It's my first day but just from seeing all the LFS messages, it sure seems like 90% of people are med. assult.
Does heavy assult suck? Why is medium assult so much more popular?

I don't know if med assault is that much popular, but if it is, it's probably because all the heavy assault weapons are meant for close to medium range when the medium assault weapons can be used for mostly all ranges, but it really depends which empire ur on to say that. A lot of the action is outdoors, and my guess is a lot of players don't like being shot down while trying to get into close range of the enemy. Though when heavy assault troops do get into close range, especially in bases they wreak havoc on the medium assault troopers.

Well, Med Assault Weapons you can get from the start, you have 4 certs, you can put 2 into Med assault and with doing the training get at least one more cert, you have 3 to put into something else.
Med assault weapons offer a wide variety of guns, so its something you should at least have.
Heavy Assault or Heavy Anti Vehicle weapons are more specific.
I work with a combo, for close range battle i use the new and improved Pulsar. but most of the time I am with my Lancer, which i can use as a sniper rifle, as well as Anti V.
I would recommend to at least upgrade to Medium. that punisher is pretty good too.

Ok think about this and it explains itself:
Med Assault = 2 certs
Heavy Assault = 4 certs
Med assault is required to obtain Heavy assault, therefor making heavy assault effectively worth 6 certs. Everyone gets medium assault because it opens the doors to Sniping, Spec Assault, AV, and Heavy Assault. Therefor you will see ALOT of medium assaults and far fewer heavy assaults and so on, because it takes more certs. Heavy assault rocks, but its not as easy to get as Med assault so not alot of people have it.
Hope this explains it.

From what I have heard and seen it is good in certain tactical situations, but not good as main weapon. I am no grunt though, so I will let someone else answer for sure.

Like was mentioned, almost everyone gets med assault to start with (except infil hackers). It's the prereq for heavy assault, it's good for when you are a grounded pilot, it's good for when you are waiting for the timer on your max, etc. It's just an all around good cert to have.

Med assault is one of my first certs.

With Med. Assault, you turn from a pathetic, almost comically underpowered soldier to an actual threat on the field.
The reason is simple, med assault is a must for anybody who wants the other assaults. :)
I do find that heavy assault isn't worth it really, i prefer the special assault myself. :D

I like Heavy Assault myself. The Jackhammer is a decent up close weapon. Just ask all those stealthers who tried to sneak into my CC yesterday!

I always found average aka medium stuff to be better, heavy stuff is more expensive and weighs more, makes you mvoe slower, etc
I jsut prefere to be an all rounder and alot of people think that too.
