Now that most of us have had some gametime, and you really dont have an excuse not to try the game (FilePlanet Public Beta) what do you think of it? Are you going to buy/subscribe? Or are you going to make your way out of the community and find another game?

I always hated that place, first themake a fileplanet exclusive movie, then they start giving away free PS, one catch though
You can start the download, But itll be a miracle if it finishes!

I'm addicted to PS. I hope i won't end up like that one EQ addict that shot himself after realizing that he had no life outside of Everquest...
Planetside is my god... at least until something else grabs me :p :D

I'm not going to continue with the game
As a FPS its pretty good
as an RPG type game its not very good at all
I prefer RPG type games , and for me, there just isn't a whole lot of replayability in the game
there's only so many ways to frag someone in a game like this, and because of the faster paced action i think a lot of the social aspects of the game are less developed
that's just my 2 cp tho
What I'm really waiting for, is something to come along that inpires the dedication, and insanity that Everquest did when it 1st came out
There has been NOTHING since EQ that's come out that's been anywhere near as addicting

At first I didn't think I would enjoy a FPS game because I was too old and my 'twitch' skills I had from playing my Intellivision and Atari in my youth have faded but I really am having a good time playing. I die a lot because I'm not as quick as some but I don't get my squad killed due to stupidity and I keep a level head on the battlefield when things go bad.
One thing that gets me though is it is virtually impossible to go /afk in the game unless in a sanctuary and not be afraid to come back and find myself dead. This isn't good for me since I have small children and one of them is still in diapers.
On the whole though, I really like this game and will continue to play it. Of course I never intend to be uber or 1337 so I can still play and fail and not get too worried about it. How long I keep my subscription active will be based on my experiences post release and whatever changes the devs have planned for the game in the long term.

Thats the first person ever to want to pay more for the game then they are charging. Now im just confused.
Anyway, ill be playing PS for as long as i can. I like both RPG and FPS games, but obviously FPS more. With the fast pace and intense large scale battles im more then satisfied, but match that up with classing (Max, infil, medic, eng, grunt, sniper, AV) and ive got enough role play to keep me addicted for awhile. Sure its not EverQuest RPG, but its enough.
Currently playing a TR infil with a repeater and advanced hacking. This is so much fun lol.

7 month old here! I moved from Tribes 2 to Asherons Call 2 just because of that reason. Now Im playing PS for the pure joy of it. I don't care about levelling (did that in AC2), i don't care about practicing and training my skills for top level competition (T2)....im just here to get a couple kills each night with people who don't care when i get up for 5 minutes at a time in the middle of huge battles.

In my opinion, the $15/mo. is going to turn some away. From a development standpoint, they don't need $15/month to patch their bugs and balance issues. Other one-time games do that. So that makes it $15/month for infrastructure and bandwidth. You figure they can share network engineers and bandwidth with their EQ datacenter, so there's more of the cost.
In short, amazing game, but I'll need to see if it's worth the $15/month after my BR plateaus and there's no new content. It's worth a few months fer sure.

I finished paying off my usual, slow incrimental preordering process last week for this game, so um, yeah it'll be oining my other software on the ol' CD rack. I have been hearing the complaints about lack of replayability, because of it's somewhat repetitive take base-lose base, retake base nature.
But... :o
Then I remember just how many times I've blasted through Quake II's cooperative "/"""story""!/" mode, and had a blast every single time because it wasn't just blowing away the same enemies over and over.. it was having a grreat time doing it with my friends... It's seriously got to be up over 100 times.
THAT is what makes the difference I think, and so long as not everyone in the universe hates my ass, and I have good fellows to fight along side, I will probably be playing this for quite a while.
I'll be paying through game cards, since i'm not one of those people who trusts themselves enough to have a credit card ^_^;
So i'll see you on the battlefield.. heh.. from the sky, that is. ;D

Either thats not really your system, you have something wrong with your system, or your settings are too high
If you install XP Pro fresh, update to latest drivers and then install nothing but PS and it still has that problems then somethings wrong with your shit or you need to fix the settings.
When i first started playing I was running:
P3 650 Mhz
Geforce 4 Ti4200 128 MB
512 MB PC100 RAM
ATA 100
SB Live Value
Win XP Pro
and i had great FPS most of the time (on low mind you) if you really need High detail settings *shrug* get a better system.
Now im running a 2.4 Ghz and i still run on low. But I'm just not into graphics, i want something fun and playable, which is what it is *shrug*

Of course I'll play it for awhile... Then again, we know there are just so many other games currently out that are this kewl.
For now, it looks to be a very good game. If the devs ever break teh Vow of Vanu Silence and actually give us reasons as to why they h8 them so and actually begin to take steps in correcting that, then who knows? I might be playing for a long time indeed. :D
While the game experience right now is akin to an extremely fun FPS, I'm going to pay because Sony offers persistence, which means I will have stable pings, assured uptime, and reasonable (read: it exists) customer service. Totally apart from the major draws of planetside, it offers a unique service that I'll pay 13 a month for alone.
I also believe that the players will, in time, make it into an entirely unique FPS experience to add to the unique environment.
As an additional note, I think the results of this poll thusfar have put the abrasive, vocal detractors somewhat into perspective.

