Hey everyone, new to the community.

Just wanted to stop by and ask some questions based on my initial impressions of PS from the website and forums. Lemme start by saying im very excited about this game :) Been waiting for something like this to happen since Tribes.

Heres how I invision myself in PS, tell me if this is bogus or im missing something vital:

A terran republic soldier certified in piloting the Marauder vehicle. Ill be equipped with reinforced armor, mini chaingun, and striker missle launcher. I will also have certification in engineering.

My guy will purchase and pilot the TR's Marauder with some friends, covering the flanks of attack groups and patrolling areas. If our vehicle gets in trouble from a heavier vehicle ill hop out and mess it up with the striker. The gernade launcher and rotary turret on Maruader should handle infantry. Ill also have engineering so if our vehicle gets dented up ill pull back and hide behind some cover, hop out, and repair it, then get back into the fight ASAP.

What you all think?

Some other questions i have:

1. Do you need a certification in a vehicle to purchase the vehicle?, drive it?, be a gunner?, or all of the above?

2. How quickly does the Marauder get around and how much damage can it take (will i be able to retreat or will i likely get pwned if i run into trouble)?

3. Can you pilot a Marauder with a reinforced armor suit? Can you pilot a Prowler? If not, can you gun either?

4. The certs for the above work out to be 4 (H-A)+3 (A-V)+3 (R-ES)+3 (A-Buggy)+3 (Eng)= 16. What should i use my other 4 certs for that would compliment the role im looking at?

Thanks guys :)

One more question,

5. How many certs do you start out with?

i will answer a couple of your questions, but most of this information can be found on the main page at PSU, you should check it out, its pretty upfront and clear.

*you get 4 certs to start.
*you need a cert to purchase/get a vehicle, unless you hack one.
y*ou don't need the cert to gun or passanger on a vehicle, there are some vehicles that don't need any certs at all and you can of course drive those.
*fixing your vehicle is great, though tooling around on your lonesome isn't really going to work with the new latice system, not if you really want to get experiance. I guess you could be a scout, but your probably going to want a different getup for that system.
*for most vehicles you need to have agile or standard armor on, I don't know if reinforced armor works for driving the vehicle that you want to drive.
hope that helps, i'm sure there are others that are this forum that can help you also, but i would seriously suggest reading all of the info on the main page as well as on planetside.com, and then seeing what questions you have.

Thanks :)

I did to research on the sites and i tried to keep my question as specific as possible.

One thing im gonna probably change is that with the new matrix system im thinking of using a Prowler insteaf of a Marauder. With all the heavy action going on i doubt id be able to get the Maruader out quick enough to repair it. Prowler looks like it has the armor to do some damage and make it out alive.

Also, how quickly do reavers own vehicles? I was going for the anti vehicle cert so i could hop out and shoot down reavers before they messed us up. Ive read some threads about reavers owning masses of units though, so im a little worried.

hold on......yea 4 certs but on the cert calculator it says 10......now I'm confused, did they change the ammount of certs in a patch? its either a goof or its something else.

But, if it is 10 now, I think you can use all the things you asked for on your first day, for 3 certs each (reinforced, engineering, and maurder) or another combo that will let you use all 10 certs, there I just used 9. Tho you say you would use the engineering thing for fixing.......correct me if I'm wrong, but would the medi cert work for that? I dunno, I may be mixed up.....

You do need a cert to drive, but not gunning or passenger. Also with a vehilce cert you automaticly get to drive the ANT (the lil refueling truck thing).

I dunno how fast/armor/etc about the maurder cuase I'm not in beta (damnit) but I guess between a Lightning and harrasser.

From what I hear with a reiforced armor I think it can only drive open topped vehicles (harrasser, basililk..), and the maurder looks like it got a big roof over head. But then I think you can gun it and/or other vehicles.

As said above, 4 or 10 certs, so loose some of that groove ya got planned.

I may be wrong, but thats how i see it.

And be worried bout em reavers. If one comes up to you with full ammo and he isn't lagging, pray that the server goes down.

D/l the movie Jet-pilot from malvision.com (http://www.malvision.com) , hell d/l everything there if you haven't already.

I am pretty sure the marauder is considered open topped, if I'm right then you can used reinforced and still drive it.

Prowler can only be driven by standard or agile if I'm correct.

Might wanna look at joinging an outfit and request to be a scout in your marauder.

Med kit is used to heal soldier's health. Engineering is used to repair soldier's armor and vehicle's armor.

You could use last 4 certs to get prowler so you could have oth marauder and prowler. unless i read wrong.

Ok, chances are if pilot armor is restricted i wont be going with reinforced.

