View Full Version : Cert Limit
You can only have like 20 of the 60 or so certs at once right? So once you have enough BEPs to get 20 certs, there's really no point in gathering BEPs? Cause if you want a different cert you have to "unlearn" one, and you get BEPs back(i think) so you can train it in something else after X time.
So... once you have 20 certs you've beat the game?

As you earn BEP's you earn Certification Points, with those you purchase certs. Once you get to 20 (battle rank 20 that is) you are uber. But theres no way you have beaten the game heheh, thats impossible
You can also have four characters per server.

good call
and it's not certs, its cert points (which you buy certs with)
some certs cost more than 1 point, so that doesn't necessarily mean 21 certs.

and then there's CEPs . . .

Those are completly seperate, I dont think they have any effect at all on certs
Ok so once you're battle rank 20 there is no point in getting certification points then.

It's a good thing planetside isn't going to be released until febuary or later because this cert system is onfusing as hell and i'ts going to take that whole time to figure it out. O
(Or become not lazy ad just read the damn info myself)
P.S. I love that smiley
Rank 20 aint really a rank. It is just fancy filler for your cert point cap. After you hit 20, you just go on fighting as normal :) Just with more options than the newbie that just started out.

Basically all you do as you gain rank is change color and once to spend all 21 of your cert points on lets say 14-15 certs you can either go on playing as an elite, make a new character or unlearn them and try to rearange your character.

Anyone have any idea how long (roughly) it's going to take to get those 20 points. (I know, I know, it all depends on how things go fighting etc.)
If you keep getting your ass kicked, are you going to gain any experiance at all? Do you loose anything when you die?
I started a thread on Death <a href=http://www.planetside-universe.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=774>here</a>.
Basically if you had any empire-specific weapons that weren't your own you'd lose them. Otherwise you can just spawn anything you have a cert for at a terminal.

I recall the devs (aka Smokey) saying esitmated time was 3months. Of course some will take longer and some will have it done in 2 weeks but that's just life. :)
Myself i was hoping full Certs would require a good 4-5 months for a casual gamer.

Well I personally hope that it will cost alot of BeP's for just any Cert. Because honest to say you will have those people who are saddly going to play all the time without actually attempting to have a life.
Now maybe in some twisted deminsion you get paid to play Video Games, but I seriously DOUBT that you get paid to play them 24/7 without going outside to breath.
When you get these type of people it won't take them long at all to get to the max cert. So they will run around proclaiming themselves champions and crap then they get cocky and start doing things there way and again ruining the game for others.
Now hopefully we really won't get to this point but most likely there will be many who are just like this. But don't get it twisted I plan on playing as much as humanly possible BUT that will be disposed in an appropiate manner with me Balancing school in Florida. Friends and Sex.... so it might drop my play time to a casual gamer rather than a hardcore PS'er.

I agree omega, i think the real difference from a newbie to a fully experienced vet is that instead of relying upon others for transport/heavy arms/scouting, you are the one being relied on.
As you gain experience i dont really see people changing all of the sudden and their ego's growing 10 fold, because if you've been cooperating with others for the whole time you've been advancing you wouldn't find any reason to change because its going to be most successful and fun way to play.

i believe the first few certs shuold be cheap, but as you go higher they should get more expensive(to a limit)...
so someone who just starts out can get medium armor, 1-2 weapon certs, (or 1-2 piloting certs), maybe allow 1-2 more and they'll be ok...
but I do agree someone shouldnt be able to obtain mass amounts of certs either...

The certs all cost a different amount of points, some 2, some 3 - and it will probably change before closed beta :p

how 'hard' is it to get 2-3 cert points? it require several BEP levels? or do you get like 2 points/level? just curious how difficult it will be to get that 'next' cert on your list after spending starting certs..
again i know you cant give solid answers on numbers.. just want a general idea for difficulty
Hamma

Yea I dont have enough solid info to comment on exact numbers.
I would assume after x amount of BEP's you advance to the next level in battle rank. With that battle rank comes x number of cert points.

theres 20 Battle rank levels aye? and 5 command levels?
think there'll be 2-3 points(~1 cert) per battle rank level?

Omega: There's always people like that in MMOG's tho. I know guys who were playing DAOC who had 30 days of play time in the first 45 days the damned game was out. I was thinking about crafting for the guild I was with, and was informed that our current crafters were putting in 14-17 hours a day, and I had to match that.
Give me a break.

Man, don't hope for certs costing more BEP. The quicker we all get to BR 20 the quicker we are on even footing. Let the 24/7 gamers do their thing and don't worry about it, you'll get there too, then you can layeth the smack down upon them. Just don't wish for anything that gives em even more of an advatage! This game will be nice because you will have to actually have some skill to do well. Unlike EverCrack, DAoC, and whatever other RPG games are out there.

Why should we care how long it takes anyone else to get maxed on certs? Certs don't make you a badass; Skill, twitch reflex, and a good connection/hardware do. That day-one newb with his shotgun can still blow the back of your helmet off. Anyone who goes around proclaiming how uber they are instead of fighting isn't really that dangerous, and being rank 20 isn't going to save them when the shrapnel flies.
Even if you could rank up real quick, how can you ruin it for anyone else? It doesn't restrict anyone else's capabilities or equipment selection. You can't talk shit to your enemies because there is no inter-faction chat. You can't grief kill because repeatedly slaughtering the other guy is the core gameplay mechanic. How can the no-lifers be a problem?

Well by having more certs than someone does give you an advantage depending on what certs you have applied. If you're a rank 20 you also have all 3 implants. How often in ranks do you get implants btw? Pure skill isn't going to be the only thing you need in this game. I imagine that you will have to depend quite a bit on the abilities you gain from your certs.

Certs give you options.
Implants give you advantages.

More options than someone else = advantage.
Well yes and no, since you're supply of ammo and weapons is limited even if you have more certs you aren't really more powerful than your enemy.(out in the field, if near your base well than that's a different story)

I definately agree that 'Certs' don't make the soilder. Skill and the ability to work with others well make the soilder. I'm just worried about the hot-heads that will get those max certs in no time. That's what gets me, BUT like everyone else and myself has said.
It will not ruin the game for me. I'm going to enjoy this game alot. I'm so hyped about it it's not even funny. Sad to say my play hours will be limited. School starts for me soon and I'm going to be on 40+ Clock hours. So my play time will come on the weekends or when I'm slacking.
Justin
Yeah but like i said even with max certs it doesn'T mean he can use them all at once. He can still only use a few every time due to limited inventory room.

Although that person does have more options as to what to use over a new player.

The more pronounced advantage in this situation will be that the hard core no-lifers will be a lot more familiar with the ins and outs of the game than a newb, meaning that even with the same certs and equipment, the advantage lies with the person who is more dedicated to the game.
I'm not saying that more certs don't give advantage, just that I don't think it will be a big deal at all.
