Yep, same reason Flamethrowers are in very few games. BF planned on having one but it fucked frame rates. I like to call it the frameraper

To Many Polygons to make it look good and even high end gfx cards would just go down in framerate it would be more of a LOD tool then anything else..

LOD = Lag Of Death

there was a flamethrower in this game a long time ago, but they took it out for many issues (lag being the main one) if you want to make it look good, you have to have a very high amount of stuff going on for it...

Flamethrowers usually suck in FPS's, maybe Napalm Grenades for the Thumper...?

All the reasons stated above are why we probly wont ever see smoke grenades and huge explosions ala Tribes 2 Meltdown mod (the annihilator).

This is exactly why Dave told us they took it out. THey could make an awesome looking flame effect, but the game couldn't handle it. The only way to make one the game COULD handle would be to make it look like crap, and they didn't want to do that.

flamethower seemed to work fine in "return to castle wolfenstien"

but what this game REALLY REALLY needs is wepons of mass destruction.
EVERYBODY loves those things.

there needs to be tactical chemical weapons. chem mines that can be launch via various methods. and the chem must persist for minutes.

and lets not forget small tactical NUKES. ohhhhhhh yeaaaaaa

i am getting the shivers now. all the destructions and chaos.
and in a nice safe virtual setting.

commanders should get the NUKE's option.

chemical ordinance should be entrusted to an "NBC" certification.

then there needs to be electronic warfare that messes up enemy communications or even spys on enemy communications (chat)

that would rock. you would park your EC truck on a hill and spy in on communications at a base.

there are tons of things they could do. that if they just do it.

Weapons of mass destruction? Oh dear, that just doesn't sound like any fun at all. Nothing can stand up to a nuclear weapon, and you don't even have to be at all close to a person with one to kill them. Where's the challenge in that? Where's the fun? As far as WMD go, no thanks. Besides, any sort of huge explosion like that is going to obliterate terrain, and as far as I know well over 95% of the people that are going to play this game don't want that.

The reason there is no flame thrower in the game is because handling one awsome looking flame thrower (ala Unreal2) is fine. But if there were 200 people in a battle using that flamethrower, your computer would spontaneously combust. This is the same reason that the explosions are so fast and rather mediocre looking. Again, one explosion = ok. Several hundred at once = dead computer.

Does plasma set squads of people alight and send them running round in a blaze of fire unable to see anything whilst slowly dying?
