We europeans (NOT counting UK) have been deliberately decieved in thinking we'd be allowed to join the beta. Never once have the devs made clear that we wouldnt be in (they had plenty of time figuring who to let in and who not) and by shamefully allowing us to sign up and cling to the hope of being accepted they have kept us coming back to check. (at some level the people from australia and region have been left in the dark as well) Hell, it took more then a week after the final beta emails were sent for us to hear the truth, all to keep us coming back and increasing their chances of making money.
I find this the most disgusting marketing scam i have EVER heard about.
We are NOT angry by being left out of the beta, merely annoyed as anyone would be when left out. We are pissed at the devs for allowing such a cheap trick being used on us.
If they publicly (as newsitem or in the forums) apologise to the ones left in the dark for no good reason we'd accept it and move on. If they fail to do this i will have lost EVERY bit of faith in the devs to do the right thing in any coming situation. At the very least they can come up with some sort of explanation/excuse.
Personally the dent in my trust for the devs may cause me to look somewhere else for my gaming needs, too often has this sort of behaviour resulted in badly run MMOGs.
mmmm.... okay...

I understand that you think we attempted to deceive you.
However, I don't believe that occurred.
No decisions were made about Europeans involved in the beta test until we made the Open Beta selections about two weeks ago.
The only reason that UK was included, and not the rest of Europe, was that the UK was guaranteed to understand English...which is the only language we currently support. (Localizations will happen soon, but are not yet available.)
We wanted to test with Europeans connecting to servers "across the pond" but we didn't feel we were ready for a full European continent test.
If the test with the UK folks goes well, we'll work on including more Europeans at a later time, but we do this stuff in baby steps, whenever possible.
I hope this helps you understand the process a bit more. No slight against "mainland Europe" was, or is, intended. It's a purely logistical decision.

I know Ill probably get flamed for this, but IMHO I dont wanna see any messages on the chat in anything but English.
Not that I have anything against other languages, but Ive seen MMO games divided because of this issue.
I want to be able to understand what your saying, if your speaking Swahealee how can I tell you your about to get smoked by that MAX crawlin up your butt.. :D

Yeah very nice of him to respond to that topic regardless of the major(!) flaming that was going on. Nice to finally have an answer to why we (the Dutchies) weren't allowed in ;)
I can somehow understand the reason, although the Dutch are known for being the best english speaking people in Europe (besides the U.K. and Ireland of course) ;) But they're right, especially the bigger countries like germany and france have more problems with it. And it's true, nothing more annoying then a group of people happily chatting away in their own language on a shared server like it is in a MMOG.

Hello how are you ?? fine ?? Good for you, because I'm a bit hangry because of a stupid guy who said French are asshole and this and that... and they should'nt get the game because of their country and there position about this war.
But this guy forget that we are just talking about a game here and no about politics.
I hope he's the lonely one to think like that.
Thank you.
Et surtout, bon baiser de France les loulouttes.

Yea, I'm glad SmokeJumper replied to this as well. I think he did a good job of explaining it.
When I participated in the PSU Outfit Roundtable, I paid special attention to what the leaders from continents other than North America had to say about PlanetSide. It was interesting to get their perspective. I think I remember Serbitar saying how they didn't want PS to go by the wayside of T2 in Germany. He said that there was little advertisement or promotion and that T2 wasn't as popular as it could be in Germany.
I hope that the PS team makes sure to give these people what they want and deserve. They want to feel just as included as the rest of the world. And an honest answer to their questions.
As far as the anti-French attitude, go to the Political debate forum. This isn't the place. :nono:

That is just BS, they could just have made it available to people who understand english!

Hey sure we non english talking ppl dont always perform the best english but i think it is stupid to say that we dont understand it sure not everyone understands english BUT we do hawe mandatory english classes (atleast here in Norway) and you do hawe to understand what it says on the beta pages to fill out the forms just that is proof enof that the ppl that aplied for beta understands english.
and yes i know i write bad english but i do hawe basic understandment of the langue.

I'm from the UK & have been on Beta for nearly 4 weeks now, it's been great when I'm able to play but that isn't very often. They base everything on CST which is 6 Hours behind the UK, so when they take the servers down until 6pm CST it's 12:00 Midnight here ...... It's also very rare that they bring them back up again on time so most week days I get to play for an hour if I'm lucky, then I'm knackered for work the next day ... !!
I'm not having a moan because I appreciate they need to test server strain when the largest amount of gamers are gonna be online but I can't see how interested they have been in UK/European players connecting when we probably only do it at the weekend when the Dev's aren't around ... !!
I asked SmokeJumper in the Game Chat room if they plan on having European Servers available at launch, but he said he didn't know .. !! He did say there would be some but he gave no indication as to when .. !!
Does anybody here have any idea when European servers will be available .. ??

