The future, they never have said a year (I believe)

Some time in the 24th century. See, the people got stranded on Auraxis while on a 5 year mission to go where no man has gone before.

I thought it was a thousand years or so?

It has to be a thousand or more years, because the Terran Republic boasts a 'Thousand year peace,' and unless the United States is the Terran Republic, it's 1000+ into the future.

Still funny they're using the internal combustion engine, and with the exception of the Vanu, conventional bullets and cannonry.

Maybe the thousand years of peace was also a thousand years of stagnation. Of course, it doesn't make sense that they have SSTO ships and nanotechnology and are still messing around with bullets, but who cares.

I guess nobody here ever watched StarTrek.

Anyhow, yes it is supposedly a 1000 years or so into the future. As for using bullets to kill people. Some things don't change. 1000 years from now some good old fashion depleted uranium still tears a freakin huge hole in your chest. Now the fact that these machines don't run on fusion power boggles my mind. Heck in back to the future Doc only went like 30 years into the future and came back with a Mr. Fusion powered delorian. Come on SOE, fossil fuels? Be creative damnit. :D

There is no reason to think that the TR has lied any less about the length of their peaceful rule than they do about everything else.

Can the vehicls run out of gas.

Cyanide

No they do not. It would not be fun to have to stop at the virtual BP every time you go out for a battle. Not to mention people would constantly be complaining about the price of gas.

The military technology in planetside (except for the control and flight mechanisms for the aircraft) is below what we will have in the next 20-30 years...I can maybe accept that we will still be using bullets in a thousand years (Although it is quite likely that a more effective projectile will have been found), but the overall sophistication is simply not there. More than a little incongruous.

There's just as much chance that the other Empire sites are riddled with lies and propaganda as there is that the Republic is actually as bad as they say. You really can't trust any of it.

Well maybe when you have peace you dont have to develop better weapons... After all I imagine that wormhole travel would take quite some time to reserch. And there no reason to think that they got peace at our lvl of technology... Maybe they just had good ol swords and arrows when they got peace and then during the oppressive TR the scientists did work as good as they would have if they where free to explore whatever field they liked.

Still funny they're using the internal combustion engine, and with the exception of the Vanu, conventional bullets and cannonry.

Who says they are useing a combustion engine ? The vehicles are running on energy from the warp gates on the continents and that is one of the reasons that they cant trasverse the ocean between the landmasses.

I don't think the ground vehicles are using internal combustion technology any more than I think the air vehicles are using fuel-burning jet techology. They're all using the warpgate energy.

What do people want them to sound like? Sky cars from the Jetsons? The ground vehicles just sound better when they sound like '57 Chevys. :)

As for the weapons technology, maybe chemical-kinetic weapons are more reliable than energy weapons, so they are used more often.

Beh... what the hell does it matter, anyway? It's a game.

We've been using bullet technology for a good long time (Arabs began to extensively use forms of gunpower - precursors to muskets, etc. in the twelfth anf thirteenth centuries. Click here (http://www.gabarin.com/ayh/Powder.htm) for my source). Bullet technology is probably around 800 years old. It's not too out of the question to see it being used another 1000 years in the future.

But yeah, since this is a game...who cares...

Not much progress doing peace time....

All mans greatest inventions was made during war time... If they had peace for 1000 years, they wouldnt have much progress either.
