View Full Version : sphere of influence during a hack
lazy me didnt want to look for a similar post so im gonna ask on a new one....
ok, so you cannot land a droppod in a sphere of influence from an enemy basebut you can land inside your own base, but what if your base is currently being hacked. Neither side can use the facility but what happens to the sphere of influence during the 15 min hold period...does it remain the defenders? does it change to the attackers imediatly? does it become neutral where neither team can drop there? or can everyone drop there? I suppose neither team would make the most sence.

Very good question!
If you hack the other team's base than maybe you can launch a drop pod assault to overun the base!

maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that a sphere of influence belonged to the base, not the controller. I didn't think you can land a drophip inside any sphere of influence no matter who control the base. If it was specifically stated somewhere that you can select a base under your control, I missed it. Seems to me no SOI selectable simply solves the whole issue.
nope mars, you can drop into SOI's of bases you control

By Dropship, you mean Drop Pod, right?
[Edit: Which Brings me to another question. Why do we call the Galaxy a Dropship at all, since it generally launches and lands inside the atmosphere?]
dropship, transport plane.
same thing

I never heard dropship being defined as requiring to pass through atmosphere...

I dunno.
I first heard of the term in relation to Aliens, and then later in Battletech and Renegade Legion. All those guys are ships made for in-system travel and the trip to a planet after the Jump Ship (in BT, I don't know if the ship in Aliens was a Jump Ship) comes out of FTL/Lightspeed.
Does anyone call transport planes dropships IRL?

Ok I stand corrected  - then we're back to "good question" :p - I would like to know the answer to this myself.:)
maybe it needs a little bumbage....:brow:

Well, what actually happens is every 5 seconds it'll change to another Empire's - even if they're not fighting for that particular base. Then a few pink elephants will spawn and attack anything within sight. :p

My guess is during that 15 minutes, the sphere will be there but it will be neutral and NO ONE can land there. It just doesn't really make any sense if they could.

i bet the sphere drops and allows no one in it, just so no large groups of reinforcements come out of no where to change the tide of battle for either side

Actually it would make complete sense if it could. If the base is basically rendered useless you would think that the sphere of influence would be to, meaning anything or anyone could land there.

I have to agree, :stupid: , also this is sorta related and won't get answered in my other post so here is a few questions I have: (Sorry for the length)
"Ok, I know you can use those orbital drop pods (or whateverthey're called) to land anywhere, as long as it is outside of a enemy base's sphere of influence but can you bail? I know you can bail on the transports and stuff.
Now when you are in free fall (assuming you can bail), before your kinetic dampeners (kds) kick in, can you control your fall, or do you drop like a frikkin rock straight down? How high do your kds kick in?
The point is, what is to stop me from preforming a HALO jump all day long. Spawn and use the droppod, drop just outside of a soi, bail at high alt. and then control my body to land inside an enemy base?
Also, I know someone else asked this, but I can't find the thread - What is maximum altitude? Is there a ceiling? If so, apx how high is it 10,000 feet (not that high), or even higher?"
THanks a LOT

Yes it would make sense that they could land there. However, it doesn't make sense balance wise because if you hack the enemy base then a minute later every single person that was defending will be there again and you'll be screwed.

Well since the base is rendered useless doesn't that mean that they can't spawn there unless they have an AMS near it?

No, if they controlled the base, they can still spawn there. I guess it makes this even more of a challenge.

Well if that's the case I still think the sphere of influence should go down when the base is rendered useless. If the team gets their base back then it's all good at the sphere comes back up but as long as it's down there should be a window where it's vulernable to more attacks.

Or a window for defense. I think this is good. Because then bases could easily become captured. ie. cloaked hacker hacks the base, then the atatck force wipes the defense out. The base is basically captured within a very short amount of time.

Will make it hard to defend the base. That's good. Primarily defensive based games are boring. Need to have some good ol' fashioned base conquest. :D

Stupid elephants. They follow me everywhere I go.
I'd like to see the attackers get a bit of an advantage in reinforcements if they manage to challenge and take the base. The defenders get a bit of an advantage up untill that point.
