View Full Version : Power of lag

Occasionally I get some lag when there are a couple hundred people around. It can be hard to tell when you are lagged in this but if there is a delay between your typing and its display or for doors opening, or delays when using terminals or moving your invetory it can be noticed. I have also noticed that when it gets really bad it looks like other people are lagged as they sit unmoving or running in place on my screen.

The engine works so that you always have the freedom to continue moving around your immediate space (at least as far as you can tell on your PC). It updates your actual position and everyone elses when it can of course but its the illusion that you are still playing fine. Combine this with the client side damage system and mucho fun can be had. If I am quick I can pull out my knife and run up to a few enemies and stab them a couple times while in this state. When I "un-lag" those people all drop dead from my lag attack, hehe.

Im sure I wouldnt be able to pull this off if not for the Inf suit and Melee Boost and of course I cant control when this happens. When the lag does get that bad there is a good chance of me getting dropped from the world or not "un-lagging" as well but it does have a possibility of being exploited at some point.

Anyone else noticed or done anything like this as well? Any funny lag stories to tell? I have seen some pretty odd things I could only blame on lag.

I spawned on top of another player in the spawn tubes in a tower near Gunuku yesterday and next thing I heard was a big explosion... I went through the base in the air and flew across the river and landed on the opposite bank. Lost 6 health.

Not really a lag issue...but fun.

I hate when I move behind a tree and still get hit by an enemies ammo for 1-2 seconds after. I guess it is the bad part about mixing MMO with FPS...they just can't make those servers handle all the information locally and we'll have to deal with it.

regardless, it's not that bad and I still have a a great time, except for those days when you just don't seem to be able to kill anything, or when the other side is all MAXs.

I saw a Vanguard sunk in the middle of the ocean once, dont know how in the hell it could have made it so far out. Thought maybe a bad Galaxy pilot was the culprit but then remembered they cant even carry the tanks. Also saw a hotspot way way way out to sea on the map once too. Thought about investigationg in my Reaver but was in the middle of a base capture and it was gone when we finished.