Ive looked everywhere and i cant find info on equipment slots. Can an agile armor hold a mini chaingun (heavy assault) and a stinger (anti vehicle) and a engineer tool? Or will i need to toss the chaingun for a cycler?

You said i should watch out for the reavers. My question again: If i have a stinger can i take it down before me and my buddies get toasted? How hard is it to spot reavers?

I'll give you a brief run down.
Standard Armor (the stuff you spawn in):
1 pistol slot
1 rifle slot

Agile armor:
2 pistol slots
1 rifle slot

Reinforced:
2 pistol slots
2 rifle slots

Infiltration armor:
1 pistol slot

A mini-chaindun is a rifle sized object, that means, if you are wearing agile, you could carry any rifle sized object and 2 pistol sized object. The striker and Eng. gun are also rifle sized, so I am afraid thoose would go into you inventory (different then you weapon slots. It is where you would normally put you ammo and grenades and stuff). Most people focusing on being a pilot will have a Eng. gun to repair there craft. I would suggest carrying a backup weapon of sorts with some ammo for it. By the by, reinforced can pilot the 4-wheeler looking things and all of the assault buggys.

You said i should watch out for the reavers. My question again: If i have a stinger can i take it down before me and my buddies get toasted? How hard is it to spot reavers?

If your a good pilot, and assuming your at full health, you shouldn't have a problem taking out one soldier regardless of what hes packing. :D As for seeing reavers, they are pretty noticable (too me anyways :D) but have always been kinda hard for me to hit. Not real knowledgable about vehicles, so I will leave to specifics to the pros :D.
Hope that helps ya :o cause its tired me out and I'm going to bed:zzz:

Er, Militant, I think he was talking about inventory...
I'm pretty sure that:
Infiltrator has 6x6 squares inventory
Standard armor has 9x6 squares.
Agile has 9x9 squares.
Reinforced has 13x9 squares.

Grenades are 2x2
ACEs are 3x3
Pistols, BANKs, Med applicators etc. are all 3x3 objects.
Assault rifles and the vehicle-repair gun are 6x3 objects
Heavy assault guns and AV weapons are 9x3 objects, I think.
All ammo comes in 3x3 packs - 50 rounds of 9mm bullets or energy ammo, 40 rounds of shotgun shells.
Medkits are 2x4.
Rockets come in wierdly shaped (and big!) packages, and offer 6 rockets per pack.

You COULD carry a minichain, vehicle repair gun, and striker (AV weapon) in agile armor, but you wouldn't be able to hold practically any ammo for either weapon. 200 rounds for the minichain (Which is NOTHING for the mini) and that's if you dont carry ANY striker rockets, which are oddly shaped (4x6 or something wierd). Maybe 6 striker rockets and 100 rounds. I'd forego the minichain for the cycler with more ammo.

The CORRECT answers to all the questions.

1. You start out being able to purchase NO vechicles, you need the speicifc vech cert you want to get to be able to buy it. You you not need any certs to gun or be seated in ANY vehicles except for the ANT
Note: You get the ANT cert free when you get a vehicle cert.

2. The maurader can take quite a bit of punishment, youll prolly roll through the infanty like cutting through a cake, but you might need to patch it up after a bit of roaming.

3. You CAN drive the marauder with reinforced exo suit. It is considered an open cockpit vechile.

4. You have a problem on your certs, you HAVE TOO purchase the medium assault cert before you can get ANY other weapons cert, lucky for you thats only two cert points, for you ide get with my extra two points, combat enginering, VERY VERY usefull.

5. you start out with 4 cert points.
Note: TECHNICLY you start out with THREE cert points, since you get 1 per level and you start at level 1, thats a free cert :p

EDIT: Just to make this clear.
Closed cockpit vechicle examples, ALL AIR VECHILES AND HEAVY TANKS ON ALL FACTIONS.
Open cockpit vechicle examples, ALL LIGHT EMPIRE SPEICIFIC LIGHT VEHICLES, ALSO WRAITHS AND BASILISKS. And harraser, and the ANT :]

Marauder is open cockpit, so armor doesn't matter. In anything closed it does, but I'd still suggest reinforced regardless. As a reaver pilot, I must assume my role as ground troop whenever I am downed. You have a timer on your vehicle, so you must spend some time on foot. Unless of course you have a few vehicle certs...

Reavers are easy to spot. That's not the difficult part. We pack a heavy punch with our rocket pods, being able to fire enough rockets to smoke a MAX in a matter of seconds. I've killed all of the above in my reaver, nothing can stop one. Except a well aimed missile. But I've been practicing dodging those... thank you afterburners.
