View Full Version : Probably a stupid question

Ok, I know you can use those orbital drop pods or whatever to land anywhere, as long as it is outside of a enemy base's sphere of influence.

Does your droppod actually drop or do you just *appear* where it was supposed to of landed?

If it does drop, its it attackable? I'd assume so, but I'd think it would be hard to hit. However, if it is- can you bail? I know you can bail on the dropships and transports and stuff.

Now when you are in free fall (assuming you can bail), before your kinetic dampeners (kds) kick in, can you control your fall, or do you drop like a frikkin rock straight down? How high do your kds kick in?

The point is, what is to stop me from preforming a HALO jump all day long. Spawn and use the droppod, drop just outside of a soi, bail at high alt. and then control my body to land inside an enemy base?

Also, I know someone else asked this, but I can't find the thread - What is maximum altitude? Is there a ceiling? If so, apx how high is it 10,000 feet (not that high), or even higher?

Thanks

Your drop pod falls from the sky you don't just appear. If you had any other questions I didnt read them because the post was too long and my head started to hurt. I don't think you can bail from a drop pod.

Yes, I have heard that the droppod can be attacked. Probably going to be needing some very fast weaponry in order to be able to hit it and take it out before it lands though :)

I bet you cannot dive out of your droppod until it lands. Not sure though :(

And I have not been able to get an answer on how the KDs work either. Do you just land and take no damage, or do you float on down?

I think you just drop. They won't slow you down I don't think.

oh man that would be cool if you could bail early....it would be best if you took dmg depending on how hard you hit.

if its a short dropp, the KDS just absorbs impact. if you fall from like 25ft you take a bit of dmg...

anything more it increases how much dmg you take....preventing HALO jumps into base =)

I want halo jumps damnit! All part of my ultimate strategy as a pilot. :brow:

i'm pretty sure that the KDs dont act like parachutes, they just absorb your impact.

and i'm doubly sure that you dont control yourself during freefall. straight down you go.

it WOULD add a little more depth and strategy to the game.

do you take some damage in order to get better position and hopefully not get reamed right away?

or do you keep all your health and have a longer hike and risk getting seen b4 u make it to destination

Yeah, see I was hoping for a 20000 foot ceiling with a realistic fall rate, so that you could get a troop ship full of guys, have em all bail, and then controlled free fall down, for the ultimate HALO assault. Those guys could take out the turrets and then my SWAT team could hit all of the building simutainiously with rroof top landings, for a total battle time of 20 mins, including hacking. O well.

that would be rediculous

You know, whoracle, for a guy who has had seizure inducing pics, and now a possessed throck flopping around as a picture, i don't think you're really a qualified authourity to talk about what is ridiculous (which is like your rediculous, right ;) ) HAH!

:p :p :p

Well here is a pic with what I asume is a drop-pod. He seems to land pretty close to the base on the other side...

Look where he's falling... he's going to end up on the other side of that river. Still pretty far from that base so... :brow:

it looks to me like there is no way someone could hit the drop pods. But where and when you land may be a problem. Anyone know how accurate they will be?

They will be pretty accurate. Unfortunately you're limited to where you can land as far as proximity to bases is concerned. :)