I just want to know how many european servers there will be and were will they be planted. If anybody know or ave an idea...
Hee hee. Americans are so racist.
At least you've got lots of guns to keep down your numbers. Thank Bush/God for that.

I though I post a message but I don't see it; maybe I was drunk.... It just to ask if anybody know ( or care ) about the number of european servers and their location. I also want to know if the 19th May is a worldwide release or just in that big countrie called USA.
Thank you. :D

Most countries in europe have english as their secondary language. So SOE thought about only those who know english isn't considered very well.
How did we sign up if we didn't know any english ??
Another thing is when I spoke to a CSS person he told me no ETA on release in europe, that I should preorder it if I wanted the game.
I checked preorder ... sigh
Planetside : 49.95$
Shipping: 40.31$
(if I remember the prices correct)
Insane shippingcost from US to Sweden won't you say ?

MancUK Im almost positive that May 19th will be the UK release date (Amazon.co.uk says so, and Ubisoft say so too, they are the publishers for the game in Europe and Asia).
Ubisoft handles EverQuest European servers and Im almost positive that a UK server will be ready on release.
Also remember that after release the servers won't be taken down nearly as often.
The delay in foriegn speaking countries release dates will likely be due to language translations. They will want native language translations before a product roll out in country XYZ, it makes commercial sense.

I think most of people of any countrie in Europe that will play planetside can speak English quite well. I suppose.... But I'm must be wrong: I'm French!!!! ;) :D . It's just a supposition, I just refer to certain guys that I just want to :sniper:
Oh and don't forget: :trsucks: and :ncrocks:
haha sure, put your faith into Ubisoft.co.uk... All i know is that Ubisoft is a shite publisher(hello shadowbane) and i dont trust them one bit...

A good percentage of my European friends speak English well enough to communicate. But some of them do not. I can see reasoning in not wanting to try to answer bug reports or tech support requests in foreign languages when most of the current staff probably only speak English. If you have ever worked in tech support you would completely understand. ;)
As to the French, maybe the Devs could add a team that just sits on the side and jeers. Or maybe a team that earns points by being rude? Might not fit em all but I suppose there are exceptions to most rules. But Paris was certainly not one of them when I was there.

Anti-French? Not really. But actions do have meaning. And so does inaction.
In my case any steriotypes are not based on some irrational acceptance of news media or political interactions but rather from personal experience in France. I limit my opinion in part to those specific individuals I have met, but can't blame me if the sentiment transfers a bit to the nationality. Don't hate the French, I just strongly dislike every native born French person I have ever met in person.
You on the other hand could be totally different then they ;-)
But in PS, you are just another player to me :D

when will we be playing planetside ffs?!?
Like start testing with babysteps well in that time PS is already released everywhere and bta started over here!
Everyone who plays online, surfs the web knows enought
english to participate in bta, even more,
bta is just playing, not saying!
Offcourse, we want to adress bugs and such,
but hell open bta-players never do that,
and i know, i even didn't get a response in certain
bta-games i've been playin!
Anyhow i think the europeans should not be left alone this way,
i mean, on some of the websites you didn't even see Only US or UK, and it didn't even matter signing up for any of those things,
i DO feel left alone, i mean, we get exited, we want to play, we say wuuuw in one week we'll be playin Planetside,
one week later we say wuuuw they released it
and one week later we have to say Too bad, no europeans...
WTF that IS crap!

Done that and enjoyed the game so far, but what happen after the 21. of may??, when the game is released in the US.
Nobody have said anything conclusive acout a EU version, so maybe all this beta have been a waste of time, because I wont be able to play a fps game on a US server.
P.s about all this shite about speaking english, I have seen alot of US-teens who hardly can write/understand english.
mikkyT
2003-05-06, 01:28 PM
Thats because the school system in the US is fuxxored beyond belief, I mean you start school late, you can drop out at any time you like, you usually stay till your 21. THEN you go to Uni. FUCK THAT!
You should be out earning mega bucks at 21 unless you happen to be training for doc, law or teacher...
Anyway, in the UK Planetside will be released 23rd May, pre-order it from the UK www.amazon.co.uk will be cheaper on the shipping.
nhedge
2003-05-06, 01:42 PM
what mikkyt said about the ordering. plus the german version will be sim shipped and the amsterdam server (from what i gather) will be up at release. Sides, it has been said on I think the official forums that European and US servers will be up by release....
staying informed means less bitching. really. there's plenty guys in the states that didn't get in the beta either...so this whole topic is kinda pointless.
