I know right now that PlanetSide is in internal Beta, but is there a website to sign up for the general Beta so that when it opens you can be notified if you are selected. If so can somone post a link?

I believe the beta sign ups ended quite awhile ago. they were open a very brief time and then vanished. you could hit the official site if you like. there may be some more or other info there.

Official Planetside Website (http://planetside.station.sony.com/)

sorry

Well considering they only want 1000 peeps if i remember correctly and they got something like 30k i doubt they will open again. They have propably already selected the lucky few.

You can always wait a few weeks after the exclusive beta starts for the open beta, myself i don't mind not getting into exclusive beta since open beta is only a few weeks later and is much more fun (exclusive beta = finding bugs, open beta = playing game) :)

Yeah. The exclusive beta for Earth and Beyond was annoying with all the bugs and the wipings. The open was actually playing the game to stress test basically and fix a few minor bugs.

Well, nobody really knows what the beta schedual will look like until something is announced. For all we know, they could skip the open or closed periods all together. who knows....

Skip it? I would sue if they skipped beta...

No there have never been any signup for open beta. The signup in the first week of nov was for closed external beta.

yea stress tests as well as balance issues only found when massive amounts of people play. ex: a squad with certain weap combos absolutely own everyone. this mixed with tactics that are empire specific=unfair. tada.

Actually, you're wrong

When you signed up you could choose closed or open.

Actually you are kinda right, yes you had the choice of what beta you would prefer to help on, but it also stated after you submitted it,(if you would have read it) that even if you didn't get picked for the one you wanted to help on they would keep your app on file for any other beta tests they might need help on. Meaning if you weren't part of the internal/closed beta, (yes the internal and closed beta are one in the same for all those that don't realize this) then you might be selected for the open beta testing. There most likely won't be another app for the open beta do to how many people they had submit apps on the first sign up, but I could be wrong and they might do one more app process. Hope this helps a little.

Ok, I thought the whole point of open beta testing was that it was open and that anyone could get in. I think what they meant by still keeping you on file is that they might choose you for the next phases of closed testing after the first phase. Let me know if I'm horribly wrong though, I don't want to sound like a moron. :(

Yeah I also assumed that open beta would allow anyone to play, like Neocron for example.

But why would they have the option for open beta in the application if you didn't need an application to get in?

You always have to apply for a account.. Open means that they automaticly approves every application (including your dogs... Othervise it isnt open...). :D

One thing though internal means that it is the devs/some other ppl who sit in a lan and test the game, external means testers over the internet.

Just in my honest opinion. If anyone has a beta/alpha terminology (sp?) book I would appriciate it.

Well my point was that if they asked you if you wanted to be in open beta in the applications, they probably won't be accepting any more applications.

I hope they might at least let me change the stats on my application...I just bought a much better computer (one that will actually be able to play this game)

My new gaming rig is being shipped to me for assembly, it would definately be nice to update my applications details, but I should be able to squeak in on my old stats.

Maybe they realized six days after they opened the beta signups that it was much too early to be letting people sign up or something. That or they got way too many people, more than enough to take care of the closed testing spots so everyone who didn't get a chance or signed up with the wrong stats is out of luck. It doesn't, however, make any sense that they wouldn't let you change your information, what if you moved to a new address and they selected you? They'd send a beta cd to someone who's never heard of the game. :p

Once again if you would have read the next page after you submitted your Beta app. You would have seen where they said they would contact you by email if you were selected for any beta testing what so ever, and they would let you know then what you need to do next. I am sure you can let them know at that time if you have any changes to be made on your app, but I really don't think they will be doing another Beta sign up considering how many they had sign up from the last one. I could be wrong, but if they ask everyone else they had feel out the beta apps to help in the open beta they really wouldn't need to do another sign up day.

Or, for another example, if i was getting so much porn spam e-mail that i had to change my address. How would I go about doing that and letting them know so their beta invitation doesn't fall on deaf ears?

TG_Dead__Eye
2002-12-27, 12:54 PM
If you didn't respond to there email then you don't respond, I am sure they have enough people that they can send out the invite for the open beta that if a few people don't respond then they will be ok. Not everyone has the porn spam issues that you might be having, so if you take 1500 people and say maybe 500 of them have to change there email address for what ever reason, they will still have 1000 people they can get to do the open beta testing. Guess you should stay off all those Porn sites so you don't have to worry about getting all that porn spam, or better yet just put the porn address on your email block list that way you don't have to change email accounts.

I didn't sign up for beta, so I never got to see any of it. :(

Dead Eye's kinna right Caliostro, they have enough people to cover any dropouts.

True enough, but i like to keep my stuff up to date anyways. I just think it's kinda silly that we're unable to. Does anyone remember if we had to put our actually computer stats into the application? Or if that's taken from the Sony site?

Flashingfish
2002-12-29, 01:31 PM
Thing is, Sony really dosen't care about individuals (think EQ :p ) and so wouldn't really care less if one person changed their email or whatever; because there are thousands of other hassle free people they could pick.

Stalefish
2002-12-29, 03:11 PM
Yeah, sony's pretty lax about letting people slip away from their beta tests, but the thing is the people that they let off are probably the ones that would actually test it correctly. :p

TG_Dead__Eye

Yes you had to send in the stats of your system, if you remember they had you take a image of your system to show what all you had on your system and attach it to your app. That image shows what processor you have, ram, hard drive size and so on.