Well Planetside is good, but not $13 a month good. I know the logic behind it, I keep telling myself it is, but in comparison to what you get from an MMORPG for $13, and what you get from this for $13, it just doens't compare. It truly doesn't.
Does that mean I won't play it? No, it just means that if I start growing tired of it I am more likely to cancel my account. Hell, I still have my DAoC account although I barely play, and UO accounts from ages ago.

Considering the state of the FPS market. (Either seems to be sequels or unorginal ripoffs) Planetside is not only a breath fo fresh air. It a jolt of pure energy and fire, shaking the genre with something they didn't think was possible. And maintain fun at the same time.
50 bucks? Hell I can earn that doing odd jobs for a week. $13? Working for about a weekend. 9 days of work for gaming bliss?

People need to get themselves out of the MMORPG mentality, this is a different type of game. It should be taken as such, if you do the same thing over and over again in this game you only have yourself to blame. Start planning things on the large scale, get alliances going. Thats when this game truly pays off. The large scale warefare.

I am seriously liking the sound of the snipers in this game, as well as the commaders. I've always wanted to be a commander giving orders and making battle plans and such...

Yes, I'll be buying it.
However I'm going to wait until a UK - or at least Euro - server is up and running and that I'll have enough UK players to hook up with.
When I do buy it'll probably cost me around 25 and so I'm willing to spend 45-55 total to get 3-4 months gaming out of it.
I reckon that's enough money to guage the longevity of the game, but not so much to be frivolous (games are expensive anyway).

Why don't they lower the initial cost to lure more gamers so they can become addicted? Do they not want too many new players all at once?

I will not for the first few months be playing this game.
My reason being that communication and lack of RPG elements.
After a month of paying people having had a chance to populate the world. I can hope that the level of quality of the players will increase and the overall communication will be honed to a usefull state.
I also realize that there are no strong commanders present because of the current Beta setup. This, I am going to look forward to with great intrest. The ability to have a structured command in place will make or break this game.
Yes as a FPS it is good. It is visually stunning taking into consideration the scope and size of the maps, but this is no substitute for the lack of leadership found right now.
Right now I feel as if I am taking an active part of a large crazy rioting mob that happens to be VERY well armed. And as with all riots they fall apart without leadership. I hope that Planetside does not fall into a perpetual state of players just running around
shooting each other for the sake of shooting each other.
Which will bring me to the goals. Painly, there are too many bases. each land mass has everything you need. We as an army are just too well fed. Make us hungry for something unique, not just the landscape that surrounds our fourth Bio Lab.
Sollution ( I'm gonna catch hell for this one :-)) Take the Galaxy station away from the home Sancturaries. Plus have a unique station or weapon or vehicle on each continent. That device only works on that one land because blah blah blah..whatever.
This may make us really WANT to acheive a goal because if we had this "wigit" we could make a new armor or weapon or whatever.
Yes I will be playing this game; in September and hoping I see changes that could really make this the great game it could be.

A month or two after release this game will be totally different, people will have command rank, and start getting more involved in large scale attacks. Everyone misses that fact right now, we are in beta, people are just messing around. There is no real coordination at all
In all honesty, I havent decided yet.
Anymore I only have a very limited budget as far as gaming and the like. PS is definitely on the list but I have one other "beta" I recently was admitted to...or that is, will be if the UPS idiot decides to actually deliver the thing like he was supposed to last week. I just want to check that out with as much ferocity as I entered PS and give it the long awaited shot its due.
I'll decide from there. PS is very high on the list right now however. In fact its in the #1 spot.
We'll see how well the much touted (removed due to NDA restriction) turns out in comparison. Either way, even if I decide I can't afford PS AND something else right now...doesn't mean I'll be leaving this place. If anything I'll be watching both of them closely to see what changes come in after release and the response from the rest of the planet in as far as fun factor.

I acturally haven't had a chance to play the game. Due to the firewall at my Uni in the way. Personally I am a FPS lover. I have been searching for a game that need co operation to achieve targets. But so far, most of them, ppl just wonder off to do what ever they want. Thanks to PS. I will have a chance to play a great team playing game. (once I got out of this shit hole).
I don't really mind paying for a little for a monthly subscribtion. Atleast I know that someone is taking care of server, ping, and anticheat for me. I hate the most of FPS game, is when someone is really good, farged alot of ppl, and don't die a lot. It is being called cheater (or he really is cheating). And ping is another very important issue for all gaming. I hate bad ping sever to play on. just hope that SOE will make a good effort to maintain as minnum ping as possible for Europe player as well as USA.

