1)Do you remain invisible when you come close to an enemy (coz the mobile-spawn-station-thingy doesnt)
2)How limited will your weapon slots be? (I only read that you cant have a rifle)
Oh yeah im not a NOOB i just dont know wich empire to join: Vanu (stealthy) or terran (grunty :) )

AFAIK you remain completely invisible when u remain still, but as you move, and the faster you move, u become a blur that is more and more visible, only those ppl with the upgrades will see you.

i think stealth suits will be more annoying then snipers, they should nerf the stealth suit wearers ability to fire any weapons without be decloaked for 60 seconds! it's only fair.. otherwise they get to fire and we can see where from... *mimics the complains of everyone against snipers, bringing up the exact same reason they want snipers screwed over*
now on the serious side.. i think they wil be annoying, but it's part of the game, I think stealth suits shuold be feared, as should snipers, but neither force will be 'easily' able to take out anyone solo(even 1v1, due to peoples complaints about snipers).. so i think their usefulness beound scouting will be limited

Yeah Hatt, i knew that allready, but my question is: When you stand 3 feet from a guy, do you become visible?
DiosT

it probably distorts the surroundings(like predator movies), so if the guy notices the area is lookign all screwy he'd probably shoot for ya

I think that the cloak suits will bring something different to the table for PS. Cloak Suits will be just as important as any other armor suit. For people like hackers or pilots or medics.
It would help more to the person that had tooken major experince in one of those departments and didn't have much general battle experience.
Also it's not like someone cloaked can use a riffle of any kind. They are limited to one handgun and their standard knife. So it's not like you'll be taking lancer fire from out of no where.

i know omega =p I was just mimicing peoples complains about snipers.. that ebcause you cant see them they shouldnt be able to hurt someone, even if it's the most powerful infantry-based weapon in the game, heh

Stealth suits have limited firepower, which means it'll actually take a lot of skill to kill someone while wearing one. Stealth suits are absolutely nothing like being one-shot by someone you didn't even see and couldn't even react to.
That aside, Stealth suits will be fun to fight. They won't have a lot of firepower, so you're going to need to use your head when you're up against them. They'll get their kills through intelligence, so it'll be more of a match of wits than anything.

With limited firepower, Stealth suit wearers are going to have to emply stealth to stay alive. If people notice their comrades suddenly dying around them, they are going to spray the area with lead. Sneakyness and a low profile will be the name of the game if they wish to be successful and effective.

Exactly, the stealth suits will not be used for combat, because they have their combat abilities gimped(1 pistol, 1 knife only), and any fool with a ac can just spray the room and cut down the stealther quickly. The suits will be used for A) hacking and B) combat support, medics and engineers

I figure most Medics/Engineers will use Agile armor. But that's just me. :p

Depends, devs said if you stand still you could be totally invisible and be only 1foot away from the enemies face. If you move well then he will see the blur.
Also the VS are more mobilty than stealth, every empire will have stealth. TR are indeed grunts that spew ammo all over the place and NC are grunts that just blast everything and ask questions never. :)
As for my opinion of the stealth suit? I think it will be great, i hope with the knife implant you can take down a light armor in 1 hit or 2. It would add a lot of spice to the class, he could actually do something in an enemy base other than hack it. :)

I think stealth suits will be just about as successful as the cloak pack in T2.
Great against the n00bs, but dead meat against anyone good.
Well i would like to see a T2 kinda thing.
The shocklance was great but still hard to use on most people so not many tried it but some peeps were amazing with it. I don't wanna see the stealth 0wn everything in PS but it would be cool if he can actually defend himself against light armors. :)

i think that you should always be able to see stealth suits, but they will be a slight blur, even when standing still, you would really see them unless you were looking carefully
They only have a pistol and knife and you won't to make them easier to see too???

I was thinking the same thing to what some of you said in your post that the stealth suits will help out those types that are Engineers, Medics, and hackers.
I mean it will take ALOT of skill to manage to be in combat with your stealth suit. Pistol and knife. I'm not even sure how much the knives will be used yet at all, but we'll see I guess.
People will most likely have to basically roll up on an enemy from behind and get there kill execution style. Of course then there's also the scenerio where the hacker for instance is moving into the enemy base to do his thing, but thers gaurd that stands in his way. So thanks to his handy handgun and or knife he will be able to eliminate the enemy.
To try and be an all out assaulter with your handgun and stealth suit would prob be suicidal.
This will surely be interesting to see how people will handel the stealth suit and what different types of tactics they will use with them.

