what
Actually, in VS on Markov we were fighting over a technology plant against the TR, and, I crap you not, I got disconnected the INSTANT we started winning (How we did that against a small army of cyclers, I'll never know)

Maybe its just cause I have fiber optic net, dunno I very rarely have lag and if I do I think it is mostly video lag from lots of action going on.
edit: This fight was on Johari (W), on Ishundar for tech plant Girru.

Same here, Jarlo. I have wireless internet - not as fast as cable or DSL but hardly ANY lag. Just a bit now that they've let the memory leaks back into the game. It seems to be working extremely well from a mechanics point of view... ;)

Blue - wireless is actually working out for you? That's pretty impressive. In most areas around the U.S., wireless gaming is the suck because of its myriad of interferences. You're lucky to be dealing with whoever you're dealing with.

I used to use wireless
Oh boy, was that awful. I eventually had to drill a hole through the wall to connect my machine to the main router

ok...
our IT guy is in charge of over 100 machines at least.
so you got 2 IT guys keeping the 200 machines running for a year.
gig ethernet on the local lan between them.
housing costs nothign depending where you buy the land. (it's just a sever room). ever see that commerical where the guys buy land in texas for cents per acre?
internet access is the biggest cost.
all the rest of the cost should be covered in that 60 immediate buy. if sony cant pay for it's R&D with a 60 dollar game then they are bloated and the R&D budget is too large.
and if they need more money they can do what they did in the past with eq. release game after game after game of sequels at 50 dollars each.
you want to fight on the new planet or realm? well guess what...your subsription aint going to pay for that....you are going to have to pay for the expansion pack just like in EQ.
in a polite world the subscription should pay for the server maintenence and thats all but sony is greedy and is going to charge as much as you are willing to pay and that is 12.95.
not includign the orginal cost of 60 dollars and the frequent expansions that will cost 50 each.

You may be surprised to hear this, but Sony is a company
Guess what companies are trying to do? Make money. How do they make money?
Right.

yea.......it aint the same anymore. not like the good old days where video games where a lot friendlier and the big companies scoffed at video game software as kids games not worth of big business. before they realized the video game industry made more money than the movie industry.
i've been in this field for quite a while. i know how much it would cost me to implement a server farm for a game like this.
i just feel that it can be done alot cheaper.....but i would not be as rich as sony either.
if i was working for sony they would be happy to hear how cheap i could make it......it would not change the subscription fee though.
charge as much as a person is willing to pay for it....no mater how cheap it was for you to make that product. It just annoying to see so many kids willing to blindly pay that much. I wish they where as hardcore in hagling prices down as they are in playing the games.

It's cheap and it's an effective source of entertainment, there's no problem with people paying less than the cost of a movie ticket for some friday night fun

That would also argue that you only go to the movies once a month and on a good month I may go 4 or more time at $9+ a ticket then inflated candy and soda prices, factor in gas, and then you only get 1.5 - 3 hrs. of entertainment. Trust me this game is a bargain compared to a movie ticket.

I too live in Canada and 20$ is nothing to spend at the movies.
PS is cheap, cheap, cheap.

Ok. Please break down the exact costs of everything. Now.
Please bear in mind that the 4 (?) servers currently running for beta are probably half of what will be up for release. So, make that 200 machines on release day. If the game is popular, 400 machines 6 weeks after that. Let us know how cheap it is.

On a previous note...
Wireless works fine for me now, though there were problems aplenty at the beginning - bad WAN signal and high latency. We eventually solved that using a new type of technology - a wall-plugged ethernet bridge per computer that sends the wireless signal from the router through the powerlines and through ethernet cables. Only getting appr. 450kbps but low lat. gameplay and steady signal :)
