Think about this, in the IGN preview, theymention the beta comming up "soon". That, atleast in my desperate mind says before Christmas.

I doubt anything will happen before the new year. Beta will take a lot of support, and people that are in the frame of mind to do some work.

So with Christmas and New Years right around the corner and people taking time off it really seems unlikely that they will start it before then.

Well, if the release date doesnt get pushed back anymore, i'd imagine they'd try to at least get the cd's mailed before the end of the year. How much real testing can be done in two phases between january and march?

Thought it was coming out in Feb... they don't need to do alot of testing mainly stress testing servers and what not. Shouldn't take that long to work out any other smaller kinks in the game.

I expect emails by 19 Dec, and the CD's 1st week of January with the servers firing up 2 nd week of Januarary. But thats an IMHO :)

that wouldn't make much sense considering they are now aiming for a feb release

That sounds reasonable.

Well if its Feb, then thats even better :D

But nobody knows how much testing they need to do, not even the devs. Thats the whole point of testing! Companies should do as much testing as possible to prevent launches like WW2 Online.

Id imagine the testing period of a FPS baseed MMO would not be nearly as long as an RPG based one.

Just a guess :p

It all depends on thier scheduale and what they want to test.
Personally, if they are aiming for a late Feb release, then Starting Beta this month, or NLT then 2nd week Januarary is reasonable.
Consider this, they go Gold 14 Feb, go Live on 28 Febuarary, with the pre-requisite laast minuete patch at launch. Thats a given. If they DO NOT launch with a patch, I will be SHOCKED.

That isn't a hit on them, thats just SOP for MMO's... we shall see.

Has there been a registration for the beta already? :(
If yes, do you think they will reopen it?

Yes.
No.

Don't worry you won't have to wait till Feb to play though, after exclusive open beta there will be an open beta, anybody can download and join in. :)

If they wanna hit Feb they need to start exclusive open beta asap. If they start in Jan they will most likely be late since they still need to do the open beta to test servers.

Anybody else thinking there's no way they make Feb or if they do it will be something like the 26th of Feb.

I mean we are already at the 2nd-3rd week of december. That leaves 5-6 weeks before Feb. So in just 5-6 weeks they have to exclusive beta then open beta and the get it into gold, produce and ship it.

March 31st is my guess. 2 years to the day after the release of Dave's last game (Tribes 2).

30th ;), went gold March 19th. However, the T2 beta was almost 3 months in by now.

IF I get into beta, I would want beta to last for a long time, if I don't, I want it to be really short :D

Umm why??

Even if i did get in (which i won't) i would much rather they get it into gold asap so i can play the real version with my buddies then spend 6months playing a buggy version with a few people i don't know. :)

I predict Monday as the beta acceptance day, and here's why:

They are going to mail the CD's out monday, give the CD's about a week to arrive. But, by that time, many people are travelling for Christmas, so they start their beta with a low number of core testers that are too addicted to PS to travel, and so they get a core team of bug finders. Then people return from travelling and they really start moving.

That's just me though =)

They sure have taken a while tho, must be because of all the applications they have to go through.

First of all, none of my real life friends would play a pay to play video game. Second of all, the bugs aren't horrible in open beta. And finally, it's free! You don't have to pay $12.95 a month and you don't have to pay the $50 for the actual game. Sorry but I'm not rich even though I'm willing to spend the money for PS :)

2002-12-14, 12:02 AM
True i forgot about the beta being free. :D

Still i would probably prefer full version, would depend on the other people testing with me and how complete the beta is. :)

They just weren't ready - plus it takes a while to manipulate all the data to pick people.

Why give people a buggy game that always crashes, best to work out major bugs in house ;)

Jinxmasta
2002-12-14, 12:06 AM
I would still play beta no matter how buggy it may be! If it is buggy, then you tell what it is doing wrong to the Devs, they fix it, repeat until beta is over, and viola you have a bug-free game by release :D

2002-12-14, 12:08 AM
Ummm that's kinda the point of the beta Jinx.

;)

Jinxmasta
2002-12-14, 12:11 AM
I (big emphasis on I) know that but I have seen far too many betas where about half of the people just play the game for fun and don't report any bugs or anything. Or they think the game sucks and then quit beta testing meaning a lot of people that could have been playing and doing a better job of testing COULD actually be testing...

I am in CCG beta, and let me tell you, its interesting. If you have NEVER been in a beta.. its eye opening. Course, PS is a whole different Ballgame from CCG... but still. I want in, just to see an MMO Beta, I have been pumped about PS since I first read about it... man I am excited.
