Today i had my first LAN experience with Planetside, so i thought id share it.

To start off, im the only one of about 7 friends to get into closed beta. 2 of my friends practically live at my house to see the game, so when i got the email asking me to invite a friend i picked the one with the best computer and we lanned. We used my home network over my cable modem. Both of us playing and another downloading through Kazaa and very little lag (probally frame lag or server side).

Anyway, we both started new characters. We certified in medium assualt, reinforced, sniping, and the harrasser, plus i took eng and he took medical. I drove the harasser around while he gunned, till we found a good spot to ditch it and set up sniping. Its here we found a good technique. Using advanced targeting, and both carrying two boltdrivers, we were able to pick out targets and then combine fire power to bring them and a friend down quickly before relocating. (2 shots each, and they only have to stand still once :-) ). After a fairly dumb move by my other friend(during an assualt he through alot of plasma grenades, which inncurred about 800 grief points in 4 throws), we were forced to do ANT runs as my character went into weapons lock.

With my friend piloting and me manning the ANT, we got quite abit of experience and after awhile went back into battle. Its here that i found my tree. Outside a base on one of the desert type continents, there are a few trees that slope to the side. I ran up one of these, put myself into the "leaves" and sniped away to my hearts content. I was so hard to see that a TR soldier with his chaingun got so close that i shot him without a scope.

Just thought id recap abit. I dont tell stories to well, and i left out the random disconnections and repeated weapons lock (new grief system should fix that), but it was alot of fun, and more importantly LAN gaming is possible.

PS is ten times more fun when you are playing with good friends and are either in yelling distance, or in my case using teamspeak.

It is great fun to have one person in the driver seat of a tank and the other in the turret seat. When the driver and gunner work together it is really awesome.
