For all factions and just the vanu (decimator vs. lancer). And in overall I mean damage, ammunition, speed, and effectiveness vs-maxs. Ive tried them in VR but I still cant decide. I'm just looking for opinions on each.

Depends on your role.

If your going to hang out in the back field and not assault, but take well timed pot shots, then the empire specific AV is the best, but if your an assault monkey then a Decimator rules all.

I don't know, depends on the battle probably close to 6-1 inf to MAX

Soldier to MAX ratio completely depends. Sometimes you get rushed by seemingly endless streams of MAXs, sometimes you only see one or two.

As for what empire specific AV weapon is the best I'd say either the Phoenix or Striker depending on the users. The striker is better for close to meduim range and the phoenix is better for long range. The lancer from all I've heard is a better AI weapon than AV though.

Yeah, recent changes to the Lancer have made it a wee bit too good at killing infantry. It's also good at killing slower moving vehicles though.

Overall, I prefer the Striker. Its homing capability is really nice.

Id say Striker is the best, just because it homes in. Then id say the Lancer, its really damaging and rapid fire. Toss up between Pheonix, Rocklet, Decimator all have pros and cons. Id pick the pheonix if i had to choose, then maybe the rocklet. However the Decimator is nothing to laugh at. Anything that kills a max in two hits is just amazing. To bad its only got 3 shots.

right now id say the phoenix isnt nearly as good as it used to be. Striker seems pretty nice right about now. And the god damn lancer is the best medium range to long range weapon around vs infantry. I have a problem losing to a lancer when im using a guass at medium range with us both crouched. thats hardcore not cool. their antivehicular weapon doubles as antiinfantry :/

Lancer is only used in a pinch as AI. its ammo is to big and to little to be used on anything but maxs, reavers, and tanks. Ok...ants are fun to kill to, but the only time ill use it on infantry is if its a sniper and i need a faster bolt.

the av max :p

I like the phoenix, but it is very hard to hit anything fast now, I used the TR one and I actually like it better for anti tank use, but I like the phoenix better for anti max/tower use since I can guide it around tops of cliffs and not be right out in the open.

As for hand-held AV weapons, assuming you have skill using all of them are as follows.

Anti-Galaxy - Pheonix
Anti-Galaxy (Hovering) - Pheonix
Anti-Mosquito - Striker
Anti-Mosquito (Hovering) - Pheonix
Anti-Reaver - Pheonix
Anti-Reaver (Hovering) - Pheonix
Anti-Tank - Striker
Anti-MAX (TR or NC) - Lancer
Anti-MAX (VS) - Striker
Anti-MAX (Indoors) - Decimator

Decimator-

I layed out a MAX tonight with one. Poor brute, just sat there and took it until he fell over. Why do I pick the decimator?

1. Lots of damage, and you don't have to carry any ammo. It fires 3 missiles then it's gone.

2. 2 other great weapons in it's class. 1 cert, 3 anti-vehicle weapons.

3. You can use this in any empire.

if i was vanu my loadout would be AMP, REK, Lancer and Lasher. Most of the inventory with lancer rounds, a few lasher ones. Vanu can have godlike loadouts. Lancer is brutal vs maxes and infantry alike and is problably the best long range gun in the game. Vs anything. And lashers are sickly overpowered too. Use the big stuff for long/medium range and pull out the amp for close range. AMP is better then all 3 assault rifles in close range.

/me sighs wishing the weapons were balanced

Playing around with my Vanu guy last night makes me totally agree with this. The added ammo makes the Lancer rawk, in my opinion, whereas previously I would be more conservative with it, so as to not waste ammunition on targets of low priority.

I got my Lancer cert the other day and I always carry one now. I have a loud out with 5 plasma nades, 1 medkit, 24 lancer shots (total), 140 pulsar shots (total), and a REK. I can hold my own in the field against a MAX and several infantry now. A full max dies in 5-6 shots (1 clip) of lancer ammo and they are fairly easy to hit with that weapon. Infatry die to my Pulsar with advanced targeting implant (awesome as well when fighting vehicles and needing to know how much its going to take to kill them).

Shooting at vehicles around bases works too because the pilots are too dumb to realize a lancer is owning them and they need to move. In short, I love my lancer! :) The Descimator looks nasty but I havn't seen it used that much.

i've only tried the lancer in VR training, it seems pretty powerful.

for now, i always have at least 1 or 2 decimators in my inventory, because they simply own :P

The lancer is a blast really, great for an AV character to take out snipers. It's accuracy and ROF are it's big advantages though. I have a locker full of these puppies and I was tagging an enemy AMS and soldiers running around it from an insane distance. If I could just get my hands on more ammo I'd be good.

Overall though the striker is my favorite AV weapon. It's biggest problem though is not being able to achieve lock because you don't have a perfectly clear shot.

Well best overall AV is still Striker, second to the Phoenix.
The Lancer is different, like in previous posts, it can kill Infantry, and do well on slow vehicle or suprising Skeeters and Reavers.
But you have to actually AIM that bugger to hit anything, and then you ahve to old the button down und aim further to use it's superior ROF, which makes it harder to use then those little rockets, but this gives its advantage in being "multi use".
btw the Striker in Dumpfire mode isn't that bas to use too, very accurate.

The striker has some serious flaws now, some bugs, some intentional nerfs. The biggest problem plaguing the striker is the fact that you cant get a lock on a target if you cant see their knees. If a target is partially obscured by terrain or a knee high rock/wall you can't get a lock to save your life. The is particularly troublesome against vanu maxes. When they jump to the top of a base wall you'll never get a lock on them because their knees are just barely covered by the guard rails of the wall. I can see 80% of their bodies and yet I cant get a lock.

The second problem with the striker is this godaweful missle lock. Nothing has hurt my kill count more than missle lock. Prior to the advent of missle lock my reaver/mosquito kills were somewhere in the order of 15 a night, now I'll be lucky to get 5 in the same exact timespan. Good maxes have learned to use the missle lock to their advantage, knowing just where to stand to avoid the striker hit. Its an aweful "feature" in my opinion.

HAVS : Fire Dump, it's accurate enough, and with louck the MAX is ignoreing you, because he knows you can't get a lock.

I hardly consider giving a missile lock warning to pilots as a striker nerf. The weapon is still just as dangerous, they just get a warning to get the hell out of town unless they want to get owned. The striker still owns outdoor MAX and even with the missile warning, you can almost always get 3 hits on reaver or mosquito (which kills a mosquito btw).

Worst case scenario you just fire 2 missiles dumbfire, acquire lock on a reaver so he has 2 missiles incoming as he gets his warning, they hit, he starts moving, and if you fire a 3rd missile, it should hit too. Anyway, I agree that I don't get as many reaver kills as I did before, but I still clear the skies of reaver threats.

Most Reavers get sloppy when they cleared the peremiter oder try to camp some doors, thats why it's easy to take them out with the lancer, till they move the 3rd shot hits them

Actually, I think that the missle lock makes it even more deadly, since you can scare a bunch of piolits away w/o even fireing a shot  I know when I see the missle lock up, I hit the afterburner and get out of there

That's probably true, lately I've just been locking and firing one missile at reavers. Nothing sucks like blowing 4 or 5 missiles on a reaver to leave you out of ammo to deal with the MAX inside the base you're attacking.
