How do you think it will be? Say your stranded and need a ride, think anyone will give you one? Or will it be like the FPS mentality where people say screw off - my vehicle.

I personally am hoping its a better community than the latter, given its an MMO and people are paying to play. Hopefully this will create a better enviroment.

So, what do you think?

I have always wanted to be a dropship pilot ever since I saw Aliens as a little girl :) I would have no problem going out of my way to pick someone up, and during the slow times I most likely will be trolling around, looking for people to pick up

That, or finding a random Vanu to land on

I'd also go out of my way to pick people up but I can't guarantee that I won't accidentally run them over while trying to pick them up.

Oh and Hamma? How was the flight model when you tried out PS? (I did a forum search, did not find updated info, so if I am asking a redundant question, feel free to flame :D)

Was it akin to T2, or were you able to roll and such?

I can neither confirm nor deny my desires to fly a Galaxy upside down, full speed, five feet off the ground

I think you will be surprised at the friendlyness of people once they learn the concept of the game.

Alot of you probably havent played RTCW..but Ive been playing it since it came out, and thats why PS appeals to me.

RTCW made teamplay a necessity..something that no one has ever done before..not even counterstrike or TFC.

in RTCW..one lone wolf can mean the game..so people either learn to play right..or get kicked off the server. Because of this, people have learned to help their teammates whenever possible... and I think that once people learn that PS is the same way..they will start doing the same.

anyway, most every vehicle has a gunner position.. people would be pretty stupid to drive someplace without a gunner.

I know personally..I will get certified with buggys, the Basalisk..and the Mesquito at the very least. So i can go solo on the basalisk when i feel like it..can drive buggys when Ive got some friends with me..and can take a mesquito if i need to get some place in a hurry.

The whole pay to play thing, does it reduce the amount of nEWbs? PS will be the first pay to play game I'll have played... I'v played all the Delta Force games, and the amount of nEWbs there is insane, not to mention the cheaters

Corbie
2002-12-14, 06:37 PM
nope..newbs will still run rampant.. and unfortunatly..people still pay idiots too..so there will be plenty of them as well.

Led

N00bs are not really much of a problem, anyone who wants to get anywhere in this game will have to at least put some effort forward.

And it seems to me that the smacktards will be kept in check, they have gone through a lot of trouble to make this an enjoyable game :)

Of course, the hardcore jerks will cause some damage, as always, but I doubt they would get very far. TKing ten people means squat when the assault has two hundred members :D

Tolvy

were actually all newbs to PS (except for Hamma)

For the most part the pay to play will eliminate some of the "less serious gamers" There will be some but if someone isn't into the game they aren't going to pay to play it.

I know I can trust whatever group I play with and the people from the forums here. :) I'm thinking about being base D and I'm sort of worried about lack of action... I don't see bases being under constant attack... and there's only so much you can set up in the base...

The game mentality will most likely run as this:

"The more, the merrier!"

Why, you ask? Simple: the more people you have helping you, the greater your chances of winning. Any damage they do to the other side - even if it is only one kill - is more than it would have been without them.

The only problem is running into TKers. I wouldn't have a fear of this though because the game will be PtP and the rules will be strictly enforced. :D

I liked Tribes 2 for the amount of help you got. If you had the flag and were running back, you'd get guys coming to help you. You'd get cooler guys even giving you their vehicle.

I hope things like that happen here.. but as a safety precaution i'm in an outfit. It pretty much guarantees people helping you out. :D

I think it depends on the people, i would think/hope most will be friendly though.

I'd pick up anyone! But the only problem is that I'm usually too caught up in the game to look at my chat box... so I probably wouldn't even know the poor guy was stranded! I'd do more than land on the vanu! KAMAKAZI!!!!!:furious:

There are a bunch of those movies.

 good movie!

