lo all
i was just wondering how everyones pc played PS, if you could leave your spec and the fps, or your opinion on how well it plays anything would be helpful.
Hopefully will give me a idea of what i need to buy next for my pc. :D
thanks

I'm running the minimum specks set at low and having no trouble playing. I occasionally crash to desktop like everyone else and I only get lag during the really large battles. Even them I'm still able to play. Having a blast.

I play with low graphics and it runs fairly smooth until you get to a large battle, then it starts to stutter. Flying a reaver/mosquito is impossible in a large battle.
I can fly around with sanctuary with all graphics maxed with no problem, but whenever you see an enemy and the shooting begins FPS start to drop.

Please. Please. If you love the community, get a different OS. Please. If you want to run on min specs and it's working, fine. But for the love of God man, get a different OS!

I will now blast away any blame that was falsely placed during this thread.
I have no heavy lag, except when I enter a big fight, it goes away after a moment. And only problems I have had have been directly related to bugs in the game, not my system.
I have a Dell. Pre-built Dell goodness. I think pre-built is wrong word. I prefer mass produced customized system. Because after all, I did choose what I wanted in it. Isn't it the same with Falcon Northwest, Voodoo, and Alienware?
I have integrated sound. No problems as far as I can tell. I also can't see how sound can cause lag, never heard of that one before.

Condrah is right. Sound cards can make or break your gaming experience. You can have the bitchinest system, but if you got a cheap sound card your going to have problems. I think if I update mine it will remove some of the lag I get around intense firefights.
I was really worried that PS wouldn't play on my machine but I have had no trouble playing for hours with no problems.
Wohoo, just got BR6. Right now dedicated Vanu engineer, assault, AMS driver.

okay...im not a computer expert or anything like that....but i know sound cause lags...depends what u using...in my case
When I bought Battlefield 1942 I tried playing it...wow it was horrible I though my computer sucked SOO bad, then I went to the forums and they said "your computer sucks! get a new one dumbass" and then something came to my head...In EVERQUEST I was having problems when many characters on screen with all everything high and big resolution (best way to play) so I e-mailed the tech support thing and they told me after many e-mails to disable sound card...so I did....wow it worked wonderfull! so with Battlefield I disable my sound card which is really bad AC 98 I think... and dam I can play the game with all high! and big resolution! no LAG! with sound I couldnt fly an airplane because of lag...or go to battle... just be a sniper... >.<....hmm not even that lol...so evil was the sound card that I dont play game now with sound. Im getting a new one duh....but thats when Planetside is released...
oo by the way my computer is P4 1.6ghz 256 ram Geforce 4 t4200 128mb...like you can see...nothing biggy

The sound does slow the frame rate down in this PS. I guess if you have a real fast machine it will compensate, but iam using a P4 2Ghz. 384 Mb. DSL , GF MX440 64 meg.
And my PC stutters all the time whenever there is a lot of fighting.
I noticed right away though that it had a lot to do with audio, when there is actual firing, it has gotten better with the latest patches.
On a few occasions the game booted without audio, and when it does that, it runs a lot smoother.
Does OS really effect speed in the game? iam using ME.

Dude, when it comes to Window's ME, it affects everything. You'll lose friends over it. Yeah, it's that bad. If you went down to 98 you'd be sittin pretty compared to that junk.
Dude, if your sound card is killin your games, you need a new sound card. Man I must be lucky with my integrated shiznit, cuz everything rolls fine. And I WON'T sacrafice sound. Sounds are about as important as video.... well not quite.

yeah sound is really important....I hope everyone start to post sound card too >.< People that didnt know this should disable sound card and see how it works....such a difference...

2003-04-28, 12:26 AM
oo also its not only ME though....98 too because I got the problem with sound in everquest when I had 98...now I have XP same problem...every Windows I guess.

2003-04-28, 12:28 AM
It's not Window's. It's your card.
I have had no problems in XP, I like it.

