Hey everyone.

I just heard about Planetside a few days ago, looked into it, and the game looks sweet.

I come from EQ, a short run with DAoC, and currently Shadowbane. Quit EQ because hours of slaying the same mobs over and over got really, really boring. A flood of whining Hibernian carebears drove me out of DAoC, and Shadowbane's currently not that bad.

My biggest issue with the MMO world is the horrid boredom of the leveling grind - which is why I have progressively moved towards more PvP oriented games. I still can't stand any class other than the thief in SB, just because a life of pressing autoattack or casting the same spell over and over again is really quite intolerable. At least thieves have some "extracurricular activities" =)

On another note, I'm a huge fan of Battlefield 1942, been playing it for almost a year now. As opposed to the skillless combat of MMORPGs, FPS combat is actually fun, at least IMO.

So a few questions.

It seems like PS offers a blend of actually having fun in the game and the depth of an MMO. Is this depth really there? Does it enhance the gaming experience?

From what I'm gathering, it doesn't seem like the early levels are as lame and impotent as they are in most MMOs - am I right that you can get in and actually be a force in combat and have fun and stand up for yourself within the first few hours?

And the overall question, based on both my experience and perhaps that of any of you who have come over from one of the other MMORPGs - should I come play Planetside?

Thanks for your help all.

Honestly, PS will not offer you the depth of the typical MMOs. What it does offer is lots of bf1942 type action but on a much larger scale.

The biggest difference between PS and DaoC (the only one I played regularly) is that you don't need to level to be effective or have fun. In DaoC you can't even get into PvP without being like level 20. In PS, you can be level 3 just by training in the vr center. That is enough to give you a few weapons or a good vehicle.

I should say that I am not a big fan of traditional MMO rpg type games. I just don't have the time to devote to them and to me killing computer controlled mobs is boring. I am a big fan of PS because it is easy to get into and lots of fun.

Having played Shadowbane both in early beta, and upon release my only advice to you is to play something, anything different. If thier server stability and crashing issues arn't enough to scare you off trust me, you will soon learn that there is zero to do in the game and getting from place to place is crap unless you two box with a summoner.

PS is a lot of fun, if you enjoyed BF1942 then you will absolutely love PS. Oh yeah, and the servers stay up for over an hour.

!!!

A game whose servers don't crash every hour?

Where you can actually log in?

Without having your characters rolled back to level 3?

And go places?
