I going to be playing a vanu infil and I'm thinking of what implants to get. I'm thinking Personal Shielding and Surge, but whatelse? How effective is Darklight Vision?

Please tell me which implants you like and why, thanks!

p.s. Ahhhh...yes, my CDs are here but I don't get home till 6pm EST. Atlanta, GA.

Edit: Would personal shielding be better or regen?

Reading the stats, I would say the shield, it's one-for-one while regen you have to take damege first and it's two-for-one (stamina-health). For a third one (you won't have to worry about it for a while), I would say magnification, so you can scout the area and as a scope for your pistol, or melee booster if you're using a knife.

I know I won't have to worry for a while but I can dream! Don't kill my dream!

Venoxile He reminds me.
That's why I said reading the stats. If you're in or ever will be, may your computer crash every time you try to run the beta.

Yeah no offense but no one cares what you or i think, we're not in beta, we know jack shit. You can't judge anything by its 'stats'. There has already been a post on this, and 2 beta testers recommended regeneration instead of shield. And if you want to know more about infiltrating, go to the infiltrators guide (can't remember where its from and what the link is, help me hamma?).

Let me shed some light on some implants I've tested and played with.

Shield implant - UNCLOAKS you, kinda bad for a stealther when our defense is invis.

Melee Booster - I love it, takes out reinforced armor in 2 strikes with knife in secondary. Although it does drain a lot of mana when you hit, it does awesome dmg.

Adv Regen - I love this implant. It drains stamina and fills your health. Doing this while crouched gets my life back very quick after some hard fights.

also get darklight vision very use full

I got darklight vision on my inf to play the role of the anti-inf inf.

Must have missed that thread. I have before been able to judge things accurately according to their stats, but that's to my style. The only way I can see regen being better is if the shield has a constant drain, actually would make sense, but it said nothing about that in the stats (pre-release stats, heh). But that's just me. :D
Yeah, try our recommendations to see if they work, but don't take us too seriously, we haven't played.

edit: Ahhh, it uncloaks you. Damn.

Ahhh, shield uncloak you which sucks. So I guess its Regen, Surge, and DarklightVision. I plan on being an anti-infil infil too.

You should read the Spy Guide (by KrAyOn i think....not sure if thats right.). It tells what implants would be good to use with the cloak, and why.

Guys I wouldn't pass any judgement till you try these things out for yourself. Sure the regen implant is good but the shield is good if you want to make a fast break into a hostile situation. You gotta weigh the pro's and con's and judge for yourself. By the way, the game PLAYS(which I have being in beta) awesome.

Yeah my first character i'm creating is going to be dedicated to being an anti chaingun whore/infiltrators.

My char:
Armor: Reinforced.
Weapons: Gauss/Jackhammer (assuming jackhammer will be improved)
Skills: None
Implants: Surge, Regeneration, and Darklight Vision
Vehicles: Enforcer/Reaver

I plan on being in 10-20 person squads/assault teams most of the time. I plan on just picking out chaingun whores/other infantry/infiltrators.
I think it'd be really funny just toying with infiltrators, just staring at them as they wonder "can he see me? fuck" then pumping their ass full of shotgun shells...

I'm all for surge, regen and darklight, pretty much in that order.

although I could imagine that the personal shield would come in handy against TR. Their chaingun stuff just seems a tad bit overpowered still. On the other hand, they would probably be whining if each chaingun bullet only took off 2 - 3 health points :D

Melee Booster is good for getting you out of crap if you find yourself one on one with someone who has darklight.

Someone in your squad HAS to have darklight. If you will have a spotter who has it and is around defending you while you hack, then you don't personally need it. If you plan to be solo hacking or if you plan to sneak into the cc while your boys are distracting the enemy, then darklight is a must have.

I think the best implant for a hacker/inful. would be the silent run. For if someone has the amplifier and darklight you would wana run. But then surge would be good, so they would see onl a blur and like me "wtf". Also melle booster would be good for taking your enemys down without them screaming. Also darklight would be good if theres a cloaked defender or if another hacker wanted to hack teh same time you did.