2003-04-28, 12:40 AM
k....I think I didnt understand what u said heh....hmm what I though you said is that the sound card problem thing (i know mine is bad) only affects Win ME...
when every Windows can have bad fps thing with a bad sound card....
Angelos
2003-04-28, 12:43 AM
You said you have sound problem, and it follows you from windows to windows, so you said "every Windows I guess", and I was pointing out the problem wasn't windows, it was your card. That's why it follows you from windows to windows.

Athlon XP 2100+ @ 2.24 GHz
1024 PC3200 RAM
Radeon 9700 Pro

Game runs smoothly with 4x AA and 8x Anis filtering with max details @ 1024x768 and the game loads in less than 5 seconds.

AMD 950
768 SDRAM
GeForce 4 MX 420 64 MB (I know, shit card)
In a word...poorly. I can't close quarter fight worth a damn because of FPS issues, which actually doesn't bother me since I drive, fix and eventually heal things with some sniping on the side. In any case was planning on upgrading my processor and card before too long anyway, now I just have an excuse too =P

Athlon 850 mhz, 612 ram, geforce 2 GTS(32 mb), and a soundblaster live! value sound card.
I lag, and I lag hard.
If you have a computer similar to mine, and you have no plans of upgrading, do not buy the game. It is almost unplayable for me. My FPS is horrible in huge fights. I think I get about .5 FPS in the larger battles.
Small scale fights is not too bad, but not good either. It is tolerable but annoying nonetheless.

amd 1800+
radeon 9700Pro
512MB RAM
runs smooth unless there is 200 people in one fight, then I CTD like everyone else.

if I dont CTD, I'm 90% good, even in big battles.
AMD Athlon 1900+
512 RAM
G4 Ti4600
The only time i seem to lose any, and i mean any, frames is if there is a massive tower battle, that first curve coming out of the spawn tubes seems to jump (and only that first time) and then i'm off and runnin' again.
I'm runnig everything HIGH too.

Im running default settings and have yet to experience a lag problem or a slow down even in the bigger fights. Ive had the *occasional* jitter but nothing too serious.

The recent CTDs are pissing me off thou, think its somehting to do with the sound.

Running on
AMD 2000+ XP
512MB Ram PC3200
nForce mobo/sound
GeForce4 MX440 64MB(planning on upgrade)
Runs fine most of the time but I need more ram(game usually eats up to 700MB) and a better graphic card(this one sucks and it sucks bad).
My friend next door plays on
PIII 866MHz
512MB Ram
SoundBlaster Live!
GeForce2 MX400 64MB
He is running on recommended settings and it can get a little laggy but run fines most of the time.

I get the occasional CTD just like anyone. I get lag when the server is haywire just like everyone. But large battles, small I never have any problems with my comp not handling it. I have all the settings on high and everything turned on. Of course Hamma said it best... with every patch comes major improvements, heck I play AC2 and 6 months into the game they still nerf everything with their "new and improved patches". I am now a full fledged PS addict though ;)

Have you tried using a Hart? Usually have to end program the first time then restart PS before it will work.

1.2 GHz Athalon XP
256 mb DDR
GeForce MX 200
It actually plays suprisingly well (with the graphics turned down to nill :D) on my system. It lags quite a bit, but not enough to make it impossible to kill. Going to upgrade (more like replace) my computer pretty soon. The specs will be:
2.0 GHZ Athalon XP
1 gig PC3200 DDR
Radeon 9500
I think it should run swimingly on that machine :D.

I have been successful so far running it on my laptop computer:
Dell Inspiron 8200
P4-M 1.8
64 MB ATi Radeon 9000 Mobility
512 MB PC2100 DDR
The first week I played, if it was on the Recommended graphics settings, and I experienced some graphics related lag. So I switched to medium (not a big loss in picture quality) but it cleared right up.
I had a planned upgrade of the RAM (1024MB), which I went through with on Friday, and the game is now butter smooth. Even during a battle at the bridge to Gunuku on Sunday night, the graphics never came to a crawl. Now if only the SOE server didn't poo the bed, the battle would have been more fun.