Anyways, even if it is a MMO it doesn't mean people are nicer. Less TKers of course but it doesn't mean they have to be nicer. In EQ for example, I met many nice people but I also met many very mean people. It seemed to me that lower level people were nicer and higher level people were meaner. At level 15 I gave a guy a new sword instead of keeping it for myself and gaining 10pp. Even at that low level, I was willing to help newbies out. When I first started out, I was very lost and it took a long time to find someone willing to help me. He showed me how the game was played and gave me many helpful tips and a little bit of extra money before he had to leave. If only more people could have been like him, games would be so much better for the new players.

well..if you expect people to usually help you..in any form of game, MMO or not, you're going to be disappointed....

what I want to know is how do you get stranded out in the middle of nowhere? O_o

I dunno, I think people will be very helpfull. An extra teammate might make the difference between victory and defeat.

Corbie
2002-12-15, 01:50 AM
people help each other in RTCW..its the nature of the game..if you want to win..you help each other.

2002-12-15, 02:08 AM
I am going to agree with Corbie on this. Unlike other MMO games, there is no reason /not/ to help someone. In EQ, or games like it, if you were to help then it would quite literally cost you. In this, it only makes you more likely to win. I think that you really can't compare this and EQ in that way, as they are two completly different mindsets.

People still get that cowboy mentality where they just want to go off and kill something. Unfortunately it may cost them a key victory to a facility or something. Hopefully we won't see too much of it but it will probably happen more than we like.

Helping I think will be something that you see because of the simple fact that the guy you're helping could be the guy that saves your butt five minutes later... Me? I'm thinking of going Reaver and maybe go up to a cert to drive a buggy as well, if that's possible... and if I see ya wonderin' around, you can have my gunner seat. ;)

BLuE_ZeRO

I'm going to specialize in piloting/driving just about everything. I for one would like to be helped if I was stranded because I'd do the same thing if the situation was reversed.

Well I doubt this will happen too frequently. But it certainly does suck to be stranded on foot. hehe

it will happen.. all it will take is one drunken 16 year old punk with a galaxy cert. drive ya off a good ways from where ya wanted to go and log off.

Actually teamwork will probably happen over time, you will always be playing on the same team with the same people. So you're going to have to learn to trust others in your empire.

Hamma

Im hoping that there are huge coordinated efforts once we get deep into the game - outfits coming together to plan them.. could u imagine a large force moving on a continent...

:drools:

afex
2002-12-15, 08:05 PM
yeah i'd like to be involved in a multi-outfit "raid" of a continent where the goal is to control the whole continent. (every base + warpgates)

you'd have certain people designated to getting bases and others to watch for droppods and shit like that.

Well I do hope that there will be some sense of community in the game and that people won't grab that "I'ma l33t l0n3w0lf" mentality.

I really enjoy when people do work together in a game and actually use TEAM work and stragety. Wanting to get frags in a game is cool, but I like having a solid communication with my teammates, warning someone that there's an enemy behind them instead of just letting the bad guy kill them then fragging the bad guy. Stuff like that really helps others enjoy the game.

And also people must remember that even though Planetside is a MMOFPS it's also in some ways a MMORPGFPS [say that 3 times fast. People do develope relations with the others players on their side. So maybe that one day you picking up some stranded soilder will get your life saved or you given a special implant or weapon that you've been trying to get.

That's the true beauty of it. You never know how something that you do at a certain point in the game will come back to eitehr help you or bite you in the butt later.

Justin

anything that people could give you (you can't give people implants or certs) you could just as easily get for free at a equipment terminal.

Heh heh. The nice thing about having to certify for your toys AND pay per month is that it may keep away the idiot kids who are just running around being tools. They're also less likely to find groups willing to let them in, so hopefully they get killed alot or smarten up and play the game right.

Most persistant games seem to have a relatively low Llama Level. (tm)

yeah. paying money for a game usually does shape people up...

unless they are using mommy and daddy's credit card which will happen quite a bit i bet

The problem is the human mindset. (Male anyhows.) We all want to be the hero, the lone gunman, John Wayne if you will. There's too many people like that out there.

I also think, the longer you play a game and the better you get, the less tolerant you tend to be of "idiot n00bs" who have no idea what they're doing, and mess you up. :)