Pre-Ordered from the Station.... playing for sure. I am with Hamma, this game has not even begun to flex it's muscles. Once we get some good commanders in place and things get more organized, the game will really shine. First few weeks or so I will be building my characters up, then start to look for a very well disciplined, fun, smart outfit to join. Makes me smile just thinking about the carnage to come

I'm still undecided. There are still a lot of things about the game I like, and there are still things that tend to make me lose interest.
I definitely want to see more coordinated attacks. Unfortunately, the community of gamers that I came into Beta with have all lost interest and don't play anymore, so when I get on I just hook up with random squads. And all these squads are really just experience collectives, with the only coordination being what base to attack. Then as soon as the action starts, it always degenerates into an every-man-for-himself mob battle.
Maybe if I can find a decent outfit, I'll stick around for longer. I'm definitely not addicted to the game anymore, but I still enjoy the basics of the gameplay, even though there is a lack of variety in your objectives.

I have to say after playing for the last few weeks.. and then pretty much literally all this weekend. I have to say that it was initially tons of fun. But I just don't think capping the same five bases over and over and over vs the same opponents on different continents is gonna hold my intrest past beta. I mean, its a great team game, and fun. But Locking doesn't really make a difference as it is lost as soon as it is gained and really no matter how many battles you win, the war doesn't seem to go anywhere.
Of course HAMMA had it right, and that this game will most likely be very different in a couple of months. Most people will be in the High BRs and not caring as much about jumping to the next hack for cap xp and more concerned with the overall campaign.
But I'm just not seeing this game being worth the monthly fee for me.. just my opinion tho.
Hamma

Whats the difference between capping the same base over and over, and playing the same CS, or Tribes level over and over?
Capping bases here has an effect for your entire empire, and your enemies. People are just thinking of it as some kind of solo experience. Think of it on the global/empire level.

A better example would be Battlefield 1942, where there are a lot of maps with a great deal of variety between them. This is a variety that IMO is sorely lacking in PlanetSide ... of course the game compensates in other areas ... but I guess I just want more!

The mom is nearly as much of a looney tune as her kid was (no surprise). Since she is on a lawsuit, she has made a big point of not mentioning the fact that her son was neurotic, depressed, borderline schizophrenic (which is NOT MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES), and didn't take his meds.

well on May 15th im going to be getting Enter the Matrix so ill be pretty busy with that but again with PlanetSide, it doesnt seem to hold my interest at most times, it takes about an hour to get to a fight but it may end fast, ill probably buy planetside later on when there is an expansion pack out with it and an online community is formed so im going to beat Enter the Matrix and then check on PlanetSide unless a more interesting game comes out, but most of the ones that seem good are coming out in Q3 or Q4...

Well I must admit by some of the early comments i thought great this is looking good and seems like planetside is gonna be popular. then it all fell apart by comments like the one above.
well if we all wait til an expansion comes out (is there one planned) then the game will not take off, there will only be a couple of servers and the game will be dead by the time the expansion comes out. get your hand in your pocket.
Think about it this way everyone is saying about ooo the monthly payment i dont wanna pay it thats too much and such like, well if your playing any other first person shooter and want to become part of a squad/team/clan/community at some point you need to maybe assist the payment of a server, YES there is public servers, but usually full of cheats (no matter what the game) This game is gonna be updated every so often, you get to play on servers with 100's or 1000's of people at one time, the different weather effects are unreal, in one continent and then u get to the next one and its a thunder storm, (maybe its my new PC making this look class i dont know) I have been addicted to Medal of Honor : Allied Assualt for the last year, playing the same old maps over and over, and there is hundreds of others doing the same the past year, and im sure alot will appear here, as well as members from all other first person shooter communities.
Who knows maybe there will be some sort of exspansion comes out at some stage, but like already stated people are messing around at the moment, I have been playing in a squad using voice comms from time to time which makes it extra better, but once the full game gets going, communities/clans/squads/teams get settled into there particular TEAM OF CHOICE, then the fun will begin, people will work hard to get there battle ranks up, and gain experience by doing different things, remember we are all still learn no matter how much u think or claim to know. And like Hamma says people will start to play the game for real, it wont be the case of base hoppin, when people get higher ranks and get all the bestest weapons and vechiles possible we will be able to sit around bases and defend bases, and deploy squads to head out to other bases to attack, it will be a more tactical battle when it all starts for REAL, as long as there isnt people go with the flow and dont get angry and TK, which i have seen already in the game.
Goodluck to all and cya on da Battlefield :)

FUN!
Sure, EQ may have more "content", but hell. You'd have to PAY ME $12.95/month to play that snore-fest. I played EQ, UO, SB, WWIIOL, Tale in the Desert, Meridian 59, etc. BORING!!! I don't have my accounts with them anymore. I tried them. I tried to even LIKE them.
