View Full Version : how to fly just using Keyboard
Can someone please answer this question.
How can you set up your controls, to beable to fly just using your keyboard?
Such that, you use wasd for strafing, forwards, and backwards. And using the arrow keys, for pitching up down and rolling.
Please, this will help me alot.

why no use of the mouse?
I have no idea how you would go about being able to fly well with just the keys???

Mouse > Keyboard
look, im sorry if i offended anyone that i suggested that i prefer keyboard over mouse in flying, but i do. bf1942 taught me to.
So if anyone can help me, please
Dont get me wrong i love the mouse, the mouse is my friends, i just hate to steer with a mouse. It could be just my technique of flying, but all the same, i prefer, to fly with a keyboard.

Why would anyone be offended?
I think a good way to use it is arrows for movement and numbers for pitch?

Hmm with the keyboard ... ? Well i am not in beta but played some simulator games and all i can say you is ... Good luck ;)
Well if noone knows, then it probably cant be done just yet.
Im going to go request for it, as it is vital to be inplemented into the game.
I think your best bet would be set pitch/yaw/roll on the num pad and forward/backward/strafing/altitude on the far side of the KB using the std WASD default or some other layout that suits you. Spreading your arms and hands out a bit might help alot. I hate trying to play with my hands crammed into a corner of a keyboard.
Since throttle control in PS is for the most part on/off in any serious dogfights, I think you can leave those in the defaults.
I personally dont envy having to play that way but I think it could be done to some extent. Its more or less how we used to play the old DOS based "flight sims" wayyyy back in my mainframe days. How effective it would be in PS remains to be seen.
Good luck
Thanks xuur, does that mean you are able to play using just the keyboard in planetside. If so could you please explain how you were able to achieve this.

well you can set any key for any action that the mouse does, just replace the axis with a key, but I do not see any reason you would ever want to, you are flying choppers, not fighter planes, and if anything I would use a joystick if not the mouse.....

I use a mouse (direction, firing), joystick throttle (so I don't have to hold down W) and keyboard (WSADing around in forests is better than full throttle...)
First off, MrVulcan can you please write down how you can change the pitch from mouse to keyboard.
And aztecwarrior, I know you have a joystick, i would be using a joystick, if i could buy one, and i dont want to just yet, so i need a solution to use my keyboard in flying.
