Hi, Just to let you know (not sure if you care ;)) that one of the latest hotfixes released from Microsoft causes MASSIVE slowdown in Windows when installed.
The Hotfix in question has the ID :
Q811493
to find out if you have it installed there are two ways:
1st :
Go into add/remove programs in the control panel,
Scroll down the list and try and locate the hotfix Q811493,
If present highlight it and remove/uninstall it,
If that does not work.
2nd :
Open Windows Explorer,
Show hidden files/folders,
Navigate to C:\Windows\$NtUninstallQ811493$\
in that folder there will be a second folder named
spuninst
Open this and doubleclick the spuninst.exe
This will remove the hotfix. A restart may be required
If you need any info I usually lurk around here
I didn't find a file in XP by that exact numbering, closest was Q811493, but there were abunch others, all of whom had spuninst in them.

MY apologies, Jim[sF] it is Q811493 that is the cause of the slow down - I mistyped the hotfix :( :(
Update : I was wrong in naming the hotfix as Q811435. The hotfix should have read Q811493
Jim[sF] I would strongly reccomend uninstalling that hotfix m8.
Apologies again :( thats what you get for posting at half 2 in the morning :(
Heh, ok, I just wanted to make sure, seeing as how you can never be too sure about Windows anyway...
Also, it gave me a long list of programs that it said "may" not run properly if I were to uninstall it; tell me, since you have uninstalled it yourself, did it affect any of your games and most importantly, your system in any way?

Planetside was on my list of programs that it would affect. Knowing it wouldn't, I uninstalled it anyway. :) Everything is fine, and it does seem faster! Damn that hotfix...

As powdahound said it does not affect the system at all and all your programs should work 100% fine after uninstalling it :)

The patch is a bit of an annoyance, MS seem keen on ignoring hte issue for now. Uninstalling it will not cause any harm to the PC (incase anyones unsure)
Glad the info has helped a couple of people :)
