May 14th - Aircraft, Vehicles, and More!
PlanetSide will soon be released, but the development team isn't resting. Check out what's on the horizon for updates and additions to the game!
Here's a peek at what you can expect in the near future for PlanetSide:
New aircraft :
Liberator - a brand new common pool bomber
Lodestar -- a vehicle transport aircraft
New vehicle:
Skyguard -- an anti-aircraft buggy
Platoons: Combine up to three squads to facilitate chat, share XP and organize and command large-scale missions with up to 30 people .
Sanctuary Strikes: Strike at the heart of your enemy. By achieving a "lock" on the three continents connected to an enemy sanctuary, launch attacks via the opened warpgates.
Quarterly Outfit Competitions: Conduct special events featuring structured competitions between outfits. Games like "Capture the Flag" and others can be played.
PlanetSide is a persistent world, constantly changing. Updates like this are made on an ongoing basis, so stay up-to-date with what's to come in regular update reports right here.

Liberrator? was that to honor WW2 Liberator bombers. but what about the sanc strikes probably have to stay around the edges too only kill people not capture.:(
I think the Sanc Strike is a GOOD add, it gives your team something to drive for... asskicking at its finest, they'll probably be hella rare though (lets hope).

Hopefully they will find a happy balance between the empires. NC still gets OWNED hardcore. :(

I knew the sanc strike would come, why else would there be gun towers at each sanc warpgate?
Lodestar....omfg. Maybe we could carry tanks? APC's? God imagine a bridge battle and then seeing 4 vanguards fly overhead and drop down behind you. I think i just wet myself.
Bomber better not turn into a spam fest.

any 1 hear about water vehicles i think there was a post somewhere that said it is going to come so some bases will be moved to water inlits and such but i'm not sure sounds cool:hitit:

My guess is this "vehicle" transport can move heavy tanks. And perhaps AMS's
I bet its some kind of clamp you hover over and pick up the vehicle.. so the vehicle is vurnerable on your underside.
Just speculation of course, but it sounds cool.

the devs read my mind. i was thinking about upcoming vehicles all of last night and this morning. basically i predicted medium air transports (but more of a 3 to 4 man infantry transport), a serious AA vehicle, and some electronic warfare (mobile radar and radar jammers). and voila.
but...
i don't see why the need for bombers when reavers already fit that role and some more. the reaver rockets has high RoF, mediocure/decent accuracy, and good direct/splash damage. they already devestate infantries and vehicles alike. how much better can the bombers devestate everything else on the ground?
i predict the addition of bombers will call for even more efficient AA on top of the skyguard. something like an empire specific AA tank. quite obviously actually, seeing how most vehicle types follow this trend: harasser->assault buggy, lightning->assault tank, so skyguard will evolve into heavy AA.

But what happens when a sanc gets invaded? Does the whole empire get destroyed? They can't temporarily stop an outfit because players pay for the game, so restricting time is a bad thing to do. Maybe they just get shamed around the world and the sanc resets

It won't be all of NC vs just the enemy getting hit by the sanctuary strike. It's also NC vs the other side as well. Why?
Because you have to hold the lock on all 3 continents. It's not locked of VS owns one base on it and it's also not locked if TR shows up and takes a base. And by the sounds of it to me it's probably going to require ONE side to hold all 3 continents. Not 2 held by NC and one by TR.
That would make it extremely rare. Probably only something TR will pull off. :D

The bomber surprised me, since they seemed dead set against any kind of indirect fire or mass area weapon. I'll wait to see how it plays out, but I am worried about griefers and idiots. Also, worried that it will further cut down on the already lacking outdoors fights.
Having the AA Buggy to balance it is a nice touch.
The sanc strike isn't that surprising, as they've hinted at it. It's good as it's a holy grail goal to drive for, but seems to be about as likely to happen - I can't imagine a side getting all three sanc warp gates locked.
Platoons are what I'm looking forward to the most. More tools to organize > more tools to kill with.
Outfit competitions sound like they have potential to be fun - hope they mix it up so that one outfit just doesn't dominate.

I just hope the bombers are not anywhere near as powerful as the T2 bombers (ie instant death for any but the Jugs on the very edge of the blast radius with shield packs on). The only thing that kept v-pad games playable was a limit of one ( two in some mods) bomber per side at any time; and remember it was at least theoretically possible to quickly get away from an area with your jetpack if you heard the whistle of falling bombs. Imagine a squad of 10 bombers flying over a battle along the flight ceiling. Most people are probably going to give up and log off after repeatedly dying immediately when they step outside.

If they make the bombers offensively powerful, make them equally defensively weak. Make them real slow, require air escort, or always show up on radar. Have them not be able to hover but have a minimum speed they have to fly at. They way they can't just hover and drop a ton of ordinance but have to do actual bombing runs. They only place they can stop is at a dropship base which has a way of stopping them.

I think they should be very powerful, but also have very limited bomb capacity. The more dominant air power becomes, the more feasible it becomes that people will include anti-air in their plans.

The shrike was in the air faster, and at that point the bombers life got hard. Its just on pubs where the best defense was a few guys crowded with launchers around the pad that bombing was easy. Same would prolly go for Liberator vs Skeeto.
