View Full Version : Using Sunderer as Artillery...

I've been experimenting at using a Sunderer as a mobile artillery piece. I'll use my command waypoints as a general target for the gunners to draw a bead on the target. Then with the help of a spotter we work to bring our fire to bear. My question is do some of the tanks like the Lightning and Vanguard work well in these roles? Can their turrets raise to high enough angles and have far enough ranges?

The sunder is a great vehicle.

Last night I saw a guy drive his Vanguard around to a good spot. Then he got out and manned the gun for a bit. Then he got back into the driver's seat to move. He kept doing that for a long time until some Reavers saw a stationary object and went to town on him.
It's a good idea IMO but you need to keep moving or you're just a tasty looking target. So if you man both the Sunderer's guns and have a driver to keep you moving, you might have success.

I agree with Jimbo, if you plan on doing that, ask friends or just other players to provide support, ideally I go told is Reavers or Mosquitos, land them near the tank, after someone comes for you take of and band, they got it in for themselves :D

Best bet would be to use the sunders transport as a positive. Load up with two AA MAX 2 guys with anti tank stuff and 4 for anti infantry purposes, the remaider can be like 1 mosqito, 1 reaver, and 2 stealthers on wraiths for spoters. Thats 10 guys or one squad, do this 3 times and u have an artillary platoon. Get them together in one area on top of a hill and you will have pretty good combat radius. Notice that noone is left on foot. If u wanted to make sure change 2 of the guys that are anti Inf role to having a buggy or both of em have bisiliks. Now the whole force is mobile. Changing the sunders to Tanks wouldnt work because now ur capasity to carry the self defensive force that will set up a perimiter around ur fire base wont beable to keep up.

One the squad I was thinking would be 3 guys in each Sun one driver 2 gunners. Then one Infiltrator with either a Mosquito to find hidden targets and spot from the air or Wraith to monitor ground zero. The gunners would have to be some mix of anti vehicle and the drivers would be Combat Engineers. Then with each Sun loaded with ACEs the engineers could set up a sizable minefield and/or spitfire cover.
