I have seen a lot of pretty nice looking sigs on these boards, as well as others, and want to know what I can do to spice mine up a bit.
I have Photoshop 7.0
I want to make .jpeg sigs from screenshots, etc.
I have a....few....questions.
To start -- How would I cut part of an image, transfer it to another imagine, ie, on top of it.
Also, how can I generally improve image quality and sharpness, and also, where can I find some useful tool tips?
Sort of broad, yes, but anything else plus this I should know.

Um, that second question of yours is easily said buy not done, to cut out a picture get the lasso (or line lasso) tool and trace around the picture tne Ctrl C (copy) and Ctrl V (paste) it into your pictures, press Ctrl T to move and transform it.

work on the composition. let some things overlap and bring them in so theres not as much background. also, cant ever go wrong with contrast :D

Were you talking about the sig I made or the paint picture Ginzue made? hehe
So what does everyone think of my first run, first try Photoshop sig? =D Not much, but I like it.
Need a few pointers
Fonts! -- 3d fonts I see around here, where can I find? In addition, how do I make the edges of something glow a particular hue, the outter edges, but not the inners.
If anyone has some handy tools or fonts I might like, lemme know =D

My first suggestion would be to use a more legible font.
To do image adjustments the old school way, select the layer you want to modify and go to image > adjust... > and choose how you want to make the adjustment.
Now forget what I just said, because one of the buttons on the bottom of the layers panel makes new adjustment layers, which truly-effing pwn. I don't have time to tell you how they work, but play around with all the buttons on the bottom of that panel, because every one of them is the greatness.

glowing edges, layer stroking, color overlay, all these and more can be found on the blending options button which is the little F at the bottom of the Layers panel.
search for free fonts on google, there are a ton of them.

Oh wow, okay. Thanks a lot bro.
On the fonts thing, I tried that but got a bunch of pay sites ( for fonts? wtf this isnt pr0n ) and a bunch of really lame hard to read fonts, hence the best one I could find is there.
Any sites in particular?
Also -- anyone use Corel KPT Effects? I need...."assistance" in installing the program.

Also -- Photoshop mentioned something about the "scratch file" should be put onto a physical drive for better performance, instead of the default windows paging file.
I understand this, but should this be done AND how would I go about doing it. Didn't see any non graphics technical options anywhere.

It depends on your setup, but it is recommended for performance reasons. Photoshop is a horse. Just for fun, I tried launching Photoshop while alt-tabbed out of planetside. Instant CTD when I switched back (I bet Photoshop ate memory that planetside wanted during startup). Then I went back and launched planetside again with photoshop open and I got both of them running at the same time, but neither one was happy about it. I shut it all down, restarted windows, and apologized to the machine ;)

Thats one of the best site out there. For fonts I use fontfreak I forgot the url so google it. Also just play around with it. You wont get anything good out of it unless you use it.
