View Full Version : Colored Chat

I have two questions:
Is it possible to change the color of outfit chat? I often miss messages in the squad spam.
Yesterday I was playing with one of the top commanders on Emerald TR, and he had managed to turn his chat bright yellow. This was much easier to read, and more pleasant than the ALL CAPS THAT SOME LEADERS USE, which always seems like shouting to me, no matter how much I play. What is the trick to turning your squad chat yellow?

I want to know this too, if it matters any....

no clue about the yellow, but you can always TK the caps morons. no grief for killing a squadmate.

One night we found out we didn't get grief for attacking each other... bad night.

I think that is a GM only capability or something, cuz I was playing with Sitdog (He's a dev, check teh credits) and he was talking all blue and red and stuff, it was cool, and he spawned a wraith right infront of me and stuff, that was the best squad I had ever been in, he could PWN all of BOHICA

No, normal players can change color. At least the used to. I remember seeing in a patch note a long time ago it being removed. But that may have only been on broadcast. I never did find out how you can do it though.
Since wer're on the subject of chat.....
What are all the commands for the text buffer? Or where can I find them. There's no info in the PS manual.
Like /t....etc...?

There is no in game method to change it right now. There used to be a bug that would let you change text color. But it was fixed - I agree you should be able to customise colors.

I take it nobody knows the answer to either of the two questions yet. Keep looking :-)
The leader with the yellow squad chat was not a developer, just an exclusive beta tester. I don't want to use names in case the answer is a modification of one of the planetside files, don't want to land anyone in hot water.
However, I lead about 80% of the time I play, and would find yellow squad chat to be extremely useful. Too often a squad leader can state an objective, be asked a question about the objective, only to have two players ask about the plan only seconds later. Not all, but some of this could be helped with bright yellow chat for the squad leader, and a different color for outfit spam.
While we are on the subject, the various squad and personal stats bars take up way too much room on the screen. Everyone could make much bigger chat boxes if the personal stats were separated into smaller windows that could be stashed around the edges of the screen.

I was hoping they would change squad and outfit colors already. I couldn't imagine they would leave it as is.

On the subject of text and colors, has anyone else noticed the bug of colors changing while new text scrolls the old up. Noteably when 2 lines of text are typed?:
IE A squad member is chit chatting, and then someone does a 2 line broadcast, the second line will be green instead of the broadcast blue. Happens with other text situations like squad chat going blue and such. Is this a bug or a video card error? Im using a TI4200 128 MB.

It still is possible, i've seen it. I think it's in Hex format.

it is, I just found that out, someone with the name Yeti4U was talking in black and white and stuff in broadcast, I asked him how, and he said Hex code, but I don't know hex, :(
