I'm having a tough time keeping my CPU under 110 degrees F while playing Planetside with my case open. Normal operation is around 95deg F. I would ideally like to get that temperature down to around 90 while playing planetside. I have a Taisol CGK760172 (Specs) (http://www.taisol.com/cgk760172.html) which I thought would be sufficient for my cooling needs. The case I have has 4 80mm Fans upfront bringing in air and 2 80mm fans venting the hot air out. The power supply I have does not have a fan blowing down on the CPU. Any suggestions?

OK few things to check, is the heatsink making proper contact with the CPU?

have you removed the small plastic cover from the base of the heatsink?

Are you using any thermal paste?

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Yes (Arctic alumina)

I know that there's a solution that properly cleans your old thermal paste from your CPU. Wouldn't regular alcohol work?

110f is 43c... a GOOD operating temperature for xp2200+, especially under load! There should be no reason for you to want to get any lower, because that's a below average temperature already...

I don't see what you have to worry about. :) I (with a 500mhz OC) get up to 56c (132f) while playing games sometimes, which is still an ok temp.

Oh also, people use celcius for computer related temperatures. :) If you want to convert you can go here: http://www.soc.duke.edu/~garyt/temp.html, or just look at the celcius reading in whatever temp program you're using.

have you tried getting a seperate fan assembly that sit right over your processor? heck, if you really want to go to extreme cool you could always look online for a water cooled assembly system, kind of a built in wall mounted airconditioning unit, but that is a little extreme.

I think I'm just a little heat-skittish because my board already puts out a lot of heat. Thanks for reciprocating the help.

Aye, 42c under load is same as what I get. And I have a mother of a cooling setup. Can't really do much better with air. Always best to talk in cel, that way you don't get a heart attack everytime you check your temp, i don't even pay attention to the Far temp anymore. Also your chip/mb/interior temp is #1 dependant on your room tempature. If its blowing hot air to begin with, its gonna stay hot. Just drop your AC in your room down to 55c and your pc should stay nice and cool hehehe, you to even.

I don't panic till above 60C. Above 50C I look for a cooling solution.

But running at anywhere near 40C is a decent temp. If you are worried about board and system heat load your comp up with fans. Most cases have a good 6 slots you can use. If sound is an issue, get Vantec Stealth Fans. Anyhow, I think your computer under load is running suprisingly cool, so I wouldn't worry about it much.
