View Full Version : Incentive and fun to drive.... ?

I have recently become one of the salivating masses that will buy PS, but i have a couple questions (as most people do).

First, is it just me, or is there no real incentive or fun to being say a tank driver when you can't control any of the weapon systems (Understandably the lightning, and the secondary weapon on the Vanu tank are exceptions, but for the rest of them as well as assault buggies). I really like the idea of moving around in a vehicle, but if i'm not the one controlling the weapon systems, I don't find much fun in that. I realize i could save some cert points and just find a driver and be a gunner, but I'd like to control my movement as well.

I think this is one of the reasons why MAX's and Reavers are so popular. Should the tanks/assault buggies be changed so the driver controls the primary weapon (ala the lightning) and they need a gunner for the secondary? Or is just not the type of thing Im suited for and should stick to MAX's/1-man vehicles

Secondly, I hear about the 5 min timer on getting a MAX. Does that apply to ALL 3 types? or say if you buy an AI MAX and die in 2 minutes, can you grab your AV max? Or do you have to wait for the timer and choose one of them?

... that's just your opinion :p

Plenty of people who like working in a vehicle as a team.

How bout it could go ither way? You could do it solo, or you could get a gunner. If I remember right i heard it was going to be this way then it got changed before open beta. And to answer your question, all three MAXs have individual timers.

Thanks, Good to know because i planned on being a mostly MAX specialist. (i have a gut feeling i'll really enjoy downing reavers in an AA max).

*shrug* like i said, I'm not antisocial or anything, i love the idea of gunners in with me driving, but i would just prefer to have a gun to fire myself as well, gives me something to do instead of just dodging around :). If things stay the way they currently are i understand i could just take out a lightning or something, but from reading things it sounds like lightnings fall too easily and don't pack a good amount of fire power.

To hijack this thread just a little and pick up on that point. I also play an AA max (the VS one) and I can get my plasma balls to lock on, but they seem to do minimal damage. The clip size is only 6, and althought they fire rapidly, 12 shots are not enough to kill a reaver =/

Am I doing somthing wrong, or is it just supposed to be hard for an AA to kill a reaver ? dont get me wrong, I love playing it, and the Reavers hit there afterburners and bug out, leaving the field, which is priority number one, it would just be nice to get more of the kills =/

The only problem there would be that it would make the bigger tanks overpowered. Everyone and their dog would be a tank-driving-man.

Perhaps you could rig it so the tank guns are on a limited forward pivot, much like the lightning (Possibly even more restrictive) when you're driving alone. You could aim a little, but you couldn't swing the gun around and hit the mofo behind you - that needs a gunner. The prowler chaingun would go to the driver and remain a limited forward pivot until a third gunner comes along.