Will Combant Engineer's with steal suits be able to carry the ACE? if so how many?
I mean it would be awesome to be an engineer with cloak, just sneak into the base, plant a remote mine over the Vehicle spawn point, wait for the enemy pilot/driver to get in and BLAM!!!!!!!!! one crispy crunchity corpse :) or set up a turret to annoy the enemy and distract them so a squad can move in and take over, or give a hacker enough time to get into the console room.
Duritz
2002-12-19, 07:46 PM
I dunno about the remote mines, but i know the turrets can only be deployed in your own SOI.
However, I want to know how effective stealth medics will be because I doubt they can carry more than the medical applicator and a knife.
The engineers and the hackers will be ok because the hackers just have to sneak by and the engineers can steal vehicles.

I thought hackers could steal vehicles.

You likely uncloak when using items or firing weapons. So using devices while in a Stealth suit would be risky. That's only a guess though, but it does make sense.

Yes, hackers can and are the most effective at stealing vehicles. If you are not a hacker but you have an REK then you can steal vehicles but it will take longer.
Another question on stealth suits, will I be a little visible when standing still and hacking a base or will I be completely invisible like when I'm normally just standing still?

i believe that the infaltrator suit will be essential to any organized outfit. The infaltrators have two areas where their invisble suits allow them to excel - A. Scouting, and B. Infaltrating.
Imagine this - your on the defense in base being attacked by a well know outfit and commanders. Your commander believs the best way to get rid of the enemy is to sally and bring the fight to him. You, in your infaltrator suit, are dispactched 20 minutes before the sally is planned to go 'take care' of the commander. moving at minimal speed to not attrck attention, you sneak and scout around until you've found where the enemy commander has set up his 'command post' - then you sneak some more, and plant yourself in a corner out of the way. Come the signal from Your commander, out comes your knife and in two slashes, down goes their commander... just at the moment when he is needed most!
Now obviously - this implies lots of things which are in all probablity not true - i.e. will the attcking commander have to be int he open, or can he just hangout in a wehicle or in a MAX armor rather than a light one. No clue, that will become apperent only when the game is out (or the dev's tell us ;> ).
My quesion about all this .. when an infaltrator suit attacks, does it loose its cloaking?

Well forgive me if it's been said, but:
When someone in a stealth suit fires or moves, they become less hidden. So if you want to be undetected, you have to stop and not fire. Which could be bad if you're caught in the open....

Im sure many uses of the stealth suit will be discovered.
I cant wait to see what people do with it. :D

I think stealth suits could be dangerous, but everrntually people will be looking out for them and they will probably end up being like spies in TFC, where some people spent the whole game just spy hunting.

there are those that hate the idea of the stealth suit. well look at this idea. if your not sure a cloaked enemy is inside your facility, get a combat engineer to set up a motion senser alarm in the console room. Or get an audio amplifier implant so you can hear more footsteps, go and check them out and if you dont see a comrad then you can spray the area with your weapon. Or there is the famous darklight implant with shortens your normal vision to be able to see cloaked targets. well you dont need to always activate this, just every once in a while turn it on, go into the facility and check all the rooms. Plus, every unit makes sounds when they walk, unless they have the implant that reduces the amount of noise when you walk. Everything will have its weakness, you just need to find them.

Dunno... if it's like the AMS that cloaks than probably not. If they're in your squad do you see their name/health indicator over them?

I think the stealth will be much more successful than the T2 cloak pack. First of all the cloak pack drained your energy pretty fast so if you attempted to say fly or something it would uncloak. That and you really weren't completely/mostly invisible for very long. Going to be quite a bit harder to spot stealthers in this game.
Tolvy

All you need to take care of a cloaker is some mines :)
With the implant, cloakers should be no problem.
I hope that you can kill someone in one or two hits with the knife. In Halo multiplayer, you can hit someone in the back and they would die in one hit. I hope it is like this in PS.
Sjekso
2002-12-20, 07:03 PM
Tolvy, im sorry to say that one hit kills with a knife WONT kill your target enemy for there will be different types of armor. Although if your attacking someone with "light armor" or standard issue armor then it should only take a few hits. Although, knifes will probably be abandoned by most users because they need room for ammo and their weapons and equipment. those who use the knifes will probably be using the infiltration suit. that and medics and engineers.

No.. i ONLY! asked if it is possible for a one hit kill..
Well i hope 1 hit kills for light armors are possible but only if from behind and in the head. The knife shouldn't be amazingly powerful but if you use the 2nd attack (more powerful and probably slower) it should do a good amount of damage.
Otherwise the knife is useless.

Well I thought about stealth-hacker and turrets. Can just anybody hop into a turret or only the faction who owns it ? Can you hop into a turret when the base is being hacked ? Can you hack a turret to take control over it ?
Well wouldent it be cool if a stealth could hop into a turret and wreak some havok for a few secs and then move on to another turret... It would make the enemy completly paranoid having their own turrets shooting them ;) .

Yeah i'm positive you can hack turrets. But that's kinda dangerous since 1-you're out in the open for anybody near the base to see you and 2-as soon as you hop in they will know something ain't right but of course by then you'll do a good deal of damage. :)
