Sometime durring the night there was a serious issue with the electricity in my apartment.

I woke up this morning with the old "Blinking Clock" staring me in the face, and I knew that there had been an outage. No big deal I thought, but upon further review I noticed several things that gave me cause for alarm.

Both of my computers had been on when I fell asleep, and now neither one would come on. Yet the LEDs on both monitors came on indicating that there was power.

The cable modem had power, but the DSL modem did not.

The LED on my sound card was on indicating that some power was getting to my computer, but not enough to boot it up.

Then I noticed that the time on the blinking clock was "8:30". Strange because it was 8:30. The thing that makes it stranger is that I as a genral rule of thum when the power goes out the clock starts blinking at "12:00" so you can tell how long ago the power went out.

Well I went to bed at 1:00. That means the power could not have gone out 8.5 hours earlier because I was up at the time, and I assure the power was on.

To further compound my fears I turned on my room mates computer, and it started up fine. Yet neither of mine would turn on.

Half the lights in my house are now burned out.

Then poof. The power was out again.

My stero was on, but none of the LED's were lit up and a defening electic humm came out of the speakers so I know there was some power getting to them, but not enough to power the equipment.

Right now I am clinging to the slim hope that both my computers are OK, and there just wasn't enough voltage to run them, both monitors, the speaker, and both modems that are all plugged into the same surge protector.

What do you think? Is all my electical equipment fryed by this unexplained power problem? Or will everything be ok when I get home?

Fuck this sucks :(

On a brighter note I have been wanting to upgrade, and if all my stuff got fried it would provide me with the motivation I need to do it.

It's not a good sign. Unplug your power supplies and let your computers sit for a while until you are sure power is back and ok. Then plug the power back in, and try to boot up.

It seems that the dreaded computer gnomes have gotten in. Wash down your machine in 2 parts olive oil, 1 part pigs blood while waving 2 bottles of Jolt Cola in the air chanting "I am teh uber-1337 h4xor w3rd", and all shall be cured.

I hate to say it, specially cause you have TWO comps that are suffering... but it'd seem to me that they're fucked.

Not even lucid dreaming would help.

I'm not sure they work that way. Guys do, but I don't think that circuit breakers come on after being blown.

Great, Hamma's gone and we're talking about blowing C/B's.

You sure you aren't an electrician...errr...pimp?

It was just low voltage to the outlets. I got home, all the lights worked (even the ones I thought were burned out) and the computre works fine.

Nothing to see here. Please Move along.

Wow! Are those Bunnies?
