Servers will be up for two hours from 3pm CST to 5pm CST. Then down for another update.

yeah this seems to be the daily norm now. Servers down most of the day, I come home from work, servers go back down, come back up right before I go to bed. I need to move to the pacific time zone.

There is not 24/7 servers anymore and most likely won't be for sometime the way they are going.

24/7 is a feature described for the retail version. Beta is not and has not claimed to be 24/7 nor should it be if they are really in beta inless the game is fully working in which case it can be released.

We are now officially testing 24/7
^taken from the beta test plan page.

testing 24/7 merely means they are testing the game 24/7 dosn't mean the servers will be up 24/7

The game won't even be up 24/7 in retail...expecting it to be like that in beta is inexplicable (well, there is an explanation, but you don't want to hear it).

There will be power outages, there will be network crashes, there will be server crashes, there will be patches, there will be updates, there will be times when everything might SEEM to be working, but you still can't get in anyway.

If these things are deal breakers for you, just stop playing now. It would be better for your health in the long run, plus the rest of us don't really want to hear your incessant bitching when it happens.

Well..I guess TECHNICALLY servers ARE 24/7, anyone see that locked server? That's always up..so I suppose they're right..but it's stretching it a bit far.

Look you are in beta, fact remains they need to take it down now and then to work on stability issues.

Please create complaint threads once the game is in release and you are paying for it, right now the dev's are putting in countless hours so it will be 24/7 on release.

yeah, but when they fix the servers during the locked or down time, what is getting done, i agree that they are working and i'm not trying to flame them. but after all the optimizations they have been making i still get dropped a lot. i'm fine with it since it's only beta and it is free, but i sure hope that they are able to fix this severe lag/dropping by release, or i personally will not be buying this game. do you guys feel the same way?

lol... do u really think they are going to be releasing a game that is dropping people all the time ... thats why its beta so they can fix it and it wont happen in releaser

Please create complaint threads once the game is in release and you are paying for it

The terms do no exist in the english language that are strong enough to express how bad an idea this is.

Do you really want 50 threads started complaining about downtime every time the game gets patched? Planetside won't be patched as frequently as Everquest or another RPG, but expect at least one per month (During the initial rollout, expect 2-3 a day, and no, I'm not kidding).

If I were in your shoes, Hamma, I'd outright ban such posts ala nudity, and kick people who post them. They contribute nothing, eat bandwidth, and generate bad feelings about the game that are completely unjustified.

All Hamma was saying was that since we aren't paying for the game and since it isn't even in final form, that people should wait until they are actually losing something (their monthly fee) before they complain.

^^

Indeed.

The final form will be stable. It has to be, they are charging a fee for the service so they need to provide a quality one. Will it come down now and then for maintenence and patches? sure. PSU comes down sometimes for work too, it has to be done :p

The final form will be stable...sorta. To expect any MMO game to be completely and totally stable is foolish. No one has done it yet and after playing Planetside for awhile, while I think they may manage the most stable MMO launch thus far, I promise you there sill be issues left at release, there always are.

They said they're pulling down the servers daily now for a little bit to implement patches for the next 10 days so as to prevent another uber patch. Pay attention. I suppose they should magically produce a final product and just let you play it for a month or so for free, cause I mean that's what beta is all about, right? How exactly do you implement patches or server updates with out actually accessing the server?

Servers are down in the afternoon and up at night.
Have them implicated that new server technology produced by IBM yet? Sounds massive to say the least.

It is to be expected that they will take them down at will. Be thankful you get to even SEE the game. I always laugh at people who need to get down to the store .1 seconds after a game is released. I mean, heck, you didn't have it your whole life. What is the rush now? ;) But anyway, this is a beta. You play for free and you have fun. If you aren't having fun, STOP PLAYING. shesh.

BUT on the flip side, it would be nice if they put it in the online news notes that they are patching daily. Too many people don't seem to read anything else.

Oh, and as far as games getting released with bug and network connection problems, etc .... didn't anyone here play Tribes 2? It was absolute CRAP for the first 2 weeks it was out.

Games are like any other product out there. If it is 80% good to go, the deadline is here, and the funds are getting tight, it WILL release. That is a basic rule of poduct mamagement for most companies.

I do not agree totally with the wait till it is released till you complain deal. If they don't think there is much of an issue then the priority does shift to something they think is a big issue. But there are two forms of complaint. One is a notification that there is a problem. The other is being a bitchy whiny child and not being constructive.

Why are you guys complaining? Don't You Get It? The servers are down because SoE is working on them to make a better product for you in the future! They aren't schemers, they don't think ,"Hmm..... Wait, Lets take down the servers! For fun! So THE BETA TESTERS who are TESTING FOR FREE will Love us to pieces!" No guys, actually, they are working to smoothen out the servers... This wont be happening all the time like u guys are saying, when the retail comes out. Its called a Beta Because it needs to be worked on. Its not called a beta because its done, and just some special 40,000 people are part of a Pre Retail Version. If u think that, you're wrong.

Stable yes. Up 24/7, not even close.

Inviting people to come and whine every time the servers aren't up is a drastic mistake.
