be that Gamespot has crappier quality. Anyways, we now have learned one new big thing... YOU GET BEPs FOR GOING TO NEW PLACES! Woohoo! Of course, I'm not sure if 100 BEPs is considered to be decent at all...

EDIT - Another thing I noticed just now... drop facilities. Does this mean we will have movable buildings? I think so...

DOUBLE EDIT - Woops I just noticed these drop facilities are what will get us "planetside". I thought they were just drop pods though that came down in like a minute. I didn't even know they had equipment stuff and all that. I thought you did all that up in orbit or whatever. BTW, am I the only one really psyched about this?

Did anyone else noticed they seem to be handing out BEP's for nothing?

"You gained 100 BEP's for useing the inventory station!!"

"You gained 100 BEP's for useing this gun for the first time!!"

"You gained 100 BEP's for investigating the locker!!!"

what's next?

"You gained 100 BEP's for inserting the CD!!!"

"You gained 100 BEP's for acepting the EULA!!"

"You gained 100 for creating a desktop icon!!!"

"You gained 100 BEP's for logging in the first time!!!"

I don't know about the rest of you, but it seems silly to me that you get Battle Experience Points without Battling. That and what the hell are the other XP's it's giving away for?

Hamma owns us all

Seems like it's a nice way for new people to get some BEPs to maybe get one more cert before they really start getting into battle. Personally, I have no problem with it! The more certs the merrier!

Screen quality is down to the engine I think. The standalone shots we've seen is with everything up; probably at real low frame rate on even high end systems.

If it's the same sessions Hamma was in (and by the kills it was) there was 100+ players. Imagine 100+ players in BF!! It'd crawl and that just the graphics engine.

What I'm saying is we'll probs need to live with fairly low detail until we upgrade with future kit; but then sometimes it's nice to have a game that'll look nicer a year down the line due to your PC upgrades.

I'm all in favor of getting a cert or 2 before you head off in to the cold cruel world, but at the very least you should have to earn the points ina training ground or simulator of sorts.

I'm just a little dissapointed to find out that you can get them for useing an inventory.

True true. Oh and I would rather have a not too laggy game with so so graphics than a very laggy game with sweet graphics. Usually when I play online games I turn all the settings down just because it doesn't make much of a noticeable difference and can greatly reduce lag which means it's more fun. The only thing that I don't reduce unless I really need to is the resolution.

lol it would be pretty funny if you get a little code on the back of the CD case that says "type this in ****** to get 1000 BEPs for free!"

They put that code in the EULA, and the Read Me file just to find out if anyone really looks at those things.

On that subject... Is there a way to do training? or do we just basically get a gun and jump right in? "Here ya go kid have a tank knock yourself out."

All your BEP are belong to Vanu.

gotta love the screen

i thought it was a little silly getting BEPs for nothing, that would just encourage little kids to play....... planetside full of little 8 year old rich kids, a world you would like to play in?

im all for getting experience before you go into battle 'for real', but i think it should be atleast earned, in simulators, training etc....

Yes there will be VR Training when you start out. If you complete it all you should have enough BEPs for some basic certs. The training is of course virtual reality (duh) and will give you a feel for the weapons, vehicles, and equipment.

Tobias

The VR training also has a Poon room, but only for Vanu.

Check my screens, they are higher quality ;)

Jinxmasta

Yup except the only thing better about Gamespot's is that they have a lot of Vanu and the Vanu have the most kills :)

Hamma

Yea he was on the vanu team ;)

Who?

BLuE_ZeRO
2002-12-09, 09:21 PM
The guy for GS who played as Vanu.

Back to that training subject. I really think it would be a good idea especially for those who don't get to participate in the beta. Would make for some better battles and what not right off the bat instead of everybody scrambling around trying to figure out what to do.

Jinxmasta
2002-12-09, 09:36 PM
You think it would be a good idea or it will be a good idea seeing as it's already implemented.

BLuE_ZeRO
2002-12-09, 09:37 PM
Oh is it already implemented? Well then it's a good idea to have it.

Completely missed your post there. oops

Jinxmasta
2002-12-09, 09:49 PM
Yea I'm pretty sure it is. Or maybe I heard it from someone else and they said they heard it from the devs but they really didn't... Implemented or not, it will be in the game when it is released. And if I'm wrong on that I'm gonna shoot myself.

Well if you are wrong at least set up a web cam or something so we get to watch. Suicide is now a spectator sport.

Dave (a.k.a SmokeJumper) said back in the IRC interview that there was a limited Virtual Reality Training Center that you could earn a few certs in before you went out to battle.

He did also make a point of saying that you can only learn so much there so you won't have a guy spend all his time in there and come out UberL33t.

I think they were giving away all those BEP's for nothing so that the Press could actually play around with the different types of vehicles/guns without going through the work.

**shrugs**

They (the press guys) started whit the max allowed amount of BEP's.. got boosted up there at char creating or something so they could try most of the toys hehe

Course this is assuming they played the same thing as Hamma, and thats wery likely =)

Hamma
2002-12-10, 08:44 AM
Yea I was there with them, if you look at some of the screenshots on gamespot you will see my name, killing someone. :)

Marsman
2002-12-10, 09:58 AM
You have just been granted 100 BEP's for reading this thread. :D

Jinxmasta
2002-12-11, 09:38 PM
Well if I have already gained 100 BEPs... does that mean I got into beta?

Qanamil_Rafiki
2002-12-11, 10:09 PM
No.

...

That is all.