But since i can get 3 implants, i would (if inful.) get the melee booster, silent run, and surge.

Dude, you're not in beta, niether am i, niether of us have the right to say jack shit about the implants. All we know is stats, i'm tired of watching non beta testers trying to answer questions that can only be answered by playing the game.

I use the inf as my main char. I would suggest using the DL implant....comes in handy when you are hacking a base and you don't see anyone there until you activate DL, poof there's the enemy!!

i use darklight, it's so usefull for when i'm clamped in the Control Console room (CC). Don't lose anny STA either when standing still whit it. Nice way to be sure that no claokers get into the CC if i'm not focusing totaly on the game atm (damn boring clamping at CC).

Yeah, calm down Veno. People are entitled to say what they want if they're not playing Beta this instant. And they're just as entitled to change their mind once they play the game too. :p

So take deep breaths and releax...

Damn beat me to it. :D

My thoughts:

Advanced Targeting : Very useful for an "high" level infl so you can see if attacking that reinforced guy is suicide or you have a chance. No worth it if you only have 1 implant though. Also pretty useful for snipers as they can pick off the weak ones easily.

Audio Amplifier : Very cool, i prefer this to darklight since it not only will show you infils on radar (unless they have silent which most don't get) it also shows you exactly what enemy is where so you won't be surprised by those pesky MAXs anymore.

Darklight Vision : Ok implant, it's useful in full action like invanding a heavily defended base and such but for covert stuff or defending a hacked base the audio implant is better.

Melee Booster : Not worth it IMO, i prefer to simply drag around a pistol and some ammo. It is useful for infils using ACEs though. Since it will save you a spot or 2 for ACEs.

Personal Shield : Never used it much, heard lots say it wasn't worth it and judging by the NC MAX's shield i'd have to agree.

Range Magnifier : Not worth it at low level. Maybe a good choice as a 3rd implant if you like to know what's going on before getting there or if you have no other implant needed.(This is why i agree with whoever (sorry don't remember) said that they should combine Advanced targetting and Range mod into one implant)

Regeneration : Very cool, espicially useful for infils.

Second Wind : Haven't used it, i like keeping my health high (regen) than having an instant boost, but like i said haven't tried it so dunno.

Silent Run : For now not much use since most don't have/use audio. When people catch on about the usefulness of audio it will be sweet though.

Surge : So so implant. Cool for light armor without vehicle cert but Reinforced armor drains it too fast for it to be realyl helpful in travel.

I don't remember but does Silent Running or Audio use up any stam?

Dharkbayne
2003-04-19, 03:52 PM
Yes, audio amp doesn't usually work with infiltrators, cuz if they STAY STILL, you can't see them, and I don't think so if they walk or crouch-walk , with Darklight, you can see them whenever, perfect when u got a inf in the CC and u can't find him

WickedDeus

Which reminds me...if q is auto run for every cept MAX....and I think I'm running now....how the hell do I walk?

Dharkbayne

walk with MAX is just w, they can either full run, or walk, but I think u get heard with MAX walk too, since they are so damn loud,

Yes but for audio you don't lose anything as long as you stand still. Stamina goes up at the same rate it goes down. :)

As i said audio is for defending, if you're defending they are attacking hence they need to move. Walking might indeed make them impervious to audio but that's not a huge problem since i can usually spot a walking infil anyway.

(Not in beta, so I guess my words doesn't hold that much water.)

I think the infiltration suit sounds very exciting. Sneaking around in a base, possibly filled with hostile forces, must be a rush... and a test of ones c-o-o-l.

My prediction though, would be that it will get increasingly harder, for infiltrators, as players gets more and more ranks (and implants). If You're up against seasoned players there will probably be at least one that has Darklight up and running.

Quite dubious about the use/worth of the audio amplifier too. Doesn't it only pick up the sounds (and positions) of people that are running? Any infiltrator, worthy his/her name, would crouch/walk.
