View Full Version : Vehicle Hijacking...

Strygun

OK, I just thought of this, it might've been asked before...

Lets say an NC soldier is driving his harasser around, and he gets out and goes and fights. A TR solider comes up and hijacks his vehicle and heads back to base. What prevents other TR from opening fire on him? (They will see the blue and yellow colors on the car and open fire..hence getting an accidental TK...)

Thanks for the info to come =)

the vehicles change colors when hacked.

2002-12-17, 10:41 PM
how long does it last? the vehicle , that is. until it gets blown to hell?

Strygun

incom, immediately?

Whoracle
2002-12-17, 10:42 PM
you have to HACK a vehicle to use it? shouldnt you just be able to hop on and ride off into the sunset...

and will this game have friend/foe indicator icons like in Tribes...

Incompetent
2002-12-17, 10:45 PM
as soon as your finished i believe, and yes you have to hack an enemy vehicle to use it, do you leave your car keys in the car?
Edit: the vehicle stays until it dies.

Whoracle
2002-12-17, 10:49 PM
i wouldnt think this game had keys in it....therefore no need for hacking.

just hop in. i didnt think players "turned off" their vehicles.

Strygun
2002-12-17, 10:52 PM
There are no keys, I think he was just using a general term...

Whoracle
2002-12-17, 10:53 PM
come to think of it that would add some depth. u could choose to "turn off" your vehicle or leave the ignition on...for quick hop out, do ur duty and hop in, you wouldnt turn it off

but for longer missions, ones you may not survive, you could turn it off and force someone to have to spend time hacking it.

and if its a mission where you go in...do soemthing...then run back, you could opt to leave it running for a quick getaway, but risk having to "restart" the vehicle if you turn it off

Why would ever think of putting a security system in there tank in a war, i don't know where the devs got that kind of idea. I mean, most people like having there equipment stolen.

You have to *HACK* an enemy vehicle to *STEAL* it. Once you have done so it will change to your teams colours. Gives rise to the question of can you jack and drive off a faction specific vehicle? If so, in theory at least, after a while there would be a certain amount of cross faction vehicles rolling around. Interesting.

*edit* too slow on the reply button eh? ;)

Whoracle
2002-12-17, 10:59 PM
that sucks.... if you hack a vehicle it should stay that factions colors but you should be able to recognize the player....

that way they could cause havoc in the enemy base b4 they realized what was happening.

like real battles

Strygun
2002-12-17, 11:01 PM
LOL, yeah, but it interferes too much with the TK system..

I mean, if you're guarding an area, are you going ot wait to see if an enemy car is driven by your team? No, you're gonna blow it to pieces immediatly...

Hamma
2002-12-17, 11:01 PM
This isnt tribes haha, its an MMO - yes you need to hack vehicles. The bigger the vehicle the longer it takes to hack. The advantage is you can sometimes get your hands on vehicles that your empire DOES NOT have.

Yes they change color - and it stays like that unless someone else hacks it. Also, if you hack a buggy, you or someone in your squad needs a buggy cert, if u hack a lightning tank, someone in your squad needs a lightning tank cert.. etc etc. You cant just gank anything you want to

Which eliminates the possibility of jacking any of the faction specific vehicles...

kind of like what would happen in a real warfare situation UNLESS SOMEBODY BOTHERED TO NOTIFY THEIR TEAMMATES

you see blackhawk down? ***** almost killed a friendly unit cuz of no communication

Eliminates jacking of other factions vehicles? I think you read it wrong, you CAN jack another factions vehicles, you just need the driving/piloting cert to use it to make it useful, i assume you could hack all the vehicles u wanted w/o driving away with them just so the enemy has to hack back into them to use them.

Hatte,

*faction specific* vehicles : not talking the common pool ones ;)

Check out our certs page:
http://www.planetside-universe.com/content.php?p=sdCertInfo

Enforcer/Marauder/Thresher
Depending on which empire you belong to, this "assault buggy" certification lets you drive one of either the two-man heavy buggy, three-man assault buggy, or two-man hover buggy (respectively).

So, if you have the enforcer cert, u can drive the marauder or thresher as I understand it.

cut'n'paste from psu cert faq:

Sounds to me that you only get the cert for YOUR factions vehicle?? anyone clarify this? Allthough dont get me wrong it would be interesting to be able to do so :)

Hamma
2002-12-17, 11:19 PM
It could mean either - I am just assuming because they grouped them like that.... and they have said you can jack empire specific vehicles. Need dave to drop by :p

Hmm, yes I am confused as well, the buggy cert mentions being only able to drive your factions vehicle, but the hvy tank does not, could use some clarification pls.

B00tlegbob
2002-12-17, 11:21 PM
yes, that would be the berries!! Its great really that there is so much known about ps, but in reality we only know the high level info.... all the nitty gritty is still there for each of us to discover in game for ourselves

Cheers

can you acquire other factions certs after killing them??

pickup ammo + certs off dead bodies?

Hatte
2002-12-17, 11:24 PM
a certification is not a piece of paper but training, what you're talking about would be similar to picking up a drivers licence and immediatly knowing how to drive.

afex
2002-12-17, 11:25 PM
certs aren't physical, its like knowledge.

but you can loot weps/ammo

If you get out of your vehicle and you die and you spawn back at your base and then you spawn a new vehicle, if no one has hacked it will it dissappear or will it stay. If a bunch of people keep dying out of their vehicles the stray vehicles might make some interesting cover or maybe even sniper bait.

no. im learning everything the hard way

Hatte
2002-12-17, 11:34 PM
The game is complicated thats why I am so interested in it, i've been playing TFC/quake games for many many years and I am very bored of the same thing over and over again, PS will hopefully be that new game that peaks my interest for a very long time.

:stupid: agreed!
This game has piqued my interest far more than any other game in a good long while.

Didnt i read somewhere that if you spawn a vehicle you cant spawn another for 'x' amount time?

*edit* doh that was supposed to be under hattes post :(

Too lazy to find it but a dev(most likely Smokey) stopped by and said that there will be class certs so yeah if you learn the buggy cert you get all the buggies.

If not hacking becomes useless. Why hack something you can already get? :)

oh, I have MANY questions, though suprisingly none are about us being purple...

most are like "DAMN SHEZ HOT!"

and "planetside...planetside...planetside..."

or "Earth and Beyond....Earth and Beyond....Earth and Beyond...."

well, they may not be questions, but you see how my mind works

Life's little questions......

Why do peanut butter and jelly sandwiches always land pb down?
Why do cats always land on their feet?
Why then when you put peanut butter on a cat's back and throw it off the roof, it hovers inches off of the ground instead of picking a side to land on....waitaminute...vanu hover, cats hover..... Anyone see a connection? So either cats are all vanu or all vanu are pussies (I'm really sorry, I couldn't resist.)

I put the bread on the cat PB side down, and he hit so hard he red misted. :( Poor Fluffies!

I saw a few people commenting that vehicles will stay until destroyed? Seems to me they'd have to despawn after a certain amount of time, other wise you'd risk having unused vehicles all over the place sucking up server cyles?

Hamma

They stay for a while, I suspect when the owner dies they have a short timeout then dissapear
