there's already a penalty for dying on assault, it's the 30sec - 4 minute run back to the fight. Why would you penalize defenders?
--- Let us talk while we're dead.
A FPS requires the keyboard to fight. Well PS requires a lot of communication, and since the TS sounds like it's going to be dodgy for a while at least - why not let people talk while they're dead. People don't want to sit somewhere and stare at a map and a scroll bar for almost a minute.
Perhaps there should be a progressive scale system for respawns. Maybe distance from your spawn point? If I move 1000 meters from where I spawn (like I would if I was leaving a tower to cap a base) and I die, then I only have a marginal respawn time, but If I die on the stairs on the way out of the tower, then bammo 25 seconds. That's a half minute, a long time when you just got pwned, and most likely are about to get pwned again real quick.
Or have it based on time alive. If I'm alive for a period of time, have that reflect my respawn time. THere should be a window you can break - like say 7 minutes. If I can stay alive for 7 minutes there's no respawn time. That could me I was traveling to get where I was (and getting killed to respawn and keep travelling just sucks) or that I'm good. ***IF*** I'm actually good enough to last that long, then I deserve to be able to come back. Honestly, nothing in this game really rewards skill. I've heard it said that lives in this game are cheaper than sand. Now if you died right away then, you'd get smacked with say a 25-35 second respawn, but it *would* be punishment. I can hear the dead typing now - "LOL man that guy pwned me- I got ****ing 30 seconds" or "BOOYA 5 seconds baby, hail to the king!"
Honestly, I love this game, but it seems like the devs are sorta not realizing who their audience is - twitchy, impatient people who are looking for a rush. Sitting in a respawn chamber for 40 seconds- not being able to communicate is *not* that experience. Implementing this new system with a "time alive" reward system would actually reward the better players and give you incentive to stay alive. I'd fear death if I'd only been spawned for 1:20 and knew the sooner I die, the longer till I can frag again.

The chat change is planned. Now that we have VoiceIP, and there's no restrictions to when you can speak on it, there's no reason to have the chat limitations either. We're getting rid of it.
Meanwhile, we're discussing the timer changes this morning. More on that later on today.
