After yesterday's report that PlanetSide will launch in North America on May 20, Games Xtreme. has some information on the release of PlanetSide around the world. PS Fan's from the UK can expect PlanetSide on the 23rd of May.

Ubi Soft Entertainment, one of the world's leading video game publishers, today announced an exclusive agreement with Sony Online Entertainment to publish the eagerly awaited PlanetSide in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Quebec and Japan. Currently in development, the game is the first massively multiplayer online action game that allows literally thousands of gamers to play at the same time.

Its global release on PC CD-ROM is scheduled for the week debuting May 19, 2003, with the UK release date scheduled for May 23, 2003. European gamers will benefit from a server that is based in Amsterdam, thus providing great service with regards to connection and customer support. PlanetSide's developer, Sony Online Entertainment, has made good use of the wealth of experience it has gained from its previous title EverQuest. With over 430,000 subscribers worldwide, EverQuest is one of the most successful online multi-player RPG in the world today.

Guys, at the rate that the beta is going at, that release date will be a falsity. I'm in the beta and they're not only working on many balancing issues, but also crashing issues. I don't think they would release a game where you crash on spawn, or fall through the world (through the ground). Also there are many graphical bugs and features that are going to be in the game that they still haven't given to us beta testers. If anything, the game would prolly be ready to go in June or July.

I'm sorry, but they are not gonna go this far with press releases, events, previews and more. Then retract it, that would be a horrible disaster.

hamma, thanks for doing more than just saying no :P

i understand what your saying, i know they've made an official statement about the games release as well, but if they cant get it stable enough they're not gonna release it on that date, and in just my opinion which is all it is, it's prolly not gonna be released on the day they say it will, maybe early june if not may, july would be pushing it a bit too far back. but anyway, this is just my observation.

i guess the bugs can be worked out before the release date though now that i think of it, being that SWG is on the same graphics engine and thats where the mojority of the crashes are coming from. oh well ill just stop there, dont wanna start babbeling

(also, there have been games that have been pushed past the sched. release date [that almost happened to everquest but didnt] and did happen to one of blizzard's games)
