View Full Version : AMMO TYPES... a solution?

I have no idea if or how much this has been discussed, and I do not care. These are my thoughts...
While the intentions were good, I find it lame that AP ammo is crappy against flesh. We have flesh ammo and AP ammo. In reality, an AP round still does ALOT of damage to fleshy targets. I have a simple solution...
Have standard ammo that is the same size ammo box. 4 grids.
Standard ammo would be poor against hard targets (MAXs,
vehicles)
--and--
Have AP ammo that is larger. 6 grids.
Good against both.
The flesh ammo would still have it's place for those who want to carry ALOT of anti-infantry ammunition, and those wishing to have AP would have 33% less ammo. This would feel even more cumbersome for anyone who carries other types of equipment as well. But this flesh ammo and AP ammo is ridiculous.
I will post this as a pole.

Ug people do not understand, planet side wasnt made to behave like the real world ok? Its made so that the gameplay is balanced. The key here is that ITS A GAME!

Unfortunately, how do you fit two size caliber ammo in a single size calibar chamber?
I'm assuming they are different sizes since they take up a different grid sizes.
I totally agree with you on the point that regardless of ap and non-ap, it's devastating to fleshy target.
I would rather see the end of non-ap rounds all together.

Unforetunately your response brings this to mind 1st. NO DUH, IT'S A GAME. And balance is the most important factor. But the current 2 ammo types just doesn't sell in my book. While fiction, it is best to stick to reality, even if it's fictional reality (futuristic, hovercraft, etc.) it still should make sense.
But thank you for your useless reply anyways.:p

The fact that they occupy more or less space on the grid doesn't necessarily mean they are different sizes. The grid may represent other factors in a soldier's ability to carry gear, such as weight. The AP ammo being denser (heavier), could be why you could carry less.

That's rational.
Still, I say the ap and NON-ap rounds should do the same damage to fleshy target. But I'm stubborn that way.
*Wonders how heavy that makes those medkits?!*

What are u talking about? U just said that balance is the most important factor. Then u went off and said that its best to stick to reality in a fictional game. The point of two diffrent ammo types is that a soldier cannot damage both infantry and armor (that is light armor like a harasser not a friggen prowler). Its the same with the MAX armor (the exception being the TR max which wasnt really a good idea). I dont know why people are pissing and moaning about the games key features 13 days before release. If you dont like what the devs did with the game DONT PLAY! You people want to add mechs to the game. You wanna make things more powerfull than the tank, and then when asked the question whats the point of having a tank then u have no reply. You really should look into y the devs made the game like they did. Not trying to be an asshole to all the nice noobs out there but someof them really should read a god damn FAQ or do a post search. I havnt been able to keep a good discusion going for more than a day because it gets bumped down with new posts about stuff already answered.

AP rounds will go straight through flesh, without doing any extra damage. (yes, I know that being shot is huge damage, but bear with me) They are designed to penetrate armor, so when they come into contact with flesh, they just punch straight through it and out the back.
Standard rounds, on the other hand, don't just punch through. I'm going to go with the idea that they are using hollowpoint rounds as standard, just for the sake of argument. When the hollowpoint hits flesh, it will expand, thus ripping a larger hole in you than an AP round will. Also, because standard rounds are not designed to pierce armor, they don't leave the body as often, instead bouncing around, ripping your insides apart. I'm not sure what type of bullet they are claiming is their standard round, but that's basically how I look at the situation.
AP rounds can pierce armor, but just punch straight through flesh.
Standard rounds don't punch through armor, but they either expand upon contact or bounce around inside the body, which does more damage.

That's all true, I know.
But when you're hit with 20 AP rounds, even if they go straight through, the extra damage done by non-ap doesn't mater one bit.
Now, if say I can kill a flesh target with two non-ap rounds (due to the expansion of the bullet and the ricochet inside the body by fragemtation), I'll be happy. But sadly, that ain't the case.

Your right, AP ammo would also be effective against troops in real life. But also, in real life, that gigantic shell that the boltdrive fires would go straight through a vanguards engine block!! It is a simple issue of balance. :)

i like the idea but you know what :duh:
the ap ammo thing was explained.
it is like a future paint ball filled with armor eating liquid that does nothing to flesh.
it devours metal and armor at a rate never seen before but unfortunately does nothing but leave a welt on the skin.
i voted for the change since it would be more REALISTC.
(theres that word again)
can someone PLZ tell me what this emote is supposed to meaN?

I won't vote, but I'll give my opinion. Here it is, the different types of ammo are there for balancing reasons, would YOU really want a gun that could tear through both humans and armor at the same time? It sound good if your BEHIND the gun, but if your on the wrong in a MAX, for example, and run into a Mini-chaingunner with these new bullets...your gonna get your nuts ripped off faster than you can blink. I don't think they should null ammo types, perhaps adjust damage, but not deleting.

Not only do I support the current system based on it's pseudo realism But I support it because game balance is king.

True but as long as we're getting everythign real why do soldiers have two states, either alive and fighting or dead and respawning, why is there no broken legs no bleeding out, why can aircraft just sit there and take multiple shots from a tanks cannon that are VTOL based (think about the physics of it, even if we take space age armor into account. We could sit there and debate realism for days and days at a stretch the simple fact of the matter is it's a game balance issue just get used to it amigo, you cant have everything. Having said all that I whould like to see the point requirements on AA and AV weaponry lowered or their damaged upped to a one or two rocket kill on a max and one rocket on any aircraft except the galaxy. Also if i run over a wraith and guy on it with my sunderer he and his bike should be toast, same goes for any open topped buggy.

I understand the balance issue. It's just a personal thing. I love playing the grunt is all. :) I just want an advantage, dammit!
I know they'll never get rid of non-ap. I just carry favorite loadouts (ie. Punisher Hard/Rockets, Punisher Soft/Rockets, & Punisher Soft/Area (plasma)). I also always carry 2 medkits for that little advantage of going toe-to-toe.
This is only until I get the Reinforced Exosuit. Then I just carry both types of ammo plus meds.
